Keegan hardly looked up as Mike raced past him, though he did smirk a bit at the mention of a race. "No thanks," he muttered, even though there was no way Mike would hear him now. It seemed like they were always racing somewhere when they were younger, and he was a little glad to see that some aspects of his childhood friend's personality remained in tact. He knew that if this had been any other day, he probably would have taken Mike up on the challenge as well, though today he felt it best to save his strength. He sighed deeply and tossed away the butt of his finished cigarette, only just slipping his hands back into the pockets of his coat when he felt something crash into him from behind. The redhead pivoted on a heel, raising an eyebrow when he saw Kasiya on the ground, pouting cutely. "The whole sidewalk?" he repeated, crossing his arms over his chest as he pretended to be annoyed. "Are you calling me fat?"
=====
Miharu couldn't quite make out Sam's words, but she nodded anyway, wondering how well her new friend was handling this flight. She seemed to be coping better than the night before, and she pointed to the red-roofed building that was the Pokemon Center. Aska shrieked loudly in reply and began a slow descent, not wanting to lose any more of her feathers to Sam's death-grip. The Pidgeot touched down a moment or so later, and she crouched low to the ground to allow the two girls to climb down safely. "Thanks for getting us here safely, Aska!" Miharu said, smoothing out the Pidgeot's ruffled feathers. The bird cooed and closed her eyes as Miharu recalled her into her PokeBall for a rest, even though she didn't really feel like she needed one just yet. Miharu turned to Sam and smiled. "Should we start walking now?" she asked.

Mike lifted himself from the ground, his arms dangling lifelessly at his sides. "I'd better...get ready." he said weakly. "Don't want to keep the gang-eh-heh-heh-waiting." The boy dragged himself across the floor, slowly collecting his things and putting them in his bag. "I need to learn to take better care of my things." he said to himself insincerely, adding a cute little chuckle. "After all, appearances are important."

Mike shut the door to the small side-room, glad to be rid of that prison. He took in a deep breath and forced it out. An uncomfortable object stabbing into his thigh reminded him of a recent gift that sat in his pocket. "Oh, right. I almost forgot." he said, taking out Blaine's old Pokedex. "I haven't even activated this yet." He flipped the device open and blew some dust away. It was a bit beaten up, but the burnt auburn color and the custom decal of the Volcano badge on the front and back were undeniably cool. "Might as well." he said as he pressed the dark green power button. With a low beep the Pokedex turned on, its blank screen demanding a trainer id or trainer card. "Fine, be pushy." he said, inputting his trainer identification number. After a brief loading screen, Mike was treated to a picture of himself. He was smiling. It was gross.

"Michael Kyoka," the monotone voice droned. "Age: 18. Hometown: Lavaridge Town, Hoenn. Number of badges collected: 9."

"Yeah." Mike said with a grin. "I'm awesom-"

"License currently suspended pending criminal charges." A big red 'X' appeared over his smiling picture, and the word SUSPENDED written from the bottom left to the top right. "Current trainer status: denied."

Mike stared at the screen. "S-suspended?" he asked the machine. "Sus-...Ah-ha! Aha! Ahahahaha!! AHAHAHAHAA!" he snapped the device shut. "That's too funny! That's TOO FUNNY! AHAHAHA!" He brought his hand to his forehead and squeezed, laughing even louder. "What do they think they can do? Track me? Stop me from accessing my Pokemon? Ha! Too bad I've got them stored in my own personal computer and not the League database." He laughed, punching the wall with his free hand. "You know..." His eyes lit up (which by now you must know is a terrible, terrible thing) as an idea came to mind. He made his way over to the PC in the lab. "Now that I'm no longer officially an official trainer of the Pokemon League," he input his password for his home computer network and opened the list of his Pokemon, depositing Camerae's ball and selecting Vesuvuis, Felsic and Xanthos. "I don't need to play by their rules." He hit submit, and soon three Pokeballs materialized in front of him. "Including their 6 Pokemon limit." He chuckled evilly as he put the extra two Pokemon in his pocket and opened the door to the Gym.

