Gamma Eight did not flinch. The reaper clearly enjoyed taunting them, so why give it the satisfaction of seeing a reaction? Her concern was no longer for the pendant. Her concern was for her life, and the lives of her team. The pendant she would relinquish, especially considering it made the owner a huge target.
She did scream, however.
She screamed in anger and struck out again.

{ Theta Nine is healing himself. That selfish git! }
The problem with trying to beat the tar out of the hooded figure was that it brought him way too close to those twin daggers. He saw them flash toward him, but try as he might, he just couldn't get out of the way fast enough. The cut of the knives bit deep, causing a pained hiss to escape between gritted teeth. The sound seemed to echo in his mind. He stumbled backwards, barely careful enough to avoid collisions with the other players charging toward the hooded figure.
"He hits hard," he warned the others, even as he tugged out bandages. An appraising glance -- triage, a mind raised on ER films reminded him -- went to Imani, the first attacker to get injured, then to his own. He decided to wind the first stretch of bandages around his injuries. His movements were less than expert, but they'd have to do. "I can't be the only medic in this place." One of the swords had been using his fists until he borrowed his partner's stake, he recalled. He gazed toward Zeta Seven. "We can work together to keep the others' injuries from getting too serious. Please." That "please" sounded way too desperate for his liking. He bit back on the rising desperation. "You in?"
The rule change worried him, though. Maybe they should just have the shields going in for hits for a while, though if the shields took their swords' damage, it'd be much less trouble to heal, and perhaps --
Right then, Tattoo's battle speech finally sank in. He shook his head. "No way! It's less work to heal shields than to heal swords." For attacks aimed toward the sword, at least. No one had put the new rule change to the test just yet. Speaking of which, he tacked on, "Focus!" And back he went toward the fray, even if he was certain by now that this was a colossally bad idea for him. Snuggieman -- a mental snicker bubbled up at the name, despite everything -- knew he was the one who instigated this whole rebellion.

"He means," Fedora stated as a matter of factly, standing right beside the Reaper now, speaking a low voice, "that we will settle it without death or bloodshed. I know for a fact that three of us are above that, and we have each other's backs." She turned her face towards him slightly, all seriousness in her eyes -- that is, if he could see past the mask. She was almost like a predator, waiting for her prey to die out, her body poised to attack -- or defend, if it came to that. If she even could.
"Now, your turn. Why is it that you find us so intriguing? And I don't mean just you... I mean all of you. I have a feeling we're being tested, outside of the games as well as in."
Delta Four is WAITING.

Spattered with blood, Gamma Eight suddenly... stopped. She looked down at her bloodies stake and wiped some of the red liquid from her cheek. She... she had made a horrible mistake. She was killing someone.
...but he had been trying to get them to kill each other! She was bleeding too!
Conflict was rife, but she had already made her move.

Imani puffed up angrily. “It’s not for blood! We is protecting our own! We’d rather protect each other now and live a little longer than strut some bling! I don’t want no pendant- I don’t care. It ain’t do nothin’.”

"What a shame that not all of you feel the same way," the figure said to Fedora. His head swung to stare at the person who'd kept attacking. It seemed a cease-fire was out of the question, then.
"Hmmm, you are an intelligent one, aren't you?" he said to Fedora. He'd deal with stab-happy over there in a moment. "Unfortunately my lips are sealed. But you do remember what you were told in the classrooms, right?"
The voice there had clearly said they were being tested. But that not all of them would be passing. Deaths were to be expected. The remaining humans couldn't hope to not lose anyone else - or hadn't the same voice in the classroom told them that they would all die if there were too many people alive on the final day?
People just weren't listening, were they?
"If this is a test," he said, "what do you think happens when you refuse to take part? Hint: it's certainly not passing."
So saying, he struck out at Gamma Eight, almost as an afterthought.

(( η XI is attacking Reaper!))
Passing? And what was ‘passing’? Was it death, or was it life? What was the goal for these reapers and beings? Oh well, Imani didn’t have the philosophical prowess for that sort of stuff. “We don’t need yo’ dumb necklaces!”
And with that, he rushed forward with his stake.

"There are different ways to take tests," Fedora replied, her head rising in defiance. "And different ways to pass. One must simply think out of the box. So yes, I consider myself intelligent. I do remember. But most of all, I am wary." She paused, holding her dagger up. "I am wary of you, and I do not trust you. I believe that is a wise choice." So saying, she raised the dagger, and slashed at him, letting out an annoyed noise. "There are more ways to pass than one."

Was this thing not going to give up the pendant? Was she making more enemies in attacking it? It had struck her, though. The blades had split her flesh, and she found she suddenly didn't care if she died attacking this beast. She would rather die with its blood on her hands than that of her fellow number-with-suits. It had hit her back, and she had no option but to defend herself if she wanted to survive.
only thirteen, thirteen
Her strike out was, however, less passionate, almost a graze.

