"That is very true," Earendil agreed. "Though she does seem to have her hands full with him, doesn't she?" He laughed. "Poor little guy ... he wishes he were bigger so much ..."

He had no idea the life the boy had lived before coming to the Borderlands, but he imagined it wouldn't be very good ...

"I'm sure he'll keep the knowledge," Earendil mused, "he would just have to get used to a different grip on his quill. Still, he strikes me as a bright enough boy, I'm sure he would get it."

He smiled. "I suppose we can say that no matter what happens, we can be sure that life will be interesting."

Kelirahc was trying to explain to Miyuki at the moment how to float by filling her lungs with air to make herself more buoyant. Unfortunately, her tails added a dead weight which made it difficult for her to float very well, and he was trying to figure a way around it.

"Poor Miyuki," Earendil murmured softly to Lin. "She looks a bit frustrated, I think."

Earendil bit his lip anxiously. "I hope she doesn't get too upset," he murmured. "She tends to get a bit ... vindictive when she gets upset, and this is something that really is no one's fault ..."

Kelirahc was at a loss. He really had no idea how to help Miyuki, except that she strengthen her tails somehow and use them to help her, instead of having them as dead weights.

"I'm not sure," Earendil murmured, worried now. He knew Miyuki tended to take things very personally.

Kelirahc ran his fingers through his hair and sighed to himself. There was simply nothing he could think of to help Miyuki - and the problem would only get worse as she grew, and grew more tails.

"I do not know how to help you," he said softly, sadly, looking down at Miyuki. "If there were a way to keep your tails dry ... or if they were strong enough to help you swim ... but as it is, it would be dangerous for you to swim. I am sorry, Miyuki."

Earendil nodded. "Good idea. Maybe also a good idea to remind her that you can't swim because of your wings, either, so she's not the only one."

He rose to his feet and held out one hand to Lin to help her up. "I'll come with you."


Amalirahc looked alarmed, and he hugged Miyuki tightly. "Aw, Miyuki, don't cry," he said anxiously. "Not everyone can do everything!"

Earendil was right behind Lin, and he didn't hesitate to head into the water after her.

"Miyuki, are you all right?" he asked anxiously.

Earendil put one hand on Miyuki's sodden head. "You and Kaito are two different beings," he told her gently. "You can't expect to be like him, just like you can't expect to be like elves or angels or ... there are just differences both in appearance and ability."
