You walk through the dark, shadowed forest. In the middle of a clearing, with one single ray of light centered on it, is a mirror. What do you see when you look at it?
I see my reflection - I see who I really am inside.
I see who I have become - all my past efforts and endeavors roll before my eyes.
I see potential - the future, with all its possibilties, becomes clear to me.
I see my inner demons. I recognize them, so that I may conquer them.
I see darkness; the mirror is not a mirror, but a window to my soul.
I see someone else - the mirror is not a mirror, but a window, showing me my heart's true desire.
I refuse to examine the mirror. It is an illusion - I do not need it to tell me what I already know.

"See you later, Perrault," Farfarello lanced after Bones, not even looking to see if the elf had noticed their little exchange.

"Ganzi", Hashmal patted the distraught Raedou's back, "I never will. I hate kids."

Raedou laughed.

"Good," he said, "Now, if you will, help me push the caravan into the shade..."

The Ganzi walked behind the caravan and began pushing it toward a very large rock nearby. Ackune began trudging toward the giant stone, groaning with hunger.

-----

Perrault stomped forward, grumbling angrily to himself.

"Who needs him, anyway?" he growled, "I can find wood myself. Just you wait and see, Far!"

-----

The fireball sped past Aria's sand skiff, making a loud and adorable beep/zooming noise. This woke Diine up with a start.

"W-Wha?!" he cried, startled, "What was that?!"

He looked over the side of the caravan and saw Farfarello chasing after the fireball.

"What... in God's name..." he stuttered, "I... I must be dreaming."

Aria gave an odd look to the demon, "Vinn! What's our bearing?"

"South 57 degrees East." came the reply from somewhere up in the sails.

"Speed?"

"20 knots, why?"

"Because there's a weird creature chasing us at... fast running speed..." Aria said.

---

Hashmal gave a shove at the cart, causing it to shoot forward into the shade.

Ephlas ventured farther down, until he was led into a small, dark chamber. This room contained no windows, and a fire-lit hearth was the only source of light.

So still, he almost did not seem to be alive, was an old man sitting in a rocking chair. Hanging on the wall above the fireplace was a dusty mirror. It still held a vision of the Sands, presumably where Ephlas and co. had been when the Magus had contacted the old man.

"Cid-ras, what's happened here?"

The old man, Cid...ras, waited ten seconds before responding. He then turned his head, and solemnly regarded Ephlas. "The Horder came."

~

Dakon was still slumbering. He had not noticed the new commotion... though if any Horde activities were suspected, as the fireball might be assumed as, then the others would find it prudent to wake the Sand Master.

"Horder?" Clem asked with a bit of curiosity.

"It ssoundss unlike anything we know..." The Nesk said.

--

Aria and Vinn did their usual Horde escape routine, "More slack to the sails!"

the skiff sped up more.

Cid-ras stood, shaking.

"Sunclipse is no more, my son. The Horder invaded us. Our best wizards, Magi, terrier-wards, and drekdre failed to halt his advance."

The old man, Cid...ras finished his slow attempt to stand. His gaze was solemn as his speech was slow.

"The desert shall be full of death by dawn."

Which was not very long away.

"W-wait... is all of Rantuinne in danger?! I need to get a call to the outpost! If they can ascend..." Clem fumbled in his pack, "They can escape..."

Raedou scowled.

"I loosened it's axels for you, of course." he snarled as he walked toward the shade.

Ackune was on her belly from the force of Hashmal's push, and Raedou then had to struggle to push her back on her feet.

"Sure... we'll go with that." Hashmal opened the small box to view the gems, "We're close to the southern nexus point of Deep Magic... I need to shatter a gem there to negate the imbalance..."

The Draon was feeling the pressure building, and it worried her.

((Far can only run as fast as a human, so you know.))

Farfarello still ran after the small ball of flame, whose apparent name was Bones, not really knowing what he was after. Wood, he supposed, but wasn't it something more? This was too much of a concept to dwell on at the moment for the demon, who barely noticed the skiff and payed little attention to it, though having a bad outlook on such crafts, since the last one he'd seen had come with an old "friend".

Ephlas frowned. "How so, old man?"

Cid-ras turned and gestured at the hanging mirror. The reflection seen in it flickered, shimmered, vanished. In it's place, there could be seen... the future. For Cid-ras was a Seer, and a powerful one at that. He alone knew many of the ancient Seer arts, and that including gazing into the future for longer than a breath-span.

Doubly taxing to one's strength, Cid-ras allowed his guests to view the scene as well.

The desert was in view. However, it was not the Great Sands as humans knew it. Deep trenches, being continuously filled with sand and yet never filled, opened across the land. Many, many crags and crevices... and in other places, humongous juts and outcroppings of boulders and stalagmites erected themselves from the same Sands. The rock was completely black. There was no heat or magma... just dis figuration of the land.

Worst of all were the creatures that came from the crevices. Bizarre, deformed creatures of terrifying adversity and monstrosity spewed from each and every individual opening. They were fierce, indefatigable, and unstoppable.

And although fewer in number, some creatures flew.

Then the view in the mirror shifted, to one crevice in particular. The location of this crag was not discernible, but deep in the darkest, farthest, foulest pits could be seen red, staring, gleeful eyes of the Horder. Not two eyes... ten.

Ephlas' mouth hung agape at the vision. During the entire sequence, it could be seen... to be dawn.

Wordlessly, Ephlas turned to leave. Ne'galash and Clem could do whatever they liked--but for Ephlas, duty called. He would be traveling underground, to stop the imminent future--to stop the Horder.

((We may have a problem. I just perused my mule's Journal, which contains the Mythicaa profiles- and I couldn't find the demons.))