"Oh." he said in surprise. "Hello Mitsu."

------

Sasha continued her walk in silent annoyance, going into the side room and pulling on the secret book switch, not caring if anyone noticed. She all but stomped down the stone stairs. "What can I do to keep people by my side? so z'hey don't run off?" she asked herself. "Do I just need to get rid of z'hese top buttons? Just smush z'hem up z'here so everyone can see? What must I do?"

The disgruntled girl continued her ranting as she stormed down the cavern, pushing the door open with her foot so she didn't burn her hand. To her surprise, Mitsu was there. "How did...?" So was Kilik. And Mike. "I take ee't we're leaving soon?"

"Relics?" Maxie said, taking another long sip of his tea. "Of course I have heard of them. They're one of the more popular fables and get rich-quick-schemes." He studied Giovanni's reaction and chuckled softly. "I kid. I am well aware of their existence, but I couldn't be less concerned. To me, power isn't about some ancient tome or moldy painting, it is about Pokemon. Pure and simple power, that is what men strive for. As an influential man yourself I'm sure you know the pleasure of a good Pokemon, faithful and strong." He swirled the tea cup in his hand. "To me, that is the only way to go. The Relics are too risky." he paused. "Rest assured that would I have had any information on them I would gladly give it. You've been a great help at dealing with that pesky boy, so I'm willing to return the favor." The man smiled widely as he recalled the news reports from the other day, the stills of Mike's wide and crazed eyes, the pictures of all the smoldering wreckage. "I'll have a few scouts look around Mt. Pyre. The locals seem to think that rock is rife with history." Maxie's mind went back 4 years to the day a young Magma Admin stole the Red Orb atop Mt. Pyre. The same boy that he helped Giovanni break.

The same boy that he saw had broken out of the Saffron Asylum a few days back.

"But know this, Giovanni." Maxie said, putting his cup down, finally. "If I know Mike, and I'd like to think I do, he's cooking something in that cracked head of his. You'd do well to watch your back. We've pushed him to the edge, there's no telling what he'll do."

Sam had been startled when Aska began descending, but she quickly recovered. As they landed smoothly, Sam shakily got off the Pidgeot, her legs threatening to give way under her. She nodded a couple of times to herself as the Pidgeot was recalled before replying to Miharu.

"Yeah, sure, there's not much for us here, right? Let's just hope we run into some Trainers along the way," Sam said, her voice sounding stronger then she felt. She took a few hesitant steps before turning back to Miharu. "I have no idea where I am going. Why don't you lead the way?" she said, smiling sheepishly.

Kasiya looked up at Keegan and grinned. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying," she giggled, getting to her feet. "And yes, I'm just fine, thanks for asking," she added sarcastically. She stepped forward and linked her arm through his and began dragging him in the direction of the gym, having assumed he got her message. "I guess this thing's about to start up," she said with a sigh, but she was a little glad for it. The anticipation had been building up to an almost unbearable point, and now she just wanted this whole day to be over. They walked quickly back to the gym, and Kasiya realized that if they hadn't been shown Blaine's secret entrances she probably never would have found this place on her own.

She waved to her friends as she and her redheaded companion arrived on the scene, though she did a double take when she saw Mitsu already there. How did she... oh wait, Karri can teleport, she deducted, smiling a bit enviously at the thought. It must have been a very handy ability to have around and she idly wondered if she could train a Psychic-type Pokemon as they rejoined the group. "Hey guys," she said, looking at them all in turn, including Keegan, even though she'd just came in with him. "I guess it's just about go-time, then?"

Robbie seemed a little disappointed that his Zangoose had been knocked out, but he shrugged it off quickly as he chose a second Pokemon to send out against Flannery's massive Camerupt. The fiery-haired Gym Leader caught a glimpse of the white, black and yellow of an Ultra Ball as it sped through the air and burst open, and the creature that emerged also slammed the ground with its massive feet, outweighing its opponent by at least two hundred pounds or so. Flannery kept her expression calm and cool as the Hariyama slammed its giant hands together, looking quite eager to test his mettle against the Camerupt.

