[[Like, whoa. A kissing holiday? Kudos to the pervy fire nation, lolol]]
"Excuse me?"
Tensions had risen so high in the conference room between the Judges and the young prince that one might have snapped had their resolve been any weaker.
"Prince Ruehl, did you not hear the question?" Judge Tiuk asked, quite positive that he'd spoken clearly the first time.
"Sir, maybe I misunderstood what you had said. I thought the question was something as to 'Would you consider abdicating in the absence of your father?' As far as I am concerned, that has absolutely nothing to do with his disappearance!"
"Of course... Your Grace, we'd like it if you ascended the throne if your father does not return. But the question is very important. You see, we've heard rumors that you mentioned a possible abdication of your rights in the past."
Noting that Ruehl had become quite speechless at this reasoning, the Judge continued, "If you were possibly unwilling to succeed your father then, perhaps someone is expecting Prince Malachai to succeed the throne. If that is the case, we need to speak to him."
Having just heat-dried his hair, Malachai ran a comb through wavy locks and straightened his tunic. He'd been confined to his quarters until his own encounter with the judges... and he was beginning to rather like his freedom despite the fact it was in a single room. They always asked the worst questions... knew more things about you than they let on and most of the time it was fine. However, with Father disappearing and everything, it was much more nerve-wracking to be called in.
A knock interrupted the constant waves of music emanating from a small player on his dresser. Turning it off and moving to open the door, he expected his visitor to be a knight informing him of his turn to meet the Judges. But instead, his visitor... was much shorter than a knight.. no armor.. that little mop of blond hair...
"Peyton! What a surprise!" he said, grinning, "Come in, come in." Opening the door a bit wider, the prince stepped aside to permit the ranger entry. "And to what do I owe your pleasant visit?" he asked.
A defeated sigh. "Whatever rumors you have heard from the past... may have at one time been true. But I know my obligations. I would never let my Nation down. If my father does not return, Heavens forbid, I will rule. I'm certainly not my father. But I certainly can be your King."
"I see, now my Prince--"
However, the prince had endured enough. "I'm so glad I could be of assistance to your investigation, gentlemen, but please excuse me now. I believe I've been more than gracious answering many of your questions. I need to visit my mother. I'm sure she's in a state of worry and I have not yet been able to see her. You will excuse me." Standing and moving to the door, he bowed, "Good day."
"Good.. day, Your Majesty."

[[Lawl, I thought you'd like it. :9 And if anyone forgets what Peyton looks like, It's Peyton. Such an old drawing but I think it portrays what he looks like in my head nicely... X3]]
Peyton stood in front of the other almost stiffly, as if he were in some sort of dream-like trance. He wasn't sure why he had come all this way, sneaked his way past several guards and assuring a few others that he was indeed the commander's apprentice... Blinking several times, the boy was again made aware of the light weight between his hands-- the box-- oh right, he was here to give Malachai his thank you present.
"Uhm..." The teen hated how stupid he was continuing to sound in front of the prince. Yesterday had been bad enough and now he could barely spit out just why he was interrupting the older male. Looking up, Peyton made some sort of unintelligent sound that was supposed to be words but ended up something entirely different. He was going to smack himself when he got back to his room, and not just once. Heart hammering against his ribs, the blond skittered forward, pressing the box against where he figured Malachai's hands would be, lips just barely brushing against what he thought was the prince's cheek, his eyes were closed so he couldn't quite tell. "Happy Novias," he whispered in a breathy tone, stumbling back a bit. This wasn't good, he always felt this light-headed when Haar hugged him or... or when he was going to... His fingers felt very tingly, he thought to himself before his mind decided he was too excited to stay conscious.

[[Oh, you don't know the half of it. Okay, actually, you probably do seeing how much I blab at you over PM. X3 But yes, Haar likes cute things. How else would he have picked up an orphan off the streets when he was broke to begin with?? 'Cause Peyton's adorable, that's why.]]
"Perfectly fine," he reassured the other, making sure to take more careful steps as he proceeded to the other side of the ravine. It wasn't exactly the easiest process, but was made a little easier since his attire was fit for the outdoors. He had made sure of that before he'd left earlier that morning, so the very fact that his trusted boots were slipping on rocks was an anomaly to him.

Alti nodded slowly. It was really... unexpected for Haar to trip. He had to be agile, after all, as it was part of his job... So maybe... though it had been a suggestion for Peyton's gift... he could get Haar some new presents? But Haar had said most all his presents were useful things.... And yet, Alti somehow doubted anyone else would think to get Haar boots -- for one thing, they could be really, really expensive.... But, even if Alti were to get Haar a pair of boots, there were the problems of fitting and so forth, so perhaps it wasn't the best thing, after all....
"Nnn, hey, Haar... is there anything in particular you want to see at the festival?" the teen asked, his expression quite rosy from the exersion of unfamiliar magic practice. He was feeling rather cheery, as well... It felt strange to combine his magics, but it felt so much better than just using one.... It was no wonder he had been sour around magic for so long.

