At this point Tristan looked up at the king. His face bore not a blank stare as the doppleganger had, but a look of determined resignation."So it shall be then." was all he said before straightening his stance."Then may I ask, my lord, for time enough to train?" he reached to his sides and spun his elbow blades, Kaya and Kahna, up against his arms."I would, of course, wish to make the king glad that I am his now. What better way than to win his challenge?" he was hoping that he would be able to do his job properly. Seducing the king would be the hardest part. He needed him to enjoy having him as a "pet" enough that he wouldn't want to risk losing him.

"Please, Jaunus. Don't even start with that nonsense," Marrek said, his tone alone indicating he didn't want to argue with his adopted son over the matter. "The event will be riddled with barbarians of all sorts. The last thing I need this week is to have you carried from The Pit with an axe through your skull. Understand me?" Not only did he not want to lose his successor to the throne, but through the years, he had grown to actually care for the safety of Jaunus. He was becomming almost like an actual son.

With the appearance of Tristan's blades, the King narrowed his eyes slightly. Though he showed no outward defense his body was on the alert for any sudden attack. "Hm.. Well, if you so insist," he replied, at least pleased to hear Tristan was no longer fighting him on subject of the event. "I'll allow you what time you need to prepare."

::Jaunus sighed and shook his head. He knew that just watchign all teh fighting would eat him up inside. He had to do something. On one hand he felt obligated to respect Marreks wishes but on the other hand, not joining this event would be a great injustice to himself::

"Whatever you say father. Didnt know i ment that much to you"

Shiyaa watched Tristan, finally understanding the mirror's use. He stared at the leash in Marrek's hand, then looked at Tristan. He was beginning to wonder what he should do now. Fiddling with his long hair, he merely watched silently.

"Thank you my lord. I will not need long." he returned Kaya and Kahna to his sides."Perhaps the Prince would like to help me train. It may help him forget about wanting to fight, especially the way I train."

"The Pre-Slaughter Party" is what the invitations said.

The Tournament was to begin, tomorrow, and Dust... his plan thus far failing to convince the King that this whole event was a bad idea... had invited everyone he knew to the arena for a party. Dinner and cocktails and dancing and wine and Whores for the taking and song, all on the Pit's sandy arena floor.

Naturally, Shiyaa and Yaru were invited as guests and not hired to be the entertainment. But he remembered to put in parenthesise, "course you could if you wanted to."

Invitations had been sent to the Royal Family, but whether they showed up or not... he didn't know what to expect. And if they did, he was out of ideas on how to persuade them to stop the madness.

So, slaves lighting the candles on the last of the dining tables, Dust sat with his feet up near the buffet, waiting for arrivals to start trickling in. He was ready to play the roll of the goo little host, and had dressed the part, all decked out in a very formal black suit, his tie a deeper blue than his hair.

There were Fighters nearby, practicing fencing, and Dust watched them. They were both pretty good, parrying each other's saber thrusts. But not perfect, as they each had a share of superficial cuts.

...He wondered if they'd both be dead tomorrow. Yep, he was in a jovial, party-throwing mood. He hated failure.

Some would say Tristan was sitting with his eyes closed and legs crossed, but they would be wrong. Tristan hovered in the air, only and inch or so above the ground, with his legs crossed and his eyes hlaf closed. He was still practicing trying to use his abilities, and learning to levitate would definately help in the arena battles he'd be fighting through tommorrow. A small cough intereupted him and he fell to the ground. It was only a small drop but to him it felt like he'd fallen from the highest tower. He had been utterly elated that he'd succeeded and allowed himself to only concentrate on it enough to stay in the air. He didn't d let the pain in his butt bother him much and he quickly swept his leg across the ground behind him and spun into a helicopter kick, jumping into the air and landing upright on his left foot.

The man that had interupted him had learned most of Tristan's moves by now and simply jumped over his sweep kick and ducked under his helicopter kick. "Would sir Tristan be interested in knowing that Sir Dust has invited the royal family to a party in the arena this afternoon." he inquired.

