Roman had been tempted to offer to go look for the girl as well, but when Chris lost his temper, he assumed that it wasn't a good time. And he had his own sister to look after, all things considered. Though he knew it sounded heartless - and by God, he felt heartless - there was Xavier. The girl had taken her horse. The horse would know how to go home. Summer would be all right. And Esmeralda was his priority right now. She had to be.
So, without a word to either Xavier or Chris, he followed his sister back inside. She was sitting on the floor in the Lotus position, doing some of her basic yoga moves to calm herself. Roman remembered that he'd once teased her about that, and she'd just laughed.
Funny. Nothing seemed like much of a laughing matter anymore.

 Kahlilia woke up with hair looking like a bird's nest and a bright red spot on the sheets. Crap! the girl kept from screaming the word -somehow- as she dug through drawers to find the proper supplies. Once finding them, she cleaned up properly and then was off to shower. It was 6:09 A.M., the time she usually woke up for highschool in the past. Well, for now it might be a good habit to keep.
Ten minutes after entering the building, she walked out with damp hair and a -once again- self-conscious attitude. In her haste to find feminine products, she had forgotten to take a change of clothes with her. Thus, she was jogging slightly towards her cabin with only a towel on. Thank God no one else was awake right now ...
Xavier eased awake, letting one arm rest around Summer's torso. It seemed that both had fell asleep in a cuddle, and he really didn't mind at all. Trying to be gentle and trying to let the girl sleep, he reached out with the other hand and stroked her gorgeous red-orange hair. Maybe this was what it was to be in love.
And so, as Xavier absentmindly pet Summer, last night came back like a movie film. Well, this should be fun to deal with. Fun and exciting.
But of course, in the peace that a pleasant sleep brought, there was no sudden gut wrenching or scowling. Just loose, slightly detached thoughts.

Summer awoke to fell someone stroking her hair. She looked over and realized it was Xaiver. She stretched and then smiled up at him as she looked over at him. She suddenly realized where she was and the events of yesterday and last night came into her mind. She recalled how she had rode out of the ranch yard without telling anyone, she also remembered how Shadow had found the way home again. "Good morning." She said to him as she just laid there.
Chris woke up to find that he had fallen asleep in Thunder's stall. He looked around and noticed that Shadow was back in the stables and wondered when the horse had gotten in and who had put her up. He also wondered where Summer was at and if she was ok.

Roman stirred awake in the chair in his room. Remembering why, he hastily looked across to the bed. Esmeralda was curled up in his bed, the blankets tangled around her into a big pile. He sighed wearily. She looked like a child herself, way too young to have another growing in her.
And Dev was dead. Maybe that was all to the best, as their dad was going to break out his shotgun when Ez told him - if she intended to at all.
Getting cautiously to his feet and tiptoeing out so as not to wake his sister, he shut the door quietly behind him. He'd noticed that she wasn't wearing her necklace, the one with the ring on it. He knew she would panic if she woke and didn't have it, especially if it was all she had for the kid to know of its father when...well, when. Easier on them both if he just went to get it for her.
So he left the room, heading up the hill toward Ez's room. On the crest of the hill, however, he froze and went pale. Kahlilia was coming towards him, probably heading to her room, in nothing but a towel. He stared at her awkwardly for a second or two, then, still white with embarrassment, he hurriedly turned away and went into Esmeralda's room.

Kahlilia's assigned room was maybe five doors away from Esmeralda's, but sometimes she forgot. And naturally, she had forgotten again until she saw Roman. She was completely unaware of the small spat that had gone on last night, or the fact that Esmeralda was with child. So, in this instance she was sort of peacefully oblivious.
Upon seeing Roman, Kahlilia flushed quickly. Well damn it, this was just wonderful. Yeah, just perfect.
Uh ... g-good morning! I ... was just going to ... get dressed ... yeah.
And so, with that amazingly akward greeting, the girl entered her room and closed the door.
Soon as the door was closed, she felt an urge to face-slap or something. However, she just whispered a curse or two and got dressed. Menustration brought the rival of skin to her body -cellulite- and so she changed into long jeans and a pretty green and white shirt. Then, she put on her makeup - dashes of mascara and neutral brown liner - and tied her hair in a sleek, high ponytail. Last, she freed her bangs from the updo and secured in several tiny bobby pins.
When she exited her room again, Kahlilia had seemed to acquire a bit more confidence. Well, that was pretty much a given - she wasn't half naked anymore.
Lily began to walk towards the barn calmly, her pink high tops crunching on the dirt in what would probably become a familiar way. As she entered the barn, she felt like there were already others in here. Becoming self-conscious again, Lily slowly cleaned Benvolio's water bucket and fed him. Then it was off to do the same in Kelly's stall - she loved both horses as though she were assigned to both instead of just Benvolio. And then there was Ariel, the gorgeous little foal. She truly loved this ranch.
Xavier smiled at Summer, continuing to stroke her hair gently. Good morning, he replied easily, Are you feeling better?
Xavier knew that she had been very upset last night, and in truth he still felt a pang of concern for her. Last night, he had decided to take refuge here in the hayloft - and then a soaking wet Summer had joined him. He remembered feeling very protective of her at that time, and maybe he still sort of was. Maybe he was just paranoid now, but he couldn't be sure.
Sitting up after a moment or two, Xavier looked lovingly at the girl beside him. How was it that their bond was so strong after only a week of being together? Was there such a thing as 'love at first sight'?
God, the drowsiness from sleep was making him feel high.
But that thought was shaken away as quickly as it had come; and Xavier gently placed a kiss on Summer's forehead.
We were worried about you.

