"Uwa!" the boy exclaimed as he was once more jerked away from a stall and into the crowd. Haar seemed to be having fun dragging him around everywhere, tugging every which way, and thuroughly confuzing the now rather scattered teen. He wasn't in as good of shape as Haar, either. In fact, Alti had a bit of a weak constitution -- he had always been rather scrawny for his age and wasn't exactly what one would call "strong."

"Ah, Haar, wait up!" he exclaimed, slightly out of breath. "I-I get it already... sorry for dragging you to the restaurant last night, alright?" His free hand had raised to press lightly against his own chest, trying to make his breathing less... heavy. His cheeks were burning with combined effort and embarrassment with just how weak he was.

"No need to apologize. We're here." What exactly 'here' was was debatable. It wasn't much of anything, unless someone had a deep appreciation for rock pits. Essentially, it was just a secluded area that wouldn't burn as easily as a forest. Even so, the young man highly doubted Alti would be able to start a big enough fire that it would surge out of his or, more importantly, Haar's control.

Jumping over a bit of a chasm, Haar grappled for a place to steadily stand before turning around. Loose rocks were never very easy to balance upon. Stretching out an arm, the commander grinned, "Not done with these quite yet," he murmured, taking hold of one of the teen's hands, essentially pulling him over the gorge. "You know, if you weren't such a pansy I think you'd make a decent soldier," he commented, brushing off his hands before sparking a tiny fire between his hands. "Fire magic is all about control. You can't really, truly control the fire without burning yourself so you're merely guiding it, keeping it contained enough to be able to move it," he explained, the flames licking the sky as the young man gradually pushed the ball back and forth between both hands. "I think it's easiest to think of the fire within a bubble or something, you have to think hard about where you want that bubble to go, and you never want it to break or your fire's about to go out of control," he murmured, "Sometimes, you want the fire to just do what it's best at-- destroy things. When you're attacking something or someone you control it up until the point you don't need to give it direction and then you let it go. Other times, you may want to create a barrier with fire, that's a little more complicated because you usually have to find a powerful spell that will contain it for a time, or else there's no real point in creating a barrier," he added quickly before squeezing the fire enough that is blew out in a puff of smoke.

"Oh, one last thing, if you want to put it out, just imagine that bubble closing in on the fire, and eventually it will go out," he explained before holding out a tongue of fire to the teen.

Alti glanced around himself, trying to see where exactly 'here' was. It wasn't really... anywhere special or anything. Just a bunch of... rocks. Quite understandably, the teen was rather... curious to know just what they were doing there -- and why and.... well, it wasn't the most comfortable place, particularly with the massive potential for slipping on loose rocks and tumbling into some hidden ravine or something. He watched the other cross the miniature gorge and followed silently, allowing the other to help him across. Though he was weak, Alti was quite agile... so even if he wasn't at all strong and he wasn't a fast runner or anything, he could be... careful. He was good at being careful and, though he did not look or act it, he was quite flexible.

"Nnn, why do you say that?" Alti asked, deciding that, for the moment, he would ignore the small insult. He didn't think he had ever displayed any particularly soldier-worthy qualities to Haar... after all, he was slow and he didn't have all that great control over his magic -- or, at least, not when he was trying to just use Storms magic. But his control was getting better, and his magic stronger, as he developed a mixture of the two magics.

Wait, magic? Haar was teaching him magic -- and right out of the blue. He hadn't said anything about it before hand, but.... but Alti had told him he wanted to learn about Fire magic more.... A small smile creeping onto his lips, the dark-haired teen murmured, "Thanks, Haar... Happy... Novias -- that's it, right?" He bright eyes reflected the flames and, slowly, he held out his hand as the small tongue of fire moved towards him. The flames seemed to... change slightly as they approached the teen -- somehow becoming rather more purple-tinted, though their heat did not intensify. But then, his blood was quite different from Haar's, after all. Once he had the flames fully in hand, he did as Haar had before, moving the flames back and forth, his bright golden eyes reflecting yellow, orange, red, white and purple. It felt... strange. He knew it couldn't just be the Fire magic -- he felt almost as if he had some sort of... cool, moving wax coat barrier on his skin -- one that wouldn't be melted by fire. He could feel the heat of the flames... but not strongly. Obviously, the barrier, whatever it was, was taking the brunt of it.

"This feels... strange," he murmured slowly, his eyes moving from the flames to his own hand, which looked slightly... bluer than usual -- like he could really see the wax. There were most deffinately golden sheens and reflections from the fire, and yet his skin still looked... bluer. Strange.....

Haar watched curiously as the make up of the flame mutated considerably once fully in the teen's hands. Instead of being a bright, golden-orange, the tongue flickered a few shades darker, the tips appearing almost purple-blue in color. The soldier wasn't sure if it was just a trick of light, if the flame was merely reflecting Alti's hair or if it was something entirely different... Haar knew that Ceris's, on the rare occasion he even used fire magic, flames tended to be much brighter than his own...whereas Xel could barely even keep a fire going by his lonesome due this mixed nature.