Okay, it's just a Hariyama, we can do this, Flannery thought, looking to her Camerupt. The Eruption Pokemon hadn't blinked, or even flinched, at the sight of his new opponent, but his little tail twitched, showing he was at least paying attention. "Focus Energy," she said, placing a hand on her curvy hip. Camerupt was more likely to perform better in battle if he was riled up. The large Pokemon snorted loudly and stamped his feet into the ground, leaving deep footprints in their wake. His entire body began to glow a fiery red, showing that his adrenalin had begun to flow. Across the battlefield, Robbie had also called for a Focus Energy, and now the Arm Thrust Pokemon was also engulfed in the same fiery aura. Both trainers then smiled, knowing this would be an incredible match.

"Mike," said a voice from behind him. It was Blaine. "A word, please."

"Sure thing." Mike said. "What is it?" Blaine reached into his pocket and pulled out a note and an Ultra Ball. Mike recognized it instantly. "Beacon? Wha-" he picked up the note instinctively, regretting the choice when it burned up in his hands. "Aw s**t!" he cursed. "Did you happen to look at it?"

"Yes. It was left on my desk. I'd assume by Sabrina. It said something to the effect that something very important came up and that she had to leave. The word 'sorry' was used about a half a dozen times." Blaine brushed off some ash that landed on his lab coat from the burnt note. "She regrets that she wouldn't be able to help you with your Ampharos, and that she hopes that the mission goes well."

Mike's eyes lit up in anger, and he handed the Ultra Ball to the Gym Leader as to not cook poor Beacon inside of it as he nearly exploded in anger. "That little! She has the nerve to jump inside my head, learn all my secrets, promise she will help me and then bail out on my right before we leave?!" He punched the door, ignoring the pain that shot up his arm. "Some friend! How many times have I helped her out of sticky situations? Both her and Sabrina know why I needed them on this, and they abandon me! Me and poor little Beacon! I'm sick of playing babysitter with her. Next time she needs help from me, she won't get it! SHE ISN'T WORTHY OF IT!" Mike's fists ignited as he screamed, and he picked up Nitro's Pokeball and smashed it to the ground. The Charizard materialized and was quickly mounted. Mike looked down onto the arena at his friends, anger in his eyes.

"Anyone else feel like leaving me in my time of greatest need?" His eyes went back and forth between his friends, skipping over Kasiya, who he knew would never abandon him. "Good. Let's go." He turned to Blaine. "Thanks for all your help, Blaine. Oh, and could you send Beacon to my mom, please? I think I'm still logged in. Then log out for me."

"Just use your head, Mike." said the old man. Mike could tell underneath his sunglasses there was fear and worry in his eyes. "Don't do anything you'd regret."

"Wouldn't dream of it." he replied. And with that, Nitro took off. "To Lavaridge!" Mike cried out to his friends, ordering Nitro to circle above so everyone could catch up.

------

Sasha understood Mike's anger towards Nina and Sabrina. She recalled when she first met them, they planned to go shopping and she soon found herself alone and forgotten. Sasha frowned at the memory. They were always in their own little world. Even Mike, who literally was in his own world due to his crippling insanity made a point to honor his promises. However, even if she could relate to his feelings, that didn't mean he didn't scare her with his intense reaction.

She cowered a bit when Mike, who looked very scary atop Nitro, asked if anyone else would leave. "N-non." she said timidly, going over and grappling onto Kasiya, who had come in a few moments earlier. She watched him intently as he flew off, realizing just then that she didn't have any Pokemon capable of flight yet. Roulette was capable of learning, but she didn't have the badge yet. "Uhm, Kass? Keegan?" she asked awkwardly. "Can I get a ride with one of you guys? I don't...have a strong flyer yet..."

