what cliffhanger where? arrrrgggghhh im not following you gonk
Jesus Christ on a pogo stick skipping across the red sea! Like the Necrons in Winter Assault.

That was very imaginative Brookman. Kuroda, they left a mysterious ending of that movie so that everyone would go bat-s**t crazy over who it was. Right now everyone is like "OMFG! Who could it be! I bet it's the Tyranids!" and if it turned out to be Chaos then I'd imagine they'd be losing money there, because Chaos is old news.

@ Brookman: It'd most likely be Moses, you know. Followed by hordes of the Jews.

@ Kuroda: You should have your eyelids stapled open and then sent to watch the season finales from Stargate SG-1 seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. Or any season finale, really. (Yes, I excluded seasons 5 and 6. As I remember it, those seasons wrapped up their story arcs.)

@ Sanity: Exactly. This whole thing is to hype the ******** out of everybody.

Yeah so in this way we can almost be certain it's Tyranids. If it's not this is where I say "I'm done b***h" and leave the franchise alone.

Why? Just tired of seeing Chaos in the limelight?

I don't know. This game has to be amazing, Earth-shattering, ground-breaking. I don't want the same thing spewed up differently. Sure, a new race would be pretty sweet and peak my interest, but they try to get our attention for no real reason other than to laugh on how excitable we are.

The Tau Hive Fleet? What is so special about that? Oh, and I'm pretty sure it's the Tyranids because they wouldn't leave Chaos as a surprise, everyone has seen them and played them as a race, what's so special about that? If they wanted to leave an awesome cliffhanger, it would be for something fantastic, not usual.
Tau... Hive Fleet...

I think you missed the whole point there. I still think it's the Tau. 3nodding

I don't think it will be Tyranids for this reason.

Dawn of War 2 focuses more on small, squad-based roleplaying with personalities.

Space Marines are a given, Eldar are in the trailer as are Orks.

Tyranids don't have a personality and are simply wave units. While some units are an exceptions, they're mostly cannon fodder. You could say Orks are the same, but Orks can be tricky at times and at least have personalities.

I personally think it's going to be Chaos since it's their classic anti-Space Marines. There was a lot of focus on Chaos recently (The Eye of Terror campaign being one), and as with Dawn of War 1 Chaos was among the first four races to be released, with IG, Tau and Necrons, then Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle being released subsequently in that order.

Personally, I think the Eldar was pointing to a warp storm indicating Chaos, and that after the first few months additional races will be added ala Dawn of War expansions.

On a side note, I'd be interesting if it was a Dark Eldar raiding force instead of a Chaos Warp Storm.

I'm positive Chaos are in it, I'm debating on whether that cliffhanger was for the Tyranids or Chaos.

Aren't there only four races? If so, one race is getting the boot.

There has been no final confirmation on the amount of armies included in the game. Three have been confirmed thus far and one is being hinted at.

Wikipedia
Some have speculated that the clouds look similar to the storms surrounding the Eye of Terror, suggesting that Chaos will make a return. However, the cloud is clearly moving and between the planet and its moon-indicating that it is equally possible that the cloud is formed from millions of Tyranid spores. Also, something that may resemble a Tyranid Hive ship can be seen towards the bottom of the cloud.

You know, she might have simply become delirious in her final moments of life and was pointing at nothing at all, the "cloud" simply being exhaust from that Dreadnought. wink

Really though, saying that "It's not 'Nids because DoW2 is squad-based" isn't terribly valid, because whatever it is, there's enough of them that they're tracing a big-a** cloud across the sky.

In the same way that 'Nids kind of go against that "small force" thing, so do the Orks. Ergo, larger forces are possible.

I'm looking forward to taking some Orkz and beefing the crap out of their gear.

I hope there are better demons in this one. Horrors don't look good and they don't play well.

Don't you ever pay attention? This game uses the same engine that Company of Heroes uses, so yes it can support LARGE NUMBERS of DETAILED models.

And for the sake of killing things, if you people compare the tendrils in the sky to the art of a hive fleet found in the 5th edition rulebook then it should be obvious. Go on! Grab that book and compare you rats! Compare! Page 166!

What about Kommandos, Flash Gitz, and other elite units.

Anyway, if you read the website it hints at tactical squad based action.

Dawn of War 2
...taking players to the brutal frontlines of war to lead an elite strike force on a mission to save the Galaxy.

Dawn of War 2
With a focus on fast-action RTS gameplay, Dawn of War II brings to life the science fiction universe of Warhammer 40,000 like never before. Experience the intimate brutality of battle as you play through your chosen race’s epic campaign. Clash with enemies on battlefields ablaze with visceral melee and ranged combat. Lead and develop your squads from raw recruits into the most battle hardened veterans in the Galaxy.

While you could say Genestealer's are the "elite strike force" of Tyranids, the whole "raw recruits into the most battle hardened veterans" makes me think otherwise. Tyranids don't have a mind of their own, and like Necrons, can't gain experience. Space Marines are a given and embody an elite strike force, the Eldar were shown with aspect warriors which are the elites of their race, and the Orks were shown having Killa Kans, a Nob, and some burnaboyz, and stormboyz. This is all in relative small numbers according to the E3 Trailer, and they all have between 12 to 20 units. This isn't how the Tyranids operate, unless the field a Macragge-like force of 4 Genestealers and 12 termagaunts. Even then, why would a giant cloud appear when there's such a small force of tyranids (with a hive ship even)?

Chaos is the classical antagonist besides Orks in Warhammer 40k, and while I do acknowledge that there were a fair amount of games with Marines versus Tyranids I still think it's going to be Chaos. Tyranids have already appeared mooch more than Chaos.

I hope it has Night Lords, since they epitomize small Tactical squads in 40k, and there's a neat story about them in the 5th Edition Rulebook.
