"Peanut butter's good."
If Maia liked jelly, Lori was going for lemon. He was a broad man by nature, but hi fae genetics only lent themselves to a lean frame, not muscle. He had to work on that himself. His metabolism let him eat sweets and keep it all up. Needless to say he was both hated and admired.
"Sure, I don't have anything planned." He figured "check on Maia" meant more than just a brief hello. "We could go out if you want, even. I could go grab my car. I was just out running." He thrust a thumb toward the road.
Rosie meanwhile politely walked to the side of the dining room and laid down, as she had been trained to do. No begging, but she hated to be alone.

Maia took a bite of her donut, chewing thoughtfully. She considered Lori's offer of going out; hm. She hadn't really been out of the house since the boys had left, except for time spent at HQ. "It's nice out, we could do something. Do you feel like swimming? It's supposed to be hot today. Maybe the park?"
They could take Rosie. "I'll watch her, if you like, when you go get your car," Maia suggested. She really wished Toby would call, what could be this difficult? What were they looking for, anyway?

"Maybe not swimming, but I'm up for the park." At the mention of keeping Rosie around, Lori paused. Did Maia know dogs? It wasn't Rosie he was worried about misbehaving...
"Sure. Yeah, I'll just run back quick and grab it and we can go. Maybe some water too. The doughnut are for you, keep 'em." He shoved what was left of his in his mouth and stood, brushing his sugary hands off on his pants. When he'd chewed and swallowed he turned to Rosie.
"You stay. Keep Maia company while I get the car."
Rosie's ears perked a bit.

"Sounds good," Maia agreed immediately. The park was always nice when the sun was shining. "Thank you," she said, smiling as she glanced to the plate of donuts. She took it and put it up on a cabinet in the kitchen.
She went to join Rosie, petting her. "Toby doesn't keep any dog treats, I don't think, or I'd give you one," she confided. Dogs may not have been as intelligent as Seamus was, and most of the time they were kind of silly, but Maia appreciated the company.

Rosie got up as Lori left the room, looked back toward Maia, and then back to Lori.
"Stay," he reiterated, and Rosie's attention turned to Maia again. She didn't know many of those words, but she wagged her tail anyway. Were they friends now? She was pretty sure they were.

To Maia's credit, she did not end up poisoning Rosie while Lori was gone, with sugar or otherwise. She did however, prop open a book and invite her up on the couch in order to read to her as she waited for the elf's return. She scratched behind the dog's ears, smiling.
"Lori should be back soon, Toby says he doesn't live far from us."

It only took about fifteen minutes before Lori returned to find Rosie on the couch with Maia. The dog had put her head in the selkie's lap and lifted her head and perked when her master showed up again with leash still in-hand. He smiled.
"Lookit you two."

"Rosie and I have become friends," Maia informed him, petting Rosie and setting her book aside. The selkie had been surprised; dogs, at least Rosie, seemed easy to befriend. "Ready to go to the park?" she asked, smiling up at the elf. "Rosie's ready, aren't you, Rosie?"

"I can see that," Lori said with a smile. Rosie realized that this new person was saying her name and so perked and wagged just for that, then Master clapped his hands and called her over and she trotted for him. He laid her harness down on the floor and she stepped into the leg holes, and Lori clipped it behind her back.
"Come on. She's a good car-rider. You can sit in the back with her if you want."

Maia smiled, standing and going to Lori. "Alright," she agreed. She led Lori out the door. It would be nice to get out, and now that she knew Toby and Dari were alright, she felt a bit better. "What do you like to do at the park, Lori?"

Lori shrugged. Honestly he didn't go to the park often if it wasn't to walk Rosie, and he was sure the dobie must be pretty done for now.
"I'm sure we'll think of something." At the very least this was a chance to get to know Maia better. Their relationship was mostly working, not friendly, but it was his job to keep her company today. "We could go to the dog park too, you know."

"That'd be fun," Maia considered. Dog parks were those big grassy areas where dogs could run free and play, weren't they? She gave Lori a smile. "We could talk," she offered. Last time she'd gone to the park it'd been for a picnic. That had been mostly talking.

"Yeah, of course. Rosie could go play and we could sit on a bench and chat. You know, I was thinking, all I know about you came from your official files. I'd like to get to know you better."
He helped Rosie into the back seat and she immediately sat with her tail nub wagging. Then it was to the front with him. Where ever Maia decided to sit was fine.

"You know me from classes, too," Maia said, "But I agree, I'd like to get to know you better." She smiled at Lori, and after some consideration, decided to sit in the front passenger seat. "I'm not that good at talking about myself though, you'll have to ask questions."

"Unfortunately I'm pretty bad at questions," Lori admitted. They began out of the driveway and he thought a moment. "Alright. Favorite color."