"It was no problem! I am glad I was of some help to you, its always good to help people out." Robin gave him a big grin glad she had helped him out instead of made things worse, it was usually fifty fifty with her. "Your gunna challenge Roark to? Oh I know you can do it! Maybe I could cheer you on or something?" Robin wondered about that until she heard a beeping sound coming from her bag. "Eh? Whats that?" She muttered as she fished through her bag until she pulled out her phone. Her alarm was going off, the one she had set so that she would know when she had to head back to Jubilife. "Aw, I gotta head back or else I am going to get into a bunch of trouble." Robin really did seem to be very disappointed, she wanted to see her friend in a gym match, she also wanted to see her friend Roark as well.

"I wish I could stay." She said after a moment as she put her phone away. "Oh how about you call me when the match is over? I wanna know what happened!" Robin quickly grabbed a pen and Jakes hands. Robin quickly wrote her number down and gave him a big grin. "We should meet up again sometime. If you win I will buy you lunch or something all right?" With that said Robin grabbed Black*Star who was doing his best not to look to tired and headed back into the pokemon center. She really didn't want to leave her friend, she was having fun but she did have other things to do. "Are you ready to head back now Black*Star?" Robin asked as they walked through the pokemon center, she gave a friendly smile and wave to Nurse Joy as she walked passed her.

"I slept well enough," Mitsu lied, smiling at the boy. She gave his hand a light squeeze. The warmth and familiarity of the feeling was welcoming, though Mitsu still couldn't shake the apprehensiveness that coursed throughout her body. Again they were about to do something stupid, something dangerous, something that could potentially get them all killed. They flocked towards danger like Venomoths to a flame. It was like 'danger' and 'adventure' were synonymous to them.

However, their littler gather took a turn for the worst and Nina and Sabrina had decided to conveniently bail from the mission. Two other people were now gone, their numbers even smaller compared to the dozen of Magma members at their base.

Mike had a right to be angry, Mitsu reasoned, though it looked like he was taking his anger out on the rest of them, though to be fair they did leave him at Slateport. Of course this anger wasn't directed Kasiya. The girl was loyal. So ever loyal. Blindly loyal.

Mitsu shook her head. Mike could be angry as he wanted, there was no point in bottling it up. She should be telling herself that.

"Kilik, mind if I fly with you? I don't have any Pokemon that can," the purple haired girl questioned. She did have Zypher, but as close to evolving as he was, he was still far too small to fly on.

"Well, let's get this over with."

There seemed to be battles going on just about everywhere now, as this time Jasper passed by a young man with dark blue hair and a spoon-wielding bipedal mustached Pokemon locked in battle against a raven-haired girl and a rather eager-looking elk thing. Jasper had never seen either Pokemon before, but he didn't stop to ponder it that long as he knew Violet City was literally just around the proverbial corner. He would have made a mental note to look them up in the Pokedex he intended to acquire, but he'd never be able to remember them so he was content to just press onwards in hopes of reaching his destination. He soon reached the break in the path where the Sudowoodo once blocked it, and he followed the one pointing the way to Violet City.

The ride itself was actually quite boring, and Jasper found himself to be feeling sleepy as he continued to pedal. He passed by a sign post that pointed the way to some place called the Ruins of Alph and continued on until he reached another gatehouse. 'What is it with all these gates?' he thought as he passed through it, the guard on duty not even bothering to look up at the boy as he went through. As Jasper emerged on the other side of the gate, he was greeted with the vaguely familiar scenery of Violet City. He'd been here before, though that was when he'd been living with one of his foster families, so he didn't really remember much of it.

It was easy enough to find his way around, as mostly everything was labeled quite nicely. He found the Pokemon Center easily enough, but he wasn't sure which way he had to go now if he wanted to head for New Bark Town. He spotted two girls standing nearby, one with brown hair, and the other with green hair, and since they were the closest to him, he decided to ask them for directions. He got off his bike and walked it over, slapping on a charming smile. "Good morning, ladies," he said, nodding at each of them in turn. "Would either of you happen to know the way to New Bark Town?"

