"We can go on a drive sometime," Luca invited, smiling at Lori. "I heard there's a lake somewhere. I'm not much on swimming, but we could certainly barbecue or something."
He stepped out and took Lori's hand. "Want to walk with me?"

"Sure, that'd be great." Driver or passenger, he didn't care. Why all of a sudden was Luca acting like an actual boyfriend rather than their usual hang-out-and-read? Had it been because he'd been out on a mission? Strange. Agreeable, but strange. He happily took Luca's hand, even knowing they were liable to get stares and chuffs of disgust. Arizona wasn't necessarily the most inclusive of places.
"So how've you been the past little while? Aside from missing me terribly." He was grinning, teasing.

"I thought a lot," Luca admitted, returning Lori's smile. About Lori, about the books, about how he could impress the other elf. "Good, though. And you? Besides fighting goblins and the like?" he smirked, swinging their hands playfully.

"No goblins this time," Lori said, shaking his head softly, "No magical swords or viking helmets either." He allowed his hand to be swung. What harm could it do? "So. Tell me more about yourself. Where are you from and what brought you here?"

Luca considered the question. "A forest," he teased. "Ireland though, and as for what brought me here... I suppose agents did. I got a job as quickly as I could. The forest I lived in was being cut down for housing. Somehow I didn't get the memo." He paused, studying Lori. "Where are you from?"

Of course Lori knew the story. Luca hadn't been the only one displaced. It was different to hear to come from his mouth, though. Lori grimaced a little. Humanity. Feh.
"I'm from Ireland too, actually. Less forests, more flat plains and underground castles. My parents wanted to integrate and when the Bureau found out about us they set us up with a beacon and bit us adieu. I decided I really wanted to work for these people, so here I am." He smiled. "Favorite color? If you say 'green'..."

"I miss it," Luca said, after a moment. "It's a beautiful place." Underground castles? That sounded fascinating. "I didn't like the agents," he said. "Actually, I wanted nothing to do with you guys. You've changed my mind," he smiled at him.
"Nah. Blues," he said. "Aquamarine and whatever people call it now."

Lori nodded. He dealt with people who dealt with a lot of loss.
"Let me guess," he began, "Human males, middle-age, delivered notice and couldn't give a ******** less so long as you got out. I like to think we don't have too many of those any more." Of course there still were forcible removals, but they were rare. There were more delicate ways to do everything.
"Ooh, nice. I actually like green myself." He looked to Luca and paused, then tilted his head slightly. "Or grey, in the right context."

"Yeah," Luca agreed. "Know the type then? Really put me off humans for a bit. But I started working at the library, met a couple great ones." He smiled at Lori. "Good."
"Green is beautiful," the elf began. "I love nature," he looked around, taking in the park sights. "I loved the blues in the water when we flew here. I'd never seen so much." He paused at the comment, before flashing Lori a smile.

"Yeah. Most of the people at the Bureau are still human, but only most. They're good people. Unfortunately the stereotype isn't always wrong."
He smiled back at Luca and it was an unusually sweet expression. He leaned over and kissed Luca on the head, much to the distaste of an elderly couple walking by.

"I'd probably like them a lot better now," Luca mused. "I'm glad I made that call abut the books," he smiled, giving Lori's hand a squeeze. It could've just as equally been one of the other librarians to have made the call. He didn't think He would've met Lori then.
His smile grew at the kiss, pointedly ignoring the couple passing by.

Lori noticed them and just didn't care. In fact he came closer, putting his arm around Luca's waist. They had bonded a lot, but he hadn't been sure if he could do these things. Now he thought it was probably okay.
A squirrel bounced out from the trees and stopped to stand up and stare at the couple. Lori smiled at it. "Hello."

Luca was surprised by the arm around his waist, but made no protest. Instead he gave Lori another smile. "He likes you," he said, glancing at the squirrel. "I wish I had some walnuts to give to him, they love them." Or acorns. Or peanuts. They seemed happy with any sort of nut.

"In a pinch they'll eat anything," Lori said. He might have bent to pet the little creature but he was far more interested in the closeness between himself and Luca. Instead he gave the squirrel a wave and continued on.
"Do you have any of that 'beast affinity?' I know some forest elves that do."

"Hm?" Luca paused at the question. "Oh yeah, they like me." He smiled, looking around. "I had more of that when I was younger. I had this cat that'd follow me everywhere. And then there was that bear... Scared my mother quite a bit. But it wasn't as if I'd brought it home on purpose."