( LALALALA LONG WINDED REPLY sorry Kali ; x ; )
Blinking as she was addressed, Theta-two stepped forward as soon as the attacks had ended, so that the reaper and her were directly face to face. She smiled grimly behind the mask, an ugly expression that she wore with no fear of being seen. To be honest, she didn't know the answer to that question. She hadn't thought that far ahead. "It won't be a fight to the death. Not if I cant help it." She said. She glanced at the pendant, and then back at the other, as though trying to peer at the person beneath the hood. "I know that the pendants, the tickets to survival, turn all of us into savages. Most of the people here are probably fighting for their lives right now. And for the people they want to protect the most. I don't pretend to know their stories or their morals, or what they'll do to all of us afterwards if one of us manages to get the pendant." She gestured to the side, to Thyme and Fedora. "But really, its a lose-lose situation either way, isn't it? With or without the pendant? If we'd continued the game, I might have hurt Gamma. Afterwards, Zeta Seven wouldn't have hesitated to kill me. It wouldn't be any different for him if I'd won the pendant instead and Gamma was still alive. They need it to survive. They would need me dead to get it. They need you dead right now to stop the game that could potentially kill them in the end." She paused, and took a breath.
"No matter what the end result is, whether we deal with the pendant later, or dont get a pendant at all and someone dies, a fight to the death might very well happen. Because we all have emotions, and people to protect." Tilting her head, Theta-two laughed slightly. She was getting off topic. She was rambling again. "I don't know how we're going to deal with it. I don't know at all, and I don't pretend to. Theres no black and white here, no one person who's the villain, and one who's the hero that deserves to survive. But you're wrong if you think that I'm refusing to fight now so that I can kill you, and then take out the others in a few moments time." She thrust her hands to both sides, knowing that she was both contradicting and cryptic. That she'd gotten off subject, that she'd run away from the original question. "I will protect my teammates no matter the cost. I don't want that pendant if it means taking away someone else's chance, especially if its Thyme, or Fedora. Bones even." She gestured to Gamma and Zeta. "Or any of them. Maybe I'll die in the end. Maybe you'll kill me right now. But I can tell you, without a doubt, that I will fight to protect my team, but I will not kill for something as materialistic as a pendant, because I know that it will save someone else." She turned her head to the people fighting next to her. "And I dont mind if they will kill, because they all deserve to live. But maybe some of them will think of a way out of a fight to the death over the pendant. We're all flawed. We're all ******** up. But at least we're not trying to kill each other anymore because a guy in a cloak tells us to."
End rant. ********. End rant, end rant damn it. Stepping back, she glared at the Reaper through her mask. "Is that satisfactory for you, teacher? Or have I gotten off subject?"
The others were attacking again, but she wasn't. Not yet. She wanted to hear what he had to say.

Zeta Seven is attacking dat cloak!
"You know what? Screw you, and your pendants." zeta seven was at the point of seething as he gripped the butt of his gun for dear life. "From the beginning, we were told that these shiny baubles were the key to salvation, that they could save us. However they have been the source of our undoing." He ranted, never setting his eyes off the matte fabric covered individual. "Sure, some of us may die, but at least if won't be for your enjoyment as a spectator!" These things had some nerve, treating them like this, and Seven was sick of it.
"A pox on that damn pendant, its not necessary to make it to the end."
Theta Seven had his ear as he called out to him. He was right, he can't have been the only medic in this fight. "I know, we need to work together against him, but i can't heal." he told him with a frown "Until this silly gun can shoot bandage bullets, I'm not sure I can aid in that except give you all some cover." He paused as he thought about not too long ago when he was taking damage from their attacks. This soul who came to him for help, that he almost killed in cold blood. It made him feel sick with his own actions. "If its any consolation, I'm very sorry about striking you."
The figure was spouting more babble as he turned his blade upon Gamma Eight.
"Eight! Get your filthy paws off her b*****d!" He couldn't take react any faster as he let out a barrage of bullets at it.

The attacks resumed, all the humans rushing the hooded figure. There were more strikes than he could count. When they drew back, the figure took a step forward on shaky legs. One crumpled beneath him, the figure going down to one knee.
"You... idiots," he gasped out. One hand clutched at his chest. Was he bleeding? It was impossible to see against the inky black of his cloak. "How has it... come to this?"
The pendant glinted in his hand.
The figure collapsed forward. "So it is here... that I... die?"
All was silent.
"Juuuuuuust kidding!" The figure leapt back to his feet, the pendant disappearing inside his cloak. He laughed in their faces. "Did you think I was actually going to die? From that? From you?"
He scoffed. What high ideals this group had. What honor! What friendship! ... What utter dreck. They were completely ignorant of what was going on here, or what it would actually take to win this 'test'. No one was going to survive by refusing to do what was necessary.
"Sorry kiddos, looks like you don't pass my test. Do not pass Go, do not collect any pendants... Too bad. Some of you have interesting ideas. And some of you are just going to die so that others can live, it seems."
He eyed Fedora and Theta Two. He couldn't quite place which group those two belonged to.
A portal appeared behind the hooded figure. Stepping backwards, he added, "Word to the wise, kids... Get used to following the rules. The big test isn't one you can cheat on."
With that, the hooded figure disappeared, the portal closing behind him.
If the group looked for their medkits, they would find them exactly where they were previously. Had the figure really stolen them and returned them? Or had they been there all along?
Sadly, there was no pendant left behind today. All they had to show for their time were a few extra wounds, and some rather confusing words from someone that may or may not have been trustworthy.
(( Sorry guys, reducing the figure's HP to 0 just means he leaves! D: Game over! ))

Gamma Eight rushed forward immediately and grabbed her medkits, but left the others. She hugged them to her chest and then tucked them back into her bag, breathing hard. She didn't want to kill people. Monsters, fine, but people? To see blood spattered all over her bright olive suit... it was horrible. She fell to her knees, threw her arms over her head, and found herself crying. The heat and damp within her mask began to get unbearable, and for just a moment she forgot that there were teams.
She had thought she was alone, and others had leaped to her aid. What was this horrible game? Did she want to win if it meant having others' blood on her hands?
Giving a final, tortured sound she stood again and adjusted her bag. What now? Would red-Seven turn on her? Would they all? How about the ones who had so desperately wanted the pendant? She looked to Gamma 12 and to red-Seven and heaved a sigh.