In the blink of an eye, everyone was entering the arena. One minute, he was all alone, but the next, everyone was with him. Mike was sent into a rage by something Blaine had handed him. It apparently involved Nina and Sabrina. Relax, he thought, picking out Bahamut's Pokeball, I could've seen that coming from a mile away. It doesn't take a Psychic to know that would've happened. Kilik cleared his throat and spun the dragon's ball on his finger. He sent out his Flygon and before getting on, picked up Mitsu and placed her on the green dragon. Kilik hopped on in front of her and put his hand on the back of his Pokemon's neck. "Don't overexert yourself, alright, Bahamut?" he said, kissing the spot above his fingers, "I need you at your best shape when we get there. Now," he laughed, holding on tightly, making sure that Mitsu was clinging to him as well, "Follow Nitro!"

She nodded. Oh, how she missed being outside! With a swish of her tail, she shot up into the sky like a rocket, circling along side Nitro, looking over at her fellow lizard. He was so strong! She could easily tell. She wondered where they were going! All of Master's friends were here, so it must be important! She let out a soft coo and wiggled her tail around.

"Much appreciated, Maxie," Giovanni said, standing up slowly and pacing within his office. "If need be, I can send a few Grunts your way and have them search Mt. Pyre together." The man put his hands in his pockets and froze when he mentioned Mike. A smirk appeared on the Rocket Boss' face.

"I thank you for your concern. However," he closed his eyes, though his back was to the screen, "What I have cooking up here will have Mike tuck his tail between his legs and run like the coward he is." Giovanni turned to face Maxie once more, his hands now behind his back. "Rest assured, Maxie, that I am well prepared for that pest and his little friends." He cleared his throat.

"Let me know if you need, or desire, my assistance at Mt. Pyre. Adieu, my friend." Giovanni cut the connection and turned back to face the door leading to his lab. With what I have here...Mike and his friends will wish they never incurred the wrath of Team Rocket!

Ryka jumped a bit as she heard a voice approach from behind her. She spun around to face the boy - or rather man, for he looked a bit older than her - and flashed a smile at him. "Oh, hello!" She didn't need to give his proposition any thought, and gleefully replied, "That would be wonderful! Thank you!"

Blitz and Iris looked over at their trainer, who's commands had stopped coming, and noticed the stranger. They made their way over to Ryka and sat down on her feet, eyeing the orange-haired man curiously. Upon the sight of Sunfire, Iris' ears perked up. She pranced over to him in order to say hi.

Ryka curtsied to Mag. "My name is Ryka, and these are my friends Blitz, Iris, and Allegra." She pointed out each one as their names were said. "It is a pleasure to meet you!" She walked up to Mag and held out her hand for Sunfire to sniff, before she began to stroke his soft fur. "What a beauty you are, Sunfire!"

Little Blitz climbed up onto Ryka's shoulder, just as Sunfire had done to Mag's. "Now you can have a real battle!" She scratched his head as she whispered to him. These words were just what he wanted to hear, and his cheeks sparked yet again at the thought of new competition. "Would a battle with Blitz here be okay with you?"

“Hmm…” A friend to travel with, huh? A constant rival, right by your side, to gauge your strength with as both of you charge for the top of the ladder? Some Pokemon for Cindy to play with that didn’t seem completely sociopathic?

Scarlet’s hand shot across the table, prepped for the Official Handshake of Friendship and Joy. For once, he offered a smile that wasn’t a smirk. “Alright, Jett! You’ve got yourself a travelling buddy!”

Cindy glanced over at the talking trainers, still gnawing on her Pokeblock. Scarlet looked pretty happy about it, and she’d get to hang out with River more. Maybe it wouldn’t go too bad at all.

Keegan smiled at Kasiya's responses, but didn't say anything else, even in reply to her sarcastic comment. He simply nodded and allowed her to drag him towards the gym, a little surprised at her eagerness, but he reasoned that she probably was anxious to get this whole thing over with, like he was. They made it to the gym without incident, and Keegan wasn't surprised to see that they were the last ones there, though it wasn't more than five seconds before Mike was shouting something about Nina and Sabrina. Those two seemed preoccupied anyway, he thought, being sure to give Mike a stern look that showed he wasn't going anywhere. He'd given his word, and though he wasn't the nicest of guys on the planet, Keegan wasn't one to go back on a promise of that magnitude.

