"Music, huh?" Leon considered this, letting the idea roll of his tongue. "It is true that I've never heard you play before." He had once or twice wandered past the respective classroom, searching for his classmate while left without amusement. By the time he came by, however, things were always being wrapped up and he rarely heard anything he could identify as part of the girl's practice session. He more often heard the soft, muffled voices from inside the room, a case shuffled about so the instruments could be properly put away. Leon had not bothered adding the class to his daily schedule, having already learned on his time and with only vague instructional books to guide him how to play the piano, as well as the flute and a stringed instrument he couldn't quite remember the name of - he had found it boring after mastering the first two. Sometimes his natural intelligence made things rather dull, an unfortunate side effect and the very reason he so often found himself without proper entertainment. He no longer felt interested in playing, but listening? That was different. He had to admit, he was curious to see what these two could do with their instruments, what sounds they could create. He might have been privately challenging them, saying, "Impress me if you can, I'd be delighted at the change of pace." But of course saying so aloud would contradict the friendly disposition he presented to others and so he kept this strictly to himself.

Well, Saya was a toy he had yet to figure out, and Raelyn was constant puzzle, if on a smaller level. Being around them gave him something to do, and then he would be further amused with their playing, whether it turned out to be astounding, average, or less pleasant to the ear (which he somehow doubted by their apparent passion for the hobby; he had already figured something out about the two of them). His mind was made up then.
"I would like to join you, if you truly don't mind." He wasn't forceful enough to intrude, should the girl change her mind about his invitation. "I haven't had the chance to leisurely listen to a good performance in a long time." There. The manipulative little touch of pressure from a young man whose smile held no intimations of the thoughts going on behind those handsome eyes.

What he had not expected was the textbook thrust into his hand, which he balanced in one arm while his free hand was suddenly grabbed. Leon wanted to protest, wanted to tell this rash girl how improper the gesture was. He had lived in the same judgmental society Saya had, had grown up with all the same pressures and expectations. He courted - never with serious intention, mind you - enough to know how young women must act, and this girl followed not one of these guidelines. In this aspect, Raelyn was ideal. She was easy on the eyes and soft spoken. At a ball, she might very well attract quite a bit of flattering attention. He would not to alter that. Another man could not sweep in and take up his toy before he's done figuring her out. That simply was not fair, it was not how the game was played. That issue would be saved until later though, when Saya was not jogging off with the two of them in tow. Leon chuckled at this, already amused by her. A girl who wore her hair down, elected the dress of another culture entirely, and who cared not for the modest characteristics of the popular women at the time. Intriguing, truly. A change to the women who sought only to impress him as well. Raelyn did not particularly go out of her way to do that either though, another small similarity, and perhaps the last one, they shared.
"Looks like we will be staying outside." Leon looked over at Raelyn with another amused little laugh, wondering then how she was holding up. The two girls would prove to be a fun pair, with their opposing mannerisms and personalities. He did not see them feuding, but watching Raelyn's reactions would be fun on its own.

When the girl leading them slowed to a stop, Leon removed his hand from hers and faced both of his temporary companions. He handed the textbook back to the girl who might have little interest in perusing it later, but one could not be sure with her. It appeared that she would have to fetch her instrument, so Leon glanced over at Raelyn once again.
"What piece have you been working on, Raelyn?" He inquired innocently, wanting to see whether or not the piece was a classic, difficult, or plain boring by his standards, among other levels of classification.

Macideus
No one ever calls him Micky D's to his face.

Macideus shook his head as Saya didn't wait for his answer and dashed off with the pair in tow. He would have said yes anyways since the only reasons he suggested teh music room in the first place was because it was at realyn's request. So really she was basically saying no to Realyn for him when that was also a yes. He considered lecturing her about it later but decided to let it go. She seemed to be recovering from whatever had made her so depressed and for now that was sufficient. So he about faced and made his way up to the ediface. Walking into the hall of classrooms he made his way to practice room. He mulled over some of her words.

