What d'yall think of a troop based WB army, it would have probably two squads of flesh hounds, and the rest basic troopers. Most trooper squads would have heavy bolters, but heavy stubbers and missile launchers will be in there too, and probably plasmas or flamers as special weapons. The heavy support would consists of Obliterators really, the others are tanks if I remember rightly. And about 3 squads would maybe be made of CCW/BP men with flamers in the squads and would be mounted in Rhinos. HQ would be a Daemon Prince and Luitenant.
I can't really give much details as such as I haven't worked it out. But, just your general thoughts would be good.

Sounds good! Obliterators are Elites, but since you listed no other Elite choices, I think you're okay. More tanks that way anyhow. biggrin

Ah, they are? Well that's ok I guess.
But I if you read again, you'll notice I said troop based, so, no tanks.
I think I'll use Havoc Squads and Dreads for Heavy Support. I see nothing wrong with Walkers in a troop based army. It's a real shame I disagree with ordnance on table top, 'cause the Defiler is such an ace model.
Also, being Word Bearers with a limit of HS, FA and Elites, I'll probably fill the FA with raptors when I have the money for the models.

Ah, I see. I read "the others are tanks if I recall" as "the other things I chose are tanks if I recall" despite your mention of a troop force.
Anyhow, good stuff all around. I'd probably consider walkers acceptable in a "troop" force too. Perhaps that's just desire for mecha of the non-anime variety.

Ah thanks for your input. You think it'd be a fight-worthy army? Even against tanked oponents?

There's a 0-1 limit on Obliterators and Raptors unless you're Iron Warriors and Night Lords respectively. I don't think Bikes have a limit for Fast Attack, but Furies or Flesh Hounds might be a good choice too.

Especially as Word Bearers. There is, of course, no obligation to load up on daemons, but it sure is fluffy.

Aye. Well I'd be taking a squad of Raptors and a pack of Flesh Hounds then for FA.

Not a bad choice for FA, not a bike fan I'm guessing.
I was toying around with my Alpha Legion list and it hit me that it might work out a bit better as a LatD army. I still get a Defiler(just arrived last night actually) and a Leman Russ(sadly no Dreadnought because of the list restrictions), and with a full squad of Marines and using a full squad of Cultists helps bolster the army a bit. Still trying to work out the details on how to model my mutants, but the traitors(along with the cultists) I plan on modding up some Cadians, but use Alpha Legion's subterfuge a bit and make them and the Marines look like Imperial forces(but keeping with AL's colors). Big mutants I'm also looking into at the moment. Also it should be fun messing with Raptors and other Chaos troops that I don't really get to use with my Thousand Sons.

ColinMackay I'm guessing that the Greater Daemon there is a new Forge World model. In anycase, Chaos has always intrigued me. One of my favorite armies to run are my Thousand Sons. 2 wound troops, sorcerers, what else can you ask for? Well, mobility, fast attack(non-Daemon) and close combat would be nice. I really enjoy my Sons, but I know their weak points, and they have many. Aside from the style, I'd say that I like playing with their many limitations. It's a challenging army to play with and it's always fun trying out new tactics with them. Aside from that, I'm toying with the idea of Alpha Legion(cheap cultists are fun like that), Astral Claws(Red Corsairs), and I'm hoping to help out a buddy of mine with the Lost and the Damned. On the same note, I'm going to target myself by saying that I don't care to play Nurgle, Slaanesh, Khorne, Iron Warriors, Black Legion or Death Guard. I have no problem with playing Word Bearers, I just won't get around to that army for years with my other projects. thousand sons are fun ^_^ i just wish i could have something cheaper to knock out the other players tanks. once my predator is taken out and the deflier the thrall wizards dont hit anything and the pred usauly gets knocked out before it does anything. the deflier hardly ever does anything. i dont like tanks... the betray me...

Is this the concept army? I may be mistaken, but I didn't know that things such as Terminators and Obliterators could be given infiltration. That seems rather... improbable.
Also, as stated above, you cannot have more than one squad of Obilerators in an army unless it's Iron Warriors.

For an army idea I wanted to do with nurgle I intended to use obliterators and teminators in an infiltration based force.
The idea behind this being that they teleport. Perhaps thats what he's thinking?