As soon as he saw Mike release the Charizard, the redhead let out a quiet curse word, waiting until the boy and lizard had already rocketed off into the sky before he ran into the side room after Blaine, waiting patiently for the gym leader to deposit the deranged Ampharos before he quickly withdrew his Skarmory, temporarily replacing Shiva in the process. "Sorry, Sasha," he said as he reentered the arena and released the bad-tempered metallic bird. "Alvero barely tolerates me," he added as he climbed up onto the Flying and Steel-type's back. Alvero gave a low growl in reply, an eerie shadow falling over the diagonal scar running down the right side of his face before he lifted off, easily carrying his trainer high into the air after the Charizard and Flygon.
=====
Miharu looked around a few times as she tried to get her bearings, and nodded. "Okay, it's this way," she said, but before she could even take a step, she and Sam were approached by a boy, probably a year or two older than she was, wearing a green jacket and bandanna and pushing a bicycle. "New Bark Town?" she repeated, glancing at Sam. "Uh, yeah, actually," she answered, nodding. "We're heading in that direction ourselves, it's that way." She pointed in the intended direction, wondering why he was heading there as well, for she doubted he wanted to try and capture a Chinchou.

Mag gratefully accepted her handshake. “Yeah, a battle would be great. I’ve been meaning to get some training in myself although I’m in a bit of a pickle,” Mag said with a chuckle. “You wouldn’t happen to know your way around Cerulean very well would you? I kinda got lost as I was looking for tickets to the contest tonight. Although any directions can wait until after training.” He nodded to Sunfire who jumped down. Although the Flame Pokemon was a bit saddened that he could no longer be pet by Ryka, it had been a while since he had been in a real battle and Sunfire was ready for the challenge.

Mag knelt down next to his Pokemon on the other side of the arena. “So, today we’re going to practice your defense. I’ve got a trick I want you to try out with Protect. Y’know how you usually just make that big golden shield?” Sunfire nodded in affirmation. “Well, first I want you to try to make it into smaller hexagonal bits, all linked together. Once you get the hang of that, then try sending the bits flying off after they absorb the attack. I figure an impenetrable shield hitting the opponent has to be just as good as any attack.” The Flareon barked in affirmation, liking the sound of this plan although he wasn’t sure he could quite pull it off--at least not right off the bat.

“Alrighty!” Mag exclaimed while quickly turning to stand up and face his opponent. “Ladies first Ms. Ryka,” he offered as Flareon took a ready stance.

Jett's eyes widened, and his smile transitioned from hopeful to elated in seconds. He readily took the redhead's hand and shook it with an almost cartoonish force, glancing towards River.

The Psychic-type was staring back at her master, her smile mirroring his. Successfully, Jett had made a traveling companion who wouldn't be rude or send his ghosts after her all the time... well, there was just one ghost and she felt fairly confident in dealing with him. Now she aimed that small but pleased smile to the Quilava across the table.

"...S-so um," Jett began, flustered and excited, "we should like... think up some sort of battle plan...! We can go get our badge and get the rest of them and go to all the regions and become champions and stuff--" River was giving him that look again. The kind of looks he got when he was forgetting something majorly important.

"...Oh yeah. I should probably head to New Bark sometime... a Pokedex could be uh. A really big help..." Jett muttered with a sheepish tone, glancing away.

“…” Scarlet’s face suddenly went blank. At the same time Cindy slapped herself in the nose with her paw, flames on her back and head completely flickering out. “… Riiiiiight… Pokedeeex… New Bark… We totally forgot too…”

“Bleeeh. Okay. We can either take Falkner here or head on down to New Bark and fight him on the way back,” Scarlet muttered, scratching the back of his head. “If we go to New Bark first, we’ll probably be able to train up our pokemon a bit first. Then again, you’re probably already prepared to take him, and we don’t wanna slow you down. What do you wanna do, Jett?”
