Fiddlers Green So Far we have Alliance and Weevil offering transportation... for those who are on their way. I would offer, but I'm about a quarter mile from the site, so I'm not of much use there... however, I could probably pick people up from the Airports, San Francisco, San Jose, or Monterey. I'm driving a slightly diliapidated Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I can comfortably fit 3 people, other than myself... if people are willing to get cozy... possibly another 2. I am an experienced double-belter. 3nodding

Alright.
So, I'll be able to provide transportation and most likely lodge (if someone is too poor to afford it themselves), however, I live about 1-2hr drive away from the location.
So, that means that people will have to be willing to live throughout the rediculously long drive.
If I'd be picking people up, the SF airport, SJ, and any other airports in the area I'd be able to drive to. I'm accustomed to spending rediculous amounts of time driving around (I go all around the bay for friends, jobs, etc - so I put a lot of miles on my car), so I wouldn't mind going a bit out of the way.
I will either be driving an old van (my bro's car)... it's like a '92 chrystler mini-van (I think), if it's still alive by then, or my own car, a 96' toyota avalon. One sits 3 others comfortably (4 if someone sits in the middle) and the van can seat 5 comfortably (6 if someone sits in middle). I doubt I'll be packing either of them though. It seems like there are plenty of people offering rides. ^.^

If no one needs a ride from me, I'll probably fly down and then would take YOU up on your offer, Fiddler, to be picked up at the airport. heart

Happy to help, Weevil.
I just had a thought.
Would anyone like to participate in a Modist(a) cook off? I thought it may save money on food expenses, and give us all something else to do together. Oh, and it would give me and hopefully others, a chance to flaunt our mastery of the palate, much to the judge's (everyone else) delight...
Iron Chef: Church of Mod, what do you think?

If I go, I'm making you guys chicken ramen salad. 3nodding Heck, I could even make that before the trip and keep it in the cooler so the kitchen facilities aren't too crowded.

I can try to make something... I can't promise it will rock your tastebuds though.
Then again, I got plenty of time to get better at cooking. 3nodding
If I can save up a decent amount of cash, I should be able to contribute to a pool - for airplane expenses, food expenses, lodging expenses, etc.

I'm going to be touring the grounds, and getting a quote this weekend, from there, I'll be able to give links to lodging in the area, and see if I can get a group discount for the Asilomar lodging... and see when I will need a solid number to make reservations.
I'm looking at starting the Convention on a Thursday, arround mid August of 07, and running until that Sunday, does this sound workable for most of us?

When do most college classes typically start up again? I wouldn't want to dut it too close.

August is most likely when classes for lots of people are about to start... I'd suggest early August or late July if possible, to allow lots of time for people to get ready for school and to cause as little conflictions as possible.

I'll see about the whole month of August... July is mostly out, as most people have expressed inability to make it then, and the month is almost booked solid already. sweatdrop

If it's pretty early in August, it would probably be okay. Choosing a date is probably the hardest part of trying to organize a convention of people all over the country of different ages and needs.