"Of course. I haven't seen Dust in a while, nor Shiyaa and Yaru. It seems like I've been in the palace for years now. I know it's been less than a week but I miss them already. I also need to talk to Dust...." he trailed off as he took the invitations from the servant and rifled through them until he found the one for himself and Jaunus."Take this to Prince Jaunus and tell him that his fathers pet said to sneak out if he has to but don't speak a word of it to the King." the man nodded his head and left. Tristan wasn't sure how much he could trust him on this matter but he'd proven he was trustworthy and did as Tristan asked because he liked him, not because he was obligated to. God knows if it were obligation that had him doing things for Tristan he'd starve. The King had made it very clear that the servants were not his to command and that if any helped him it would be because he had earned their help.

Caprica was in a most unusual location. He had snuck under the buffet table to sit quietly and observe the feet going by. The food made him hungry but the other guests made him anxious. He was, surprisingly, not dressed in his habitual black leather fighting garb. But rather a soft black yukata with no designs or adornments. Underneath he wore a pair of loose black pants common to martial arts practice. On his feet, a pair of black tabi. He might have stepped out of history book if not for the out of place black and grey scarf around his neck concealing the scars that silenced him.

He reached out from under the curtain of the table and grabbed one of Dust's feet lightly to let him know he was there.

"Hey," he said, softly greeting the boy who'd grasped him. And... he'd hoped Caprica was ready for this, but now, his chest tightening as his doubts rose to the surface. Having Caprica come back out in public so soon after his... ordeal, may do him more harm than good.

But he was here now. And ushering him inside and hiding him away again... that was certainly not going to help. He'd have to face the world again sometime.

For now, though... before guests arrived, and the guy already hiding under a table... Dust could devote his full attention to his charge. Slowly, he drew the tablecloth up and said, "Caprica? Why don't you come out here? It's just me... and some servants putting out dishes and plates and things, lighting candles... you're perfectly safe, I promise," he said, making sure his smile found its way into his voice, and he held out his hand for the boy to take.

He shuffled forward a little and rested his chin on Dust's knee, looking balefully up at him. He didn't want people to see him. He crawled out from under the table and sat on the floor beside him, resting his cheek on his hip much like an oversized cat. He wondered what was on the table. It smelled good.

He peeked up over the edge of it, saw people moving around and quickly sat back down again, hiding his face against Dust's side. But he'd seen some avacado. Damn, he wanted some. He tried again. His inky black eyes roamed around the room as he peered over the table. No one seemed to be looking at him. He snatched a piece of the buttery-tasting fruit and returned to his seat beside Dust to eat it.

Yes, he had definately requested Caprica's presence out here in the world too early. But he tried to keep the worry out of his voice when he said, "See? Not so bad out here is it?" And he reached down to stroke Caprica's hair.

"Comfortable?" he asked. "You can sit up here with me, if you want," he added, trying not to sound like he was pushing him. "Can't hide forever," he whispered.

He pouted over his avacado. He climbed up on Dust's lap and nuzzled his face into his neck for a little while. It was such a nice place to hide. Eventually he became distracted by his stomach and the happenings around the room. He watched everything warily as he snatched this and that from the table to nibble on. After he had taken the edge off his hunger he began playing with Dust's hair absently.

Dust lovingly squeezed the boy who'd crawled onto his lap, smiling as his hair was played with.

"Avacados, huh?" he asked, affectionately scratching the back of Caprica's neck. "Never tried one, actually," he whispered to the boy as though it was a State Secret.

And Dust looked around, as though pondering where everyone was and didn't anyone like him any more? But he had Caprica with him, so getting lonely wasn't anything to worry about. ...He had no idea how he was going to explain this to Yaru.

Caprica closed his eyes and smiled at the scractching, arching into the fingers. He really was a big pussycat when it came down to it. He interpreted Dust's words to mean that he wanted to try the avacado. Well! It was his duty to feed his master. Or at least that's how it was in Caprica's mind. He took a slice of the soft greenish-yellow fruit and put it between his lips. He moved close to Dust's face to feed him birdy style.
