Maia grinned at the two guys. "See, I told you he'd never see it coming," she said, glancing to Dari. "We win! Should we have a round two?" Maybe they'd go easier on Toby this time. Maybe even let him win. He did so love to win. She wrapped her arms around Toby's shoulders. "Flawless, huh?"

Dari remained underwater, wrapping around Toby's legs. The werewolf stumbled and spit water from his lips.
"Get offa me, you jellyfish!" he shouted, all in good humor. Bubbles rose as Dari repressurized and came up smiling.
"It's like being attacked by a sex doll."
"A high quality one," Dari said, raising a finger.
"...I guess." He shook the water from his hair again and put a hand on Maia's arm. "I thought it was a sound plan. Apparently not."

"Want to try again?" she asked. "I'll be on your team now, if you like," it was clear Dari could handle things on his own. She wasn't sure what a sex doll was, but it certainly wasn't in the top ten questions she wanted to ask list. Or even the top one hundred questions. "We can come up with a great plan."

Toby shook his head and put his other hand on Maia's arms as well. "I'd rather just swim. We could use the ball?" He was referring to the inflatable beach ball back in a bag on the beach. They could just try to keep to up or...something, who knew? He wasn't feeling especially aggressive tonight.

Maia was surprised by that answer. Huh. Toby didn't want to compete. "We can swim," she agreed, but she didn't move. "Dari, want to go get the ball?" She asked.

Toby nodded. He would have gone to get it--
Nope! Dari was happy to leave them together. He swam to shore and grabbed the ball, filling it with his lungs and bringing it back by tossing it at the pair. Toby reached up to catch it.

Maia smiled as Toby reached and caught the ball, only letting go of him to reach for it herself. It was nice, having the lake to themselves. And even though they weren't competing, it was fun! "How long can we keep it out of the water?" she wondered.

Toby almost made a comment about circus seals and balls but thought it might be culturally insensitive. Instead he bopped the ball slightly toward Maia and began to back away. Dari too was putting some distance between them. It was a simple game, a group activity with no end goal, and it seemed like a rather pleasant way to spend the evening.

Maia bopped the ball to Dari. How late could they stay? Toby had work tomorrow. Dari too. And she had classes. Bleh. Oh well. Those things didn't matter. They were having fun!

They played with the ball for quire some time, lunging and diving and setting and breaking record after record. Eventually Toby started feeling a chill and the group made it back to the beach where they laid out an enormous beach blanket, the same as always, and laid down to watch the stars.

Maia laid herself between the two guys, slightly closer to Toby. "Are you still cold?" she asked, offering him her towel. Dari was temperature immune so he didn't need it. And the water had been fine for her.

"No, I'm fine," Toby assured the selkie, not at all uncomfortable that she was so close. Dari had no problem either, but then he had openly held her while she slept before. The starts were a little less bright here probably due to the nearby town. Out in the desert there was nothing for miles.

"Alright," Maia focused her attention on the sky. "They were brighter the other night," she said. "But just as beautiful." And watching them with friends made it so much better. Could they watch them together next month? She doubted it.Dari would be working.
"Do you know the star's names, Dari?"

"Not all of them, no." After all, these stars were well out of his system, and if he lingered too long in thoughts of outer space he started to creep down into a darker place.
Toby meanwhile rolled and leaned over Maia, dug into the bag, pulled out his cell phone, tapped an app, and held his phone to up the sky. Constellations were mapped. Stars could be clicked for names. It was all real-time, real imaging. He passed it to Maia.
"I was always really bad at that sort of thing," he admitted.

Maia took the proffered phone and held it up to the sky. She was amazed by the phones ability to know where they were to map the stars. She beamed. "How does it do that?" she asked. "Knowing their names doesn't make them any more beautiful," she told Toby, offering the phone back.
