Devon drove down the rode, the car's engine purring as he accelerated. He loved this car. So far it was the best he'd had.
"As CEO I supervise profit, organize the payroll, make sure we have enough investors. Several things to make sure the business runs smoothly and efficiently." he explained. That made it sound simple, but sometimes it was a pain. It made him glad he had a great partner with even better business sense and a exceptionally talented secretary. Even if he didn't care for said secretary.
"I'm 22." he said, remembering her first question.

Lark blinked at him in shock for where she sat in her set next to him her head barely coming up past the line of the window she couldn't believe it he was only two years older than he and already he was a CEO of a company. "Your kidding me right I mean your only two years older than me I'm 19 and I'm not even close to a job let alone a career like that." she stated in shock if that was true then Devon was on top of the world after all he was a werewolf and king on top of that and to top it all off he was a CEO of a billion dollar company compared to that she was nothing she didn't have a part time job and it wasn't from lack of looking either and worse than that she wasn't even finished with collage and even worse she didn't even know what she wanted to do with her life nothing seemed to fit with her.

Devon glance at her through the review mirror. She had that expression on her face. That slightly desolate one that she had the last few times she asked why he would want someone like her. He hoped to alleviate that by perhaps explaining a little more.
"It all has to do with birth I'm afraid. I didn't come from nothing. My position is inherited. Of course my father had me training in every job in the company since I was sixteen. I only been at this position for three years and I still largely depend on my partner Vince.
Though I admit I've been CEO longer than King. I won't even have been that for a few years had my father not decided I was ready." he pointed out.
"What are you going for in college?" he asked to change the subject. If he could he would gladly help her with anything she needed.

Fey of Silver Light

Sadly his explanation or even the change of subject did not alleviate her desolation in fact it made her feel a hundred times worse and it showed by the way she cringed further into her self and the new crushed expression on her face she was ashamed to tel him even if he was born into it he still had it all money a good job even status it wasn't as if those things were important to her it didn't change how she saw Devon not by much really he was a good guy and she didn't think she was good enough for him even if it didn't matter it just drove the point home further for her. The sad fact was He knew what he was going to do with his life while she on the other hand didn't she had taken all kinds of courses in her community collage, because she couldn't afford to go to the university outside of town, nothing seemed to fit with her it wasn't because she was picky or anything she just didn't have the skills for what her mother had tried to force her to do she just couldn't make the cut and that added more tension to the already tense relationship she had with her mother it had started after her farther's dead a few years ago Lark thought her mother was blaming her or herself not that it mattered her mother wanted a job that paid good and would give her a leg up in the world but Lark didn't want that
Lark wanted something more but what she didn't know so she could answer Devon's question and that filled her with shame. "Nothing." she said softly

Devon looked back at her. She expression had grown worse. Just seeing that look gave him a sick feeling in his stomach. There must be something he could say. It couldn't be a lie. He didn't like lying. The silence dragged on while he thought about it.
"You know. I kind of envy you." he finally said. And it was the truth. "You have the choice to do whatever you want. My path has been pretty much set since birth. Not that I didn't have a choice, but it was a path laid out for me."
He lapsed into silence again. After a few moment he took a different route then he planned. "I think we should go somewhere you might like." he said vaguely. He didn't know how to erase the shame from her face. He didn't understand were this was coming from, but he would do his best to make her happy.

Lark looked up and him and sighed defeated. "Thanks for that but I have nothing for you to be envious of I can't even make up my mind about what I want to study because I really to stupid to do something amazing like be a doctor or a lawyer in fact I don't see your mom holding a whip over you either be glad you know what your doing with you life me on the other hand i'm stuck in a raft that's sinking fast

Devon didn't like that statement at all. In fact it made him angry.
"You are not stupid." he scolded more sharply than he meant to. He took a deep breath to help calm himself. When he thought he could speak reasonably he continued.
"If you wanted to, you could be anything. Not everyone can be a doctor or a lawyer. Or a politician. Or whatever else you can think of that make an obscene amount of money. But the important thing is finding something you can be happy with. Screw what other people think." He glared out the window. He didn't feel like he convinced her, but he would in time. He didn't like how much she seemed to... almost hate herself.

Lark jumped when he yelled she didn't expect that it surprised because why was he angry it wasn't him she was talking about she looked at him in surprised but she sighed heavily as he started to speak more calmly now after he finished she laughed but it wasn't a happy laugh it was a sad one. "Easy for you to say it's not your mother trying to live her dreams through you she doesn't blame you for the death of the man that was your father and that's the whole sad point Devon I can't find something that makes me happy because I'm not good at anything." She said sadly

Devon grumbled at her answer. He would like to knock her mother a few blocks. Even if it was impolite to think such things about his girlfriend's mother. He would try to remember to introduce her to his own mother.
"Well. I disagree entirely." he stated. he pulled up into the place he'd chosen. "Because I know one thing you are exceptional at. No matter what you say."
He got out of the car and walked around to open the door for her. The place they were at was an art museum. One of the largest ones in the area with the heavy security to show that it held a few original masterpieces.
"I thought you might like to look around. If you don't, then feel free to pick something else." he said with a gentle smile. If she had know him for a long time, she might have been surprised. She was the only one he'd ever show such an expression to.

