"Damn sea creatures...makes me miss the lenaar...."
Remus struggled to get free of the creature's grip, but his struggles only caused the barbs to dig in deeper and tear more flesh. However, that would not be the worst for him. The mini-kraken lurched forward and bit down on Remus with its beak.

The boat rocked treacherously again, the hull beginning to splinter. A few more attacks like that and the ship would be torn to pieces. The two men were dangerously close to defeat.

A thin whip of silver-blue fire lashed out from his outstretched hand, severing a few of the tentacles wrapped around the boat. The creature screeched in pain, still continuing its onslaught, but with less force.

Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start,

Kaok's attacks were getting marginally sloppier, but the feeling behind them never stopped. This place was hell - attacked every other second and Remus kept getting hurt and all she wanted to do was to make sure her closest friend was alright.
She still hit the monster, very angrily at that.

"I...can't.....hold...out...for...much longer...
Remus was not about to let himself become food for a cephalopod. Managing to break his sword arm free of the tentacles, the Imperator shoved Valiance right into the soft flesh of the mini-kraken. The creature thrashed, but Remus only twisted the blade, causing severe damage to the creature's innards. The creature thrashed violently before laying still on top of the Imperator.

The battle was over. Remus had dealt the deathblow, even while on the brink of it himself. The sorcerer was still slumped against the side of the boat, breathing shallow as he tried to heal.
A tendril of energy sought out Remus and Kaok, purging them of whatever toxins the barbs might have contained and healing most of their major wounds.

The Faun rushed to separate the creature from Remus, and with a great deal of effort managed to push it back over the side of the boat. She didn't notice the tendrils stretching out as she did.

Remus struggled to get up, but he was finding it difficult. The mini-kraken had bitten into his leg and crushed much of the bone. His flesh was also lacerated in several places where the barbs had dug into him. The pain soon subsided though as magic closed his wounds. The bone mending itself was a bit painful though. At least his good humor had returned.
"Kaok! That was dinner!" Remus chuckled but it soon became a cough.

The effort of the healing immediately after the stabilization spell was beginning to take its toll. The headache was back, pounding directly behind his eyes, and the sorcerer found himself nearly unable to stand again.
But he noticed something. Somehow, they had gotten closer. Emma was close, no more than a few kilometers away.

Kaok tried to pretend as if she weren't as terrified as she had just been, but it was somewhat hard. Her face contorted as she tried to smile.

When his leg was better, Remus stood up and embraced Kaok for a second. He then noticed the state of Hrothbert and walked over to him. Remus placed a hand on Hrothbert's shoulder.
"Hey, are you alright?" he asked, even though he knew perfectly well Hrothbert wasn't.

Kaok spent a few seconds trying to determine if the sorcerer's first statement was outright denial or just an understatement.

"I've been through worse." Remus shrugged, even though his adventure through the mirror had been pretty bad thus far.
"I think perhaps we should all rest while we can and try to conserve our energy. We're going to need it when we reach Emma."

He shook his head at Kaok's offer. "You need your strength."
Remus was right about the need for rest. But he wasn't about to admit that out loud.
"I heard that last unsaid comment, Emperor. We will make it."
We have to make it.
