Saoshyant No, I'm not. Trust me, psychology and art happen to be two of my biggest interests. You're not wrong either, though. Yellow IS the most easily distinguished color, but it is also the most difficult to look at. At the opposite end of the spectrum, as you said, lies blue, which is not as easily distiguished, but is the easiest color on the eyes, hence why many people claim blue to be their favorite color. While it is eye-catching, yellow is exceedingly difficult for the eye to focus on compared to other colors, and is actually even brighter than white. Many tones and shades of yellow are difficult for the human eye to focus upon for very long without irritation. Prolonged exposure to yellow in general increases irritablity, and in conjunction with with the wrong stimuli or certain other colors, it can produce more specific emotional effects, most notably cynicism and laziness. Not to say that yellow is some sort of demon color. Used correctly, it's quite benificial. Yellow has been proven to stimulate memory, hence yellow post-it notes and legal pads. Somewhat paradoxically, it also triggers positive emotions, such as joy, when used correctly in small doses. Wow, interesting stuff... I happen to like art too ninja But doesn't what you just said mean I'd get headaches from sleeping in my very own summer room? It's painted bright yellow (like the whole room), with blue accessories and a lot of sunflowers. Where did you learn all that? And Welcome Back Aisling!

Saoshyant Yoder Saoshyant krome_devil *shakes head and whipes tears* It's ok. Almost no one likes it T-T *goes to make a new avi* Don't worry, krome, you were at a psychological disadvantage. Yellow is the hardest color for the eye to take in, so it's quite overpowering if you use it too much. It also tends to make people excited, agitated, and more easily angered. Babies cry more often in yellow rooms. ...Hooray for random facts. Umm... I believe you are mis-informed. Yellow is the easiest color for the eye to distinguish. Why do you think that the sun appears yellow? If our eyes had no tendecny towards any color, it would appear white. Yellow may be agitatingly bright and all, but you can very easily tell differences in its shade and hue, as compared with blue (the opposite color on the light scale). No, I'm not. Somewhat paradoxically, it also triggers positive emotions, such as joy, when used correctly in small doses. I also second your "white" vote. 3nodding Oh, ok, thanks for the clarification on that. Yeah, yellow is known as a "warm color", while blue is a "cool color". So, in other words, yelow had pros and cons, that weigh out equally to most people, hence why its still used commonly. It also depends on the hue and shade of yellow. If you stare at a screen emmiting only neon yellow color, you will burn your eyes out of their sockets. However, if you look at a darker yellow with some red mixed in it to make it closer to orange, then that's less annoying. ~~~~~ WELCOME BACK MOTHER GOOSE!

Yoder: Yeah, the darker the color, the easier it is to look at. Yellow is difficult in particular as it can trigger both highly positive and highly negative emotions. I'm kind of afraid to use it too much, so I try to avoid a yellow motif when I paint (which is almost never these days), but as you said, a darker shade is usually a safe bet.
You seem to know your stuff; are you an artist as well?
Mou: Well, you won't start feeling angry at random if you stare at a yellow wall for too long, and depending on what else is in the area (the blue accessories, perhaps), any negative effects of the yellow may be dampened. Involved stimuli are also a large factor. I assume your summer room is a place of relaxation, so there's not too much that'd set you off in there. But say, hypothetically speaking, you had a bright yellow kitchen or dining room, it might be a different story; a conflict between family members would probably be more likely to start a shouting match.
I learned emotional triggers in various art and design classes, and went a bit more in depth on color psychology in my psych class. At that point, I was pretty interested, so I started researching on my own. If you get the chance, ask an artist (or psychologist) about the psychology of colors, it's really useful stuff.

Aisling, I don't really know you, but I'm going to run with the crowd and say "welcome back" anyhow.
Welcome back!

No-one wants to speak to me. It's like I'm God, I exist but I only hear prayers of 'who cares' or 'whatever'. I'd be a cool God then, I'd smoke dope with Jesus(if I started the habit again), and shoot the moon with Judas. Then I could make some bath-tub moonshine with Peter and sell it to Isaac.