Lark took Devon's hand and looked up at the building in awe her sadness forgotten she couldn't believe where she was it was almost like something out of a dream she had always wanted to got here but it was only open to rich people or people of status because it was so expensive not many people for her side of town even come to this side of the city. "Oh Devon it's lovely I would like very much to go in are we really going in?" she asked as the two of them walked to the door.

"Of course."
Devon place her hand on his arm as he escorted her in, paying the admission quickly. He was pleased with her reaction. It was a relief to see excitement on her face, rather than sadness. Depression didn't suit her.
He lead her slowly through the place, though he let her pick the path they took, whether it was through painting or sculptures. "I don't come here often, but I can appreciate the arts now and then. Which are your favorites?" he asked softly.

"I love the paintings but some of the sculptures are beautify to but the paintings have more of a story behind it than a sculpture in most cases in my opinion
what about you? Oh look at that." Lark said in excitement forgetting her self for a moment and ran towards a wall of paints that were all new she stopped at one that showed a dark starless night in a forest the trees were bare so the scene was taking place in late Autumn but what had really caught Lark's eye was the white wolf that was at the forefront of the whole painting it was coming out of the shadows teeth bared and eyes a glowing yellow but what was strange about the wolf wasn't it's size even though it was a fairly large wolf it was the fact that the wolf had tribal markings on it's head and around the eyes and it had an amulet around his neck and on it's legs were Aztec looking braces. Lark was reading the plat under the painting with a kind of wonder when Devon walked up behind her. "The White Wolf Painted By Blake Blackthorn, Based on a old explores story time of origin unknown. 'While exploring a unknown forest an old traveler hear the howls of strange creatures he had mistaken for lost dogs for some of the dogs in a near by village had went missing while stock animals pop up dead ripped apart by an unknown creature the town called a wolf that was often whisper to be a demon dog that haunted the mountain forests at night and anyone that saw it was never heard from again, The traveler was weary and tired and moved to find a protected area away from the howling or so he had thought when the travel was found the next morning wandering at the edges of the village with his eyes taken out in a gruesome manner the traveler was yelling hysterically about a white demon dog that had strange markings and a amulet he reported that the creature was twice the size of a grown man and was stronger and faster than any creature had the right to be soon after he was found the traveler was found dead in the infirm with his throat ripped out and bloody paw prints everywhere and the eerie sound of howling out side the village gates. the day after the tribe moved to a different mountain and where never heard from again.' Devon looked at the picture and shook his head. He was familiar with the story, though the story he grew up with was more detailed.
"I'm surprised they put the majority of the story. A gruesome time in our history." he muttered as he looked at it. Seeing her curious gaze he whispered explanation in her ear.
"This is mostly truth. The Amulet is still kept but no longer used. It was kept as an heirloom mostly, otherwise it would fall apart. Tribal markings are too conspicuous nowadays. It's only use occasionally. The braces must be the artists touch. That would be too uncomfortable on the paws to run it. Or if we did, they are lost now."
He looked at the picture and shook his head. The wolf was similar in shape to himself, but there was something darker about him. He might have been a great, great grandfather or something, but they hardly kept track of lineage.
"We've mellowed out over the years, but it's a good reminder of our darker side." he stated solemnly.

Lark spun around in Devon's arms and hugged him tightly burying her face in his sweater she didn't like it when he talked about his darker side to her it didn't exist. "Devon I don't see you as that wolf I see you something good and beautiful i don't believe you could ever be that monstrous and that's why I love you? But do you still have it that instinct to kill humans to be a monster does your wolf have the desire to hurt me am I in danger from it and what's the amulet for anyway what does it do?"

Devon looked around, glad there seemed to be few people in this area. He kept his voice low so not to be overheard.
"We don't have an instinct to kill humans. But there is an instinct to kill. Not a murdering rage, but to hunt, to run down our prey. It's the wolf's instincts. He wouldn't hurt you anymore than I would. Which is not at all." he said, wrapping his arms around her gently. "You've never been in danger from me."
He looked at the picture thoughtfully before he asked the last question.
"In our histories it was a sign of the leader. The Alpha King. It said that it had it's own magic. I don't know if that's true. No one has used it for centuries."
