Lady Blodwynn Blizzard is so fething cartoony and brightly coloured, almost like Disney has a hand in their products gonk WWII games are done to death. Unless they are well done, like Company of Heroes that I've seen some play through sessions of. Have you heard? Call of Duty 5 is a WWII game and the whole gaming community groaned. gonk what CoD going BACK to WW2 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i want to see a different war for once (vietnam, korean take your pick) but i dont quite agree that blizzard are cartoony they could be a lot worse in that respect

I've seen a friend play the golden game World of Warcraft and that looks toony as hell, not to mention bland and same. All human males are big blocky slabs of muscle, regardless of class.
CoD 5 will feature a Russian campaign and a campaign in the Pacific, so this time round us Brits are being left out stare
WWII has been done to death already, unless the game is good. See Relic, who now does DoW 2.

Why does nobody ever do WW1, or the Zulu wars? Those would be good, although probably littered with Kitchener-esque moustaches and tally-ho toffs heading the ranks.

Or Korea? Or Vietnam? Most likely because those wars did not end in a glorious matter most likely. A Zulu wars game will most likely be seen as an attack on certain communities and I've been told that the NAACP will jump on it like a rabbid terrier.
A small part of me also fears that when developers make games about such things they will warp it into something less real and more acceptable. The second world war for example is won by the United States alone in most games, other countries were not present. Or just had secondary rolls with hilarious accents.
Though I'd love to see a squad-based strategy game of sorts revolving around the Zulu wars, or a management styled game where you play Douggie Haig and you need to marshal enough troops for each upcoming meatgrinder that you plan. "20 days till the Big Push! Build more farms and produce more babies!"

Why no WWI games? Think about it. The era still called for huge charges, so just imagine you running at, with a lame bolt action gun, a wall of enemy soldiers would just riddle you with bullets.

Lame bolt action gun? Our beloved Lee-Enfield was used for almost sixty years and to great effect. Just because you can't hit the broad side of the barn without a full-auto and need a big book on how to operate the bolt doesn't mean that they suck xp

You do know that there are more game types out there than just shooters? As I already said some posts before WWI could be done as a management sim or maybe a turn based strategy game.

A great many modern sniper rifles are still bolt action. I, for one, would enjoy a WWI varient. Don't let this get too far off track, remember that it's a DoW topic. Perhaps this could be carried to the universal video games thread?

universal video games? i think weve strayed even from that area with discussion about bolt action rifles (mosin nagent kicks a** btw and the M1 grand was cool as well) but sanity has a good point a WW1 game would have no substance it was two groups of people in trenches opposite each other shooting anyone stupid enough to stand upright plus there were some really dumb decisions made in that war even as a strategy game it would be boring unless it was on a big scale (and i mean really big)

Perhaps this could be carried to the universal video games thread? The reason why sniper rifles are still bolt-action is because: 1. They offer more power in a single bullet, good for one-shot-one-kill 2. Snipers are usually hidden or far away, allowing the time needed to reload a round. If you were in an infantry charge carrying a bolt action rifle, you could fire a few shots before melee ensued. Not very wieldy for close quarters

Okay, I was nice the first time, last three posters blatantly ignored me.
Pursue this discussion in the appropriate threads.

So still very little news has come out. The website is very slow to update, IGN has more information on it than the DoW website does.