Red eyes watched as delicately long fingers held the flame in place very effectively for someone who had never held fire before. The young man assumed Alti could hold the flame without much danger due to his other half, the misty storms blood was keeping him safe while the fire half allowed him to utilize the magic.

"Yes...Ah, happy Novias, Alti," he murmured gently, leaning forward out of habit. "You almost got it right," he added with something close to a grin before pressing a kiss to Alti's cheek.

[[lol, it's tradition.]]

((I don't think it's a good decision to surprise a complete Fire newb when he's got a flame going. 8D;;;; ))

"But I said 'Novias,' how's that only almo--" the teen began, but was cut off as the other pressed a small kiss to his cheek. His face nearly matching the reddened hues of the other's fire, Alti took a slight step back as the his own fire immidiately seemed to become rather more chaotic -- and he really didn't want to burn either Haar or himself. It took several moments, but he got it under control again, one hand raising to rub at the spot on his face that the other's lips had touched. "Eww, Haar, why--" he began, a small scowl on his features. He really was quite greatful that that, in the darkness, the flames distorted the color of his skin... He really did not want Haar to see just how red his face was at that moment. Of course, several moments later, he realised that, for a Fire native, it was 'tradition.' "--Oh yeah..." he finished, his voice lowering. "Jus don't... do that again, at least not why I'm holding a fire, 'kay? It's hard enough as it is....." he muttered somewhat reproachfully. He was getting better at hiding his true discomfort -- at masking the bright flush and the pounding in his chest. More than anything, he was feeling very embarrassed and stupid.....

[[Umfumfumumfnomnom... I mean...Fufufufufufufu~ -evil- >:9]]

Haar laughed. "Don't worry, this only happens once a year," he said with a completely amused grin. It really was hilarious how easily flustered the teen became at times...usually times when Haar was too close. "Anyway, next I want you to try and localize the flame to your fingers because once you master that you can do a lot more with the fire and guide it a lot easier than with your whole hand," he explained, demonstrating a bit, making little designs in the space in front of him out of a trail of fire that appeared to be coming from his fingertip. "If you can't, it's fine, I think it's asking a lot of someone who's just starting out," he murmured, taking a step backwards, careful not to slip on the loose footing.

Alti nodded, deciding first to try out what Haar had said earlier -- envisioning that bubble compressing down, squeezing the air away from the fire... and it was working, the flame grew dimmer until it was no larger than that of a candle, the flame an eerie bright blue-purple. Then, with one last willing thought, the flame extinguished alltogether. The teen took a deep breath in, holding it several moments, gathering the warmth he had encountered within himself on several occasions, pooling it together... then, on the his exhaled breath, he moved that warmth out and down along his arms, trying to get it focused down to his finger tips.

It worked. Sort of. There were several fires, and they were smaller... but as he moved his hands, it was as if his flesh had a... repelling effect on the flames -- they didn't fix at the end like Haar's, but kept eddying away from the tips of his fingers, where the waxy protection seemed to be keeping the flames at bay. He frowned, allowing all but one of the flames die, leaving only the one on the index finger of his right hand.

"It doesn't work... quite the same," he murmured slowly, raisig the fire close to his face. It didn't hurt... he could only feel a mild, pleasant warmth.... He then let out a gentle breath, not quite sure what it would do... He had been expecting the flame to blow out all together, but that wasn't the case. The repelling affect of the waxy blue barrier combined with the force of his miniature wind of a breath and dislodged the small flame, sending it spiralling off. He frowned and then slowly inhaled, causing the flame to come spinning back. He closed his mouth just in time, taking a hasty step back to keep himself from getting hit. He reached forward carefully with his hands and slowly cupped the flame there, his eyes transfixed for several moments before he glanced up at Haar. "Nnnn, Haar, do you know anything of inate protective magic...? 'Cuz, I mean... I never made this.... barrier thing happen. It just... did...." he murmured slowly, his brow slightly furrowed.

Haar stared down at Alti's hands. He couldn't really see the barrier that Alti's described the way he could, but he did, however, see it's effects. It wasn't allowing the teen to use the magic the way he did, which would prove harder for him to teach the basics if half of Alti's blood was trying with all it's might to protect the teen from the flame. "Not sure, honestly. I think it may just have to do with your mixed blood," he suggested before creating a mini-bonfire between his hands, holding up the ball close to Alti experimentally. "You storms half doesn't like fire too much, I'm assuming, and I think it's just kicking into high gear," he murmured, watching with an intense interest as the fire flickering against his palm literally shied away from the teen.

With a surprised look, Haar let the fire die, staring at the boy's hands. "That is so cool, I usually have to wear gloves just in case but you'll never need anything like that. You may not be able to control fire as well though if your hands sort of repel it, but then again I'm surprised you can even use it to begin with," he added, straightening up before rubbing the back of his hand against his forehead.