Esmeralda had woken when she heard the door close again. Roman had re-entered, and he was very pale. She knew he went white instead of red when he was seriously embarrassed, and any other time she would have teased him about it mercilessly. But it wasn't the time.
When he held out his hand, re-secured the slender chain around her neck, she smiled sadly up at him. No words were spoken. They didn't have to speak to understand what was being said. Silently, he clasped his little sister's shoulder in a silent show of support. "I'm going out to the barn," he said quietly. "You want me to look in on Sahara too?"
She shook her head, getting slowly to her feet. She'd fallen asleep in her clothes, so there was no worry about getting changed. She'd change later. Might as well get barn dirt on stuff she was going to wash anyway. "I'll do it," she said. "It'll help take my mind off...things."
Roman wanted to ask her if she was sure, if that was a good idea, considering. But she had a quietly set look on her face that told him that any discussion would be useless. Esmeralda's mind was made up. Mountains would get up and run before she would change it now. Instead, he nodded. "Let me know if you need any help," he said simply.
Esmeralda smiled at her brother. As she'd known - okay, hoped and prayed - he would, he was standing by her. Sure, he was going to be treating her like she was made of glass for the next several months, but it still eased all the fear and all the pain a little bit that he knew. She wasn't alone anymore.
The siblings went out to the barn together. Upon entering it, Roman saw Kahlilia and his face, which had been returning to its normal colour, paled again. He glanced away fast and went straight into Phoenix's stall, where the stallion received him with a whinny and much nuzzling. Smiling to herself - so that was it - Esmeralda gave Kahlilia an easy nod, her usual amusing, charming mask slipping effortlessly into place. "Morning," she said, before passing the girl to go to Sahara's stall.

Kahlilia was standing in Ben's stall, checking his coat, when she saw Roman and Esmeralda. Good morning, she chirped, trying to ward off her huge embarrassment of being seen half-naked. She hoped it wouldn't put a damper on anything. Everybody had humiliating moments, right?
Eh, maybe this would be gone by tommorow. Or even today, if the day turned out to be good. The remnants of storm clouds still hung in the sky like cotton balls, but the sun was starting to come out again. It looked slightly overcast, but at least there wasn't any more thunder or lightning. What a strange storm it had been last night ...
At least it was finally over. Maybe for now.
Shaking her head, Lily decided to clean Ben's hooves today. He gave her a look when she got out the supplies, but didn't do much else. However, he was very flinchy when she cleaned his back hooves. There was a lot of gunk in some of the crevices, so in that case the girl tried to be gentle. For all she knew, it was like cutting the pink parts off of fingernails.
It took a long time for Lily to finish, but both the stallion and the girl were relieved when the job was done. Finally, Ben's hooves were cleaned of some undescribable gunk and that meant it would be easier for him to walk around - she thought. -
She exited the stall with hay going from her feet to her knees, and a bit of blush from the oncoming heat. Before leaving the barn altogether, she checked up again on the trio - Ben, Kelly, and Ariel. They had a lot of water to last them if they became bothered by the heat, and maybe later they could ride to the river or something for a drink. Of course, if the river wasn't all mud and debris from the storm.

Summer sat up and smiled at him. She was really glad she had climbed the hayloft last night. She was also glad that she had been able to get back to the barn. She couldn't have done it without Shadow. Suddenly a sharp pain went through her wrist. "Yes I'm fine but I think I sprained my wrist last night." She then kissed his cheek and asked, "You where worried about me? And whose we?"
Chris got up and started to clean out Thunder's stall. He then started to see to his horse, first grooming him then cleaning out his hoofs. He then feed the horse and walked out of the stall. He looked around and spotted Esmeralda in Sahara's stall. He walked toward the horses stall and poked his head in, "Hey, how's it going?" he asked her. "Listen I just wanted to say sorry about last night, I don't get mad easily but I was worried about my sister."

Esmeralda's dark eyes flickered to him, her gaze cool and measuring. She took a minute before answering as she checked Sahara's hooves again to ensure that no dirt had escaped her earlier cleaning. Satisfied that it had not - Sahara had probably never had a more thorough cleaning in her life - she glanced up again, shrugged. "It's fine." She was still very cold towards Summer (and by extension, Xavier and Chris) because of the girl's use of her suffering to learn what she wanted to know. At least, that was how Esmeralda saw it. Hers was a soul that reveled in vengeance, and if someone didn't straighten her out soon, Summer might be in for some problems. She might anyway - Esmeralda was not happy that she'd been spied on.
Finishing her thought, she said quietly, "I know how it is. I have a brother of my own."
As she said this, she noticed Roman casually coming over to slip into the stall past Chris. He was dirty - obviously he had finished taking care of Phoenix and had taken the horse out to pasture. "Need a hand?" he asked his sister, his gaze dropping surreptitiously to her stomach. It was a gentle reminder that maybe she ought to take it easy.
Esmeralda smiled at her brother, wondering how she would ever have gotten along without him. "No," she replied. "I'm good. I just need to take Sahara out, and then I'm pretty much done for the morning." That said, she reached out of the stall for Sahara's halter.
Satisfied, Roman went back to Phoenix's stall to ensure he hadn't missed anything. He'd probably meet up with Kahlilia later for another ride - maybe he could take Phoenix jumping again - but for now, he'd let the horse play. They could both use the break.

Chris noticed the cool gaze she gave him and wondered what he had done if anything. "Do you have something against me?" He asked her as he leaned against the stall door. He smiled at her, and didn't take offense to the way she had looked at him for he was used to it. He noticed Roman and nodded to him said, "Good morning, sorry about last night," he then turned his attention back to Esmeralda.
