Oh, sorry.

Thumbnails: quck short sketches designed to plan everything out; get composition, do shading, etc. etc. They usually only take a few seconds, are very rough, and only used to help make a better finished piece.

You don't need to shade; thumbnails focus on one thing. for you it'd be position/composition/character.
