Love is like the Ocean!

Serena was going about for a morning swim. It was such a beautiful day and the sea was full of vibrant life. All felt as it should. She swam by a group of seaponies playing and waved hello to them. They waved back as well before continuing their games. The merpony then noticed a strange shape on the water's surface. Serena squinted her face in confusion before darting up to figure out what it was.

Once she got to the surface she realized what it was. It was a big ship. She had only heard of them in story tales. Most of her life had been sheltered so she was very naive. She eventualy swam over to the boat and peeked up. There was a handsome man standing on the stern of the ship. Serena smiled lightly admiring him from a distance wondering if she should make her presence known or not.

The young man noticed her and looked down. "Hello there!" He looked the merpony up and down. "Why you're rather beautiful my lady. What brings you to the surface." Taken aback at the man's comment she blushed. "Um...thank you. I'm just out for a morning swim and I happened to bump into you." The man chuckled before stretching a bit. "Well it is quite the beautiful morning." He looked around. "You live nearby?" Serena nodded her head. "Oh yes. Actually I live under the sea."

Now it was his turn to be surprised. "Wait a sec. You're not a regular earth pony?" She cocked her head to the side. "No, I never said anything about me being an earth pony." He eased up a bit. "I see, but still it doesn't hurt. Everyone is different and that's what makes each of us special."

Just then the crew called for the handsome man who Serena had just met. "Who are they?" She asked. He looked over towards her. "They're a group of men I lead. We are supposed to be out on a quest to find a way to gain immortality." He looked at her. "If they catch sight of you there will be trouble. You better go for now."

"Wait! When can I see you again?" Serena called out to him. The man looked back at Serena "How about we meet near the ocean's cove cave about a mile from here at midnight?" The crew called once again. "I'm sorry, but I really do have to go." And with that he left Serena there feeling dumbfounded. She did not understand it one bit, but swam back down to the bottom of the sea to wait till dark.

Once it was a couple minutes before midnight she swam towards the land, but went into the cave he had specified to her. She laid her back against the rocks waiting paitently. Time passed and she wondered if the handsome stranger would show up at all. Just then a torch was seen. She got excited and swam over to see what it was. Once she got over to see what it was she realized it was not him, but a strange man with a sword. "You'll be worth a fortune, my pretty!" And with that he swung his sword at her. She dodged and tried to get away, but he grabbed her tail while dragging her up on the land.

Serena screamed in fear. The handsome stranger whom she had met eventually heard her and came a running only to see one of his crew mates harrassing the mermaid. "Leave her alone!" He went over to the man before pulling him off her then putting her back in the water. "What do you think you are doing to her?" The crew man chuckled. "Well aren't you a softie? Don't you remember the mission we were given? Find a way to gain immortality. Well tales tell if you eat the flesh of a mermaid it will make you immortal," and with that he swung his sword towards him. The man blocked his sword. "If you so dare lay a hoof on her I will slay you." "Go ahead and try," said the crew man. It was a drawn out battle, but in the end luck was on the handsome man's side.

There lying dead was one of his crew. "Oh boy. Not sure what I can do now." He looked back over to the merpony who was in tears. "I'm sorry it had to come to this. I want to protect you, but at the same time I don't know what to do." Serena swam over to him. "You could escape with me." He chuckled. "Heh, I don't even know your name." Serena blinked a bit surprised. "Oh I'm sorry. My name is Serena, and you are?" He sighed a bit of relief. "My name is Darien. I used to be a nobleman's son, but I got denounced since I wouldn't do as they said. So I became a pirate." He looked her up and down. "However, you're the richest treasure I could ever have."

Serena blushed once again. "Well once again I thank you, but I'm sure there are other pretty women from where you live." Darien shook his head."None as so pretty as you." Serena smiled happy to have someone care for her. "So anyways, what's this about mermaid's flesh, immortality, and your quest?" She knew something was up even with him trying to make her feel at ease. "Well let's just say the King paid our good captain some money to find a way to gain immortality. Legends tell of eating a mermaid's flesh will help, but it's only a tale."

He looked down at his dead crew member. "I'll have to figure out a story to tell for him." Serena sighed. "Can we keep seeing each other? I don't want to be seperated from you? I'm alone most of the time. I don't have any family." Darien looked outside the cave to make sure no one else was coming after him before looking back towards Serena. "Well we might have to find another secret meeting spot, but for now you might want to practice caution when we meet. How about when it's me I'll create the password fishsticks. How does that sound?"

The mermaid scrunched up her nose. "I don't know. I don't like thinking of food as a password. How about something more dealing with the sea's beauty like coral?" Darien sighed. "That's fine. I really don't care, so long as you're safe." He then looked at the body. "Well I better get going back before they send more after me. How about we meet by watcher's cove, but remember only if I shout coral should you show yourself. I don't want anyone else coming after you." He looked at the body. "I'll think of some story so I'll be fine. I highly doubt they would kill me for doing this to help you if I could convince them otherwise."

Serena nodded. "I understand. I won't be so foolish to greet others here." She looked up at him. "Well I hope to see you again." Serena then swam off and back to her home. It took her a while to get over what happened. Things were definitely looking rocky already. How she yearned to be a normal earth pony. Then she could end up marrying Darien and live happily ever after. However, things were different and no matter how hard she wished it, she knew she could never be a normal earth pony. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Hopefully she could keep this up even if there would be others after her life.

(Sorry if this is too long. This is normally why I don't enter RP contests since I write more of a novel instead. X_X)
