"Great," Maia beamed, and looked to Toby. "He says yes," she informed him. "We could take a walk, too," she suggested. She knew Dari wouldn't participate in eating, so maybe they could do something fun. Children weren't out for school yet, were they? "Look at the flowers and things."

"Sure," Dari replied, then waited for his chatting partner to respond to Toby and return to him. "Whatever you like. Do you want me to meet you there or are you coming back here first?"

"We're coming to get you," she assured Dari. "And I can make sandwiches for later before we leave." Why waste gas making Dari go to the park himself when they were on the way home anyway? "Are you excited?"

Dari paused for a moment. Err...
"Uh, yes. I think I'll rather enjoy myself. I'll see you and Toby soon?" Maia either misunderstood the true meaning of 'excited' or really, really enjoyed picnics.

"Okay, bye!" Maia hung up, looked to Toby and smiled. "I knew he'd be happy to come," she said. Dari hadn't gone out with them the last few times. Considering that, it wasn't really that surprising that he wanted company today. "What kind of sandwiches would you like for lunch?"

"Anything but tuna. Or bologna," Toby said, making one hell of a face, "I'm not a huge mayo fan. If we've bought it, chances are I'll eat it. We could just go to a sandwich shop later, though. We don't want our lunch getting soggy before we've even had breakfast."

Maia was reluctant to pass up the chance to make Toby a sandwich, but he was right. If they went home and made the sandwiches now, they'd be ruined by noon. "Alright, we'll go to a sandwich shop later," she agreed. "I'm glad Dari's coming with us."

"I'm glad you could talk him into it," Toby said as if Maia had said anything to try and pry the man out of the house. "Sometimes he can get a little depressed if he stays inside too long. I would too, the poor guy." He was lucky. He could walk amongst the humans without a second glance. Dari not so much.

Depressed? Dari? Maia was immediately concerned. "We could go to the lake more often, at night, on the weekends," she suggested. That way, Dari wouldn't have to put on that heavy paint or be locked up inside. "Or we could invite Lori and Annie out and Dari too, we could do something."

"It's not often, I promise. If he ends up painting during the day, that's a good sign of it, but mostly he's alright with...this." He waved generally around with one hand. Dari experienced the whole gambit of emotions, but his concerns were often very different than that of a human. Maybe he felt them differently. Who knew?
They were home soon and Toby turned to Maia.
"Why don't you go and get him? I'll keep the car running."

The selkie didn't seem particularly convinced, but she nodded. She'd be sure to invite Dari to the lake next weekend, he seemed to enjoy water almost as much as she did. When they got home, she smiled at Toby's suggestion and hopped out of the car. "I'll be right back," She promised.
She entered the house and immediately began looking for the alien. "Dari! Dari, are you ready to go?"

Dari was dressed and positioning his projector in the bathroom mirror when Maia returned.
"Coming!" he called and appeared with a smile. The projector, at least, only displaced a bit of pressure. It wasn't like the heavy muck of greasepaint. "Do I look right?"

Maia gave Dari a hug when he appeared. "You look fine," she smiled at him. "Come on, Toby's waiting for us." She took his hand and led him out the door. "Want to go the lake tomorrow? We could swim."

"My nose is in the right place and everything?" he asked. He picked up the pace behind Maia and waved to Toby when he spotted him through the windscreen. "We have to work," he reminded Maia then as they slipped into the car. He took the back seat without allowing argument on the matter.
"Hello hello hello," Toby chimed, "What've you been up to?"
"Nothing," Dari replied with a little slump.
"Well. No more of that. We're off to the park, we have food, etcetera etcetera."
"Or so I heard"

"You look fine," Maia assured him with a smile. "Maybe next weekend then," she said. "We'll have all sorts of fun," she said. There were plenty of things they could do to keep Dari busy. He seemed to regret the fact that today had been so far unproductive.
She sat in front happily, smiling at Toby. "Lets go," she said.
