Oliver didn't miss the surveying look Kotoro gave him, but he didn't delay on the thought for too long when the other told him to keep on the loose, sleeveless top. He nodded reasonably and continued to follow Kotoro.
A few blocks later he asked, "What is 'pay'?"

For some reason, Kotoro was becomming used to this kid following him now. Unless he wanted to get mad and start threatening him, he didn't think Oliver was going to go away.
".. Are you serious?" he asked, but didn't wait for an answer before continuing- "It's what you do when you buy something from a store or whatever. You know like.. you want the peach, you exchange it for money.. Which you, actually, didn't do. I did. Either way, I paid for the food and now it belongs to me."

Oliver just stared at the red-haired boy as he went into his explanation. Trade for food? What an odd concept.
But... Oliver didn't have any of this 'money.' He'd seen it before.. a few coins on the ground, or changing hands amongst humans. He'd heard it jingling in pockets. But he didn't actually have any of his own.
"Mhm," he nodded slightly to show he understood. He adjusted his goggles back over his eyes. A problem was surfacing in Oliver's mind... debts between Nixes could cause all kinds of problems. The last thing he wanted was to be in debt to a human. "Where are you going?" the Nix asked.

"Home," Kotoro replied curtly, his fingers shifting their grasp on one of the bags he held. Whether it was from impatience or just idle fingers, he didn't take note. "Just like everybody else does when they get off of work."
"You do know what work is, right?" he asked, meaning it to be pure sarcasm. If Oliver was going to ask about what 'paying' was, for all he knew, he would ask about work, too.

Kitsunes Fire Mie-tanuki "So Rina is kinda like everyone's mother here. Second mother for most of us and regular mother for Kon. If you stay here too long, she might become yours, too," he said with a bit of a grin. "But don't tell her I said that... she's not that old and gets kinda huffy about it when we mention it."
"Who's huffy?!" Rina's voice called from across the salon. She apparently had very good hearing. Ryu looked over and smiled gently at Rina. Yes, she definately reminded Ryu of himself. He looked back at Kon. "I'd like to meet her sometime..." he smiled, his eyes softly glittering.

Oliver had observed work many a time... but he was unfamiliar with all these foreign terms. But it was undeniable... that tone Kotoro was taking with him was starting to wear on his nerves.
"Nn-nn," he voiced, looking expectant of another explanation.

Kon paused for a moment, looking thoughtful. He had never swum in his human form before, although he had done it occasionally - maybe four times? - when he had needed to in his fox form. He flushed slightly, feeling a little embarrassed. He had never been any good at swimming. "Kon... Kon... doesn't know how to swim," he murmured, looking both appologetic and embarrased.

Ryu laughed softly "That's ok...Either I can teach you or we can do something else.....um....We could go bowling...or go to the beach....or walk around town...or look at some of the shops...." He grinned. "Basicly, there's plenty we can do."

Kotoro's steps faltered slightly with the negative answer, but he quickly right himself once more. He looked at the smaller boy wearing those weird goggles. Those caused him to look even more like a kid than he already did, he thought absently.
Instead of giving definition to yet another word he believed everyone should know, he shook his head slightly. "Can I ask you a question?" he said.

"Mmm... well, Kon is teaching you hair and cosmetics, so you can teach Kon swimming, neh?" he said with a smile. He did want to learn - after all, swimming seemed to be something that most humans did. Of course, not so many did it now, as it was winter, but he supposed the other would have some solution for this.

Of course, not so many did it now, as it was winter, but he supposed the other would have some solution for this. ((sorry- i just escaped from a quicksand pit of neverending mail....)) "Ok!" Ryu seemed estatic to be able to teach Kon something in return. "And don't worry- the water will be nice and warm cuz the pool's indoors..." He smiled. " But where do you live? You're going to need to change into a bathing suit first...."

He smiled and added softly "You aren't used to human customs, are you?" He quickly added " I don't care though" He smiled, then changed the topic " Would you like a bathing suit? Or would you preferr to swim without one?" Personally, Ryu hoped Kon would take the first choice...the second might make it too tempting...

Kon almost jumped, his expression shocked. Was he that obvious?! "Wh-what do you mean...?" he asked hesitantly, trying to hide his agitation with a smile - and failing. "What... what is normal?" he asked. When he had swam, it had always been in his fox form and with his family. They had no need of clothes, so that was what was normal for him, but... somehow he got the idea that it wasn't quite the same with people.
((He's. So. Dumb. xD He should... he should meet Tato's chara, Haro...))
