"Really?" There was an interest in Lori's voice that only came with a deep interest in old texts. The older the better. It was the best for his work and, frankly, more interesting. He followed the librarian back behind the desks and then peered over his shoulder. He was right. None of the letters lined up, but worse than a typewriter. Who stamped letters? How long had it taken the author to write out? This must have been important. Immensely important.
"Wow..." he mused, and placed a gentle hand under the volume, touching the librarian's fingers as he did. "May I?"

Luca hesitated, reluctant to hand over the books. He wanted to look through them. "Of course," he agreed, offering one of them. "Do you want to read them in here? I'm not setting them up on shelves yet."

Lori took the book and began to look through it, turning the pages as if they could crumble at any moment. They seemed oddly intact, though.
"Oh, uh." He looked up. "Can I not take these home? That was sort of the deal." He really, really didn't want to have to flash his badge and fling his federal d**k around in front of the cute librarian. "Anything legendary, fairy-taley..." His attention drifted back to the pages. "You're going to put these on the shelves?"
Stupid people, children with sticky fingers, people in general... these shouldn't be on any shelves.

Luca hesitated. "No, I wasn't going to put them on the shelves," the elf admitted. "I was planning on cataloging them and taking them home. " To read. These books were impossibly old, and he was interested to see what they contained.
"You'll return them, of course?" He prompted. He certainly seemed careful enough with the books.

"Of course." Which actually meant "Probably." If it turned out these were especially pertinent documents or even entity-written he had every right to seize them. He'd give the cute librarian a look though, before he took them.
"It might sound silly, but this could be very useful for my research. It's sort of my 'thing'." Official job, hobby, main interest outside of happiness. He smiled up to the young man with him. "You're into this sort of thing?"

Luca smiled. He nodded in understanding, the books were certainly fascinating. "Alright," he agreed.
"Yeah. Its kind of my thing," Luca grinned, shrugging at the agent. Old books. Maybe it concerned elves. "What are you researching?"

"Nothing specifically. Not one race or species or--" he paused. His eyes narrowed, though his smile remained. He eyed the librarian's ears. Could it be? He had never met the elf that worked here.
"Listen, this may be completely off-base, but is your name Lucasii? I'm sorry if I'm saying it wrong..."

"Yeah, I'm Luca," the elf smiled. "Listen. These books, I think they're older than I am, someone donated them and they told me to take a look. I'm their expert on antiques." He shrugged. They had no idea he was what they'd call antique himself. "I didn't look far into them before deciding they were valuable."

Older than him? Lori looked down to the book and up to Luca. He was over one hundred years old, but these looked even older. He'd give him that.
"Yeah, these definitely need to not be in public hands..." He was still smirking at Lucasii... Luca. Not the werewolf, the elf. He paused and tilted his head.
"I'm Lorien, with the Bureau." He gestured to the tips of his own ears and pointed to Luca's. His hair was a good style for hiding it. Lori didn't have to hide his much himself.

"Hi Lorien," Luca greeted, opening the second volume carefully. He sat down in the empty office chair and began to read. "These might be logs," he guessed. "Histories. That must be why there's no title. Anyway. You want all of these, yes?" He tore his eyes from the book in hand, looking to Lori.
"Want a coffee? They're terrible, but its all management provides." He pointed to the coffee pot.

"If possible, yes." He wasn't sure if Luca had quite gotten the point, but he wasn't going to bring it up again. Usually there was that little moment of bonding over being entities, but he'd been abandoned for a book. Then again, he sort of understood the gesture.
"No, no thanks." He knew the horror of workroom coffee. "If they're down as legend, though, there has to be something in there. I'll be taking notes. Maybe we can compare. Share? Take one at a time?" What? He was cute!

Well. That certainly got Luca's attention. His eyes widened. "Really?" he beamed. "Great! I'll take notes for you, too. I'm sure we can figure them out." He paused, lookedtoward the clock. "I'm off for an hour, if you'd like to get started..." Maybe a terrible date, but Lori was handsome and elvish!

"Hm? Oh. Sure." Platonic nerd date? He could get behind that. "It's always better to have more than one set of eyes on a document." Better if they were professionals, but Luca was clearly interested. Professionals got stuck in rules sometimes. Lori invited himself to another empty chair and started back at the beginning of the book he had.
"I wish I could date this ink..." Was it even ink?

"We could go to the coffee shop," Luca invited. Lori didn't seem to have picked up on his implied interest in the other elf. Maybe he was straight. "Doesn't look like it'd last long, though. Not without magic. It's been wonderfully preserved."

Oh! That seemed... less platonic. No, no, probably still platonic. He closed the book and gave a smile and a nod.
"No, this is definitely something interesting." He didn't mention that the Bureau might want them even more then. He wanted them first, though. "Do you want a ride?"
Why was his gaydar so broken on pretty faces? It was undoubtedly a personal weakness. A visage with aesthetic lines were too distracting to try and read people. Maybe this cafe visit would help? "We'll have to be quiet. Or sound like we're insane. Either is fine."