[[Hah, ironically I only added him tripping because I couldn't think of anything to say. XD]]
The soldier glanced back, turning around to face the other but not stopping because that'd be wasting time. So Haar continued to walk, backwards, as he answered, "Well I don't really know what goes on after the first day, I usually can't stay this long," he explained, nearly tripping over a twig, but catching himself.
[[I thought his tripping would be more plausible here since he's walking backwards... x3]]

At the other's words, Alti's eyes widened. The first day was over, after all, wasn't it! That meant while he had been held back in the room.... s**t! In a momentary lapse of consentration, Alti misplaced his foot and was sent tumbling -- right into Haar, who was already unsteady do to current state of walking backwards. Alti seemed to be exclaiming a lot of strange, non-words that day, such as "ack," "ahhh," and "ooomf." Poise obviously was not the theme of the day. Sure enough, Alti's sprawled figure was not at all an image of grace.

[[Buwahahaha~ >w<]]
Haar let out more than grumbled curse as he hit the ground, wincing at the few rocks he'd fallen upon. His back was going to be sore and he really wished it hadn't been due to falling on a pile of rocks... he could've thought of a few more enjoyable reasons for back pain than Alti falling on top of-- Okay, so maybe the rocks were a bit troublesome but Alti wasn't quite so bad.
Laughing, Haar pressed his head against the ground, knowing that there'd be a few leaves and small sticks in his hair, that he'd have to fish out when he finally felt like lugging himself up. "You just can't keep your hand off me, can you?" He asked with a snide grin.

It had taken Alti several moments to orient himself after the fall, which had left him rather winded.... What he felt in those moments was that there was something warm and... breathing below him. s**t. Bright shades of pink peppering his face in rosy, quickly spreading splotches, Alti hurriedly backed off Haar, though he remained on the ground, deciding to sit back on his butt rather than stand up.
"I'm sorry, Haa--" he began, but then realised just what Haar had said. A scowl growing in prominence on his lips below that overly embarrassed and red flush, he crossed his arms protectively in front of himself. "And just what is that supposed to mean, Haar?!" he demanded, feeling both angry and embarrassed.

Shifting to his side, the soldier slowly slid from a crouching position to upright, wavering a bit before holding out a hand to the teen. "Someone's a little touchy, I was just joking~" He murmured with a light smile. "But honestly, what do you think it meant?" He asked with a laugh, brushing, as best as he could tell, several leaves from his hair--there were unfortunately still a few left.

"It's not like it... means anything or... something like that," he muttered rather sourly, choosing to get up on his own rather than taking the other's hand -- after all, he was feeling a bit bitter towards Haar at the moment. "It's just before I had to drag you around.... and I just fell on you 'cuz I tripped 'cuz I remembered today was the second day of the festival and.... oh s**t," he said, his brightly golden eyes widening with his last words.
"Today was the... second day of the festival..." he repeated to himself. "Crap... Hey... uhh.... Haar.... we need to.... get back to the festival quickly, okay? There's some stuff I need to take care of..." he said. From his expression, he was quite evidently on the verge of beginning the closest equivalent to a panick that Alti ever got into. "I really need to get back to the festival or Mother will kill me....."

Haar stared as Alti babbled something about the second days and Allora and-- Damn, Alti was cursing more than usual. "Okay, what do you have to do?" he asked, picking a twig out of his bangs with a frown.

"My flute, remember? I was supposed to start performing earlier today... I think I might be able to make the last couple performances of the night, but.... I don't think the others will be at all happy with me," he murmured with a slight grimace. There was one in particular that he knew would simply fly off the handle with his extreme tardiness....

[[-dies- Sorry for any typos I don't catch, I think I'm only half conscious.]]
Haar shrugged, "You can always tell them the truth-- you were under lock and key...just don't explain why," he suggested, raking fingers through his hair before picking a leaf out of Alti's that he had no clue how it got there.
"Otherwise, just given them a spicy lie to think about for the rest of the day," he said with a grin, finally walking on solid ground.

Alti rolled his eyes. "Yeah, like what? I'm sure they would be just so overjoyed that I skipped out on the performances for something... what did you call it? spicy....." he said, a scowl prominent on his lips. "Really, I can't comprehend why I used to think you were proper...." he muttered to himself, shooting the older male a small frown. When they'd first met... Haar had seemed much vaguer, and more polite.... not that Alti prefered that -- no, that was just like everyone else the teen knew, with a few notable exceptions -- but it was almost funny how his image of Haar had changed so drastically in the short time since they had become friends. At that thought, he shook his head slowly, his dark hair whisking across his forehead silkily, a small grin replacing the scowl. He really couldn't stay even mock-angry when he thought of things that way.....

[[I can imagine Haar being like, " sweatdrop ". X3 -loser-]]
"You never know~"
The young soldier brushed a hand through dark brown hair, laughing a bit nervously. "Heh, I'm just...not quite so dignified once you get to know me? It's just a facade I put on in front of the royals and my teams so they'll listen to me," he explained. "I am really sorry though, would you prefer for me to treat you like that?" He asked, honestly curious on the teen's answer.