(("That is so cool." lol. Haar sounds like some teenager. xD ))

Alti nodded slowly. That was what he thought as well. He flinched slightly as Haar held the flames up to him, but, after realizing that he didn't feel any pain, he settled back down. He really did seem to... repell the flames. "I think I can only use it 'cos it's... well, the flames I made feel... different from normal ones, or from the ones I've seen you make... they're more... I don't know, liquid. They feel less like fire... though maybe that's just because I can't feel the heat as intensly as is normal, I suppose...." he explained slowly, although he looked rather unsure of himself.

Alti blinked, surprised at the other's unexpected praise. "Ehh, really....?" he asked, looking quite taken back by the other's attitude. It seemed, to him, so... simple. Not difficult at all. "Hey, Haar, how does my fire feel to you?" Alti asked, getting a sudden idea. He uncupped his hands and extended one arm, the flame flickering gently as it approached the other. Of course, he didn't just thrust the fire onto the commander... he waited for the other to touch it, since he knew Haar didn't have some sort of protective barrier or anything....

[[Yeah I realized that after I submitted the post... I blame the fact that was was 19 not too long ago and Alti makes him giddy? XD -shot at-]]

Haar gingerly held a hand out towards the small fire flickering in the teen's palm. Alti was right about one thing, it wasn't a regular flame. He didn't think it had any sort of liquid properties though because...that would put out the fire, but it was...different. The heat coming from the flame was weaker than his own, his exuded large amounts of heat whereas this one didn't. "It's...I--" The young man frowned, searching for a way to explain something he wasn't even sure about himself. "Your's just doesn't produce as much heat, I don't really know why," he murmured almost sheepishly. Holding both hands around the others, Haar wondered if he could add to thefire, see if he could change it to something more regular. Try as he might, everytime he thought he was making the flame resting in the boy's palm more red it surged forth to a bluish color.

"It's hopeless, you're fire's just weird," he muttered with a shrug.

[[Hah. I love how if Alti's fire was really blue it'd be super hot...but..whatever.. XD]]

((If it were normal fire, yes. But it's not. I keep imagining it more... gel-like. 8D;;; ))

Alti scowled slightly at Haar. "I know that already. I suppose if I... tried to just do Fire magic, it'd be hotter, but... this is easier. If feels better when I use them both at the same time... I mean, remember when I did that first teleportation spell after the party? It didn't really... work at all. But later, when I had to get us both home, it worked... and... well, you wouldn't have noticed, but it was different from usual. I mean, I didn't know about myself then, but... you were with me and I think maybe the Fire blood in me reacted to that and sort of... helped.... Sorry, I don't think I can explain it any better than that...." he mumbled rather uncertainly.

"So my fire's weird 'cus... it's not just... fire...." he murmured with a small shrug. "At least, it doesn't feel like just fire.... It feels more like hot water or a warm breeze... except... different. I don't know..." Alti frowned, his brow furrowing together as he tried to think of a better way to explain that feeling.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 7:45 pm

Haar scratched at the back of his head. "Well, sounds...complicated. As long as it works somewhat the same then I should be able to teach you more, but I'm not sure if it does," he said with a frown. "At least you can control it...the same, pretty much."

"Any questions?" He asked with a lop-sided grin, looking positively pleased with himself. Not only had he been able to spend the day away from the pressures that had just appeared that morning, he had been able to teach Alti a little something about fire magic and sneaked a kiss in there somewhere which he passed off as tradition.

[[so stealthy.]]

((Does Haar just like kissing, then? D: ))

"Nnn-nnn," Alti said, shaking his head slowly from side to side, his dark hair whisking from side to side slightly with that motion. He had extinguished that small flame, curling the bit of fire in his fist until it vanished. "Hey... Haar.... so... for Novias you give gifts... right?" the teen began, a small flush on his cheeks. He wasn't... good at these things. He occasionally gave gifts to Allora, but... he hadn't had any friends before to give presents to.... "Is there anything you... want? I mean..." he continued, his voice trailing off slightly at the end, a bright flush of embarrassment forming on his cheeks. His bright golden eyes shifted slightly to the side -- he was feeling too abashed to meet the other's gaze.

[[No, he just likes kissing cute things. :< Like puppies. And Alti. And the occasional duckling. ]]

Haar blinked, looking clearly surprised at the question. "I...I mean I usually just...get useful things, like more swords or weapons or something, even though we have several black smiths to make weaponry for us at the castle. I don't know, if you really want to get me something feel free but I don't really have a list or anything like that," he explained nervously, slipping on a rock as he attempted to head back.

((I didn't think he was such a sucker for cute. O: ))

Alti nodded slowly and murmured, "Ahh, right...." Well, that certainly shot down his plan. He hadn't... intended to get Haar a sword, since he knew the man already had one he loved very much, but.... It had been an idea to get something 'useful' -- like a blade sharpener or something... but... he supposed that if he had thought about it longer, he would have known that Haar got enough of those, so it would need to be something else....

Alti looked over at the other just in time to see him slip. "Ah, Haar, are you alright?" he asked in a worried tone.