"Catch insanity? I haven't heard that said since before I came here as a student."

He mused out loud to himself as he walkeddown the halls to the practice room.

Raelyn decided to avoid the conversation while Saya spoke with the teacher, not wanting to argue with his choice. It was true that she had originally intended to use the room for practice, not wanting to stick out by playing elsewhere. It wasn't uncommon for people to use it as a source of attention, and that was far from how she wanted to present herself. Instead of helping Saya convince Macideus, she faced Leon and continued to speak to him instead. "I suppose you haven't, have you?" she answered, unsure if his response actually held any interest in listening, or if he was simply stating a fact. She'd gotten had managed to get somewhat used to his way of conversation, so part of her didn't really expect a straight answer, and no part of her expected a happy one. As she spoke she only occasionally made eye contact with the boy. Raelyn was often shy in a crowd, but when she was spoken to, she rarely avoided eye-contact. The problem with Leon was that if she let herself linger too long on that, she would eventually catch herself staring. Something about his appearance, was in deed striking, she didn't know a single girl who would deny it, but she'd seen too many of them sit and stare to let herself be so rude.

"Oh no, I really don't mind, I just wouldn't want to bore you." she said, giving a friendly smile, "You are notoriously hard to entertain, after- Ah!" Her body tensed up in surprise as Saya grabbed her arm and started running. Her legs started moving if only to keep her from falling over, but her wide-eyed shock gave away how much her body wanted to stay still. She nodded at Leon's comment, but kept the same expression. When Saya reached her destination and gave Raelyn her hand back, she remained still for a second, as if her body were protesting the movement it didn't want a few moments ago. She looked around a bit at the spot Saya had apparently chosen for them, and it seemed like a decent choice. It was open, no hindrance to the fresh air, but a small tree stood nearby, which would give Raelyn something to put her back against while playing.

Her shoulders fell just a bit at Leon's question, and she bit her lip as she looked up at him, unsure of if others would find her project odd.
"It's actually an elfish song...for strength." she answered, her eyes wandering. In her opinion, elves had some of the best music. It wasn't just about sound quality or power, it was full of emotion and spirit. Their culture was rich with good music, songs for every occasion and purpose. She loved it. "I have a weakness for their music, but traditionally, they tend to use flutes and harps. So I wanted to see how my favorite one would sound on strings. She continued, trying not to sound as eager as she might have been. The hard thing about elf music was that it was often played from the heart, so most of their race's early works weren't actually written down in a traditional way. But from what there was to see and from her ear she'd managed to translate the song onto her cello. But the other half of the effect she hoped to achieve would be a more spontaneous harmony from a higher instrument, something that would give the song true life.

"Sorry, I just need to go get my cello, I'll be right back." She said, quickly remembering that the instrument was in her room as she hurried past Leon towards her dormitory. She didn't run a pace comparable to the one that Saya had made her go with, but she jogged just a little, not wanting to keep poor Leon waiting. The girl was naturally quick and good on her feet, so an easy jog seemed like safe pace. She hopped up the stairs equally quick and headed into her room. It was still midday, and nice out, so the room was unsurprisingly empty of her roommate as she came in. She grabbed the instrument and bow from where they always sat and turned right back out the door. Her trip back outside was a slight bit slower than her jog in, now having to walk to avoid getting in the way with the equipment she now carried."Ok." She said with a content sigh as she came back to the place and set the instrument case on the ground. Her cello was a little bit bigger than other instruments for carrying, but she enjoyed it too much to care, and it was still easier to tote than some others.

"Elvish, huh?" Leon considered this, his mind going temporarily into hyper-drive behind a perfectly calm expression, only nodding quickly in response to the second girl's self-dismissal (in order to grab her violin, naturally). He was pulling examples from his memory banks, one after another. His mother had been particularly fond of the elven taste in music; it had calmed her during opium-related episodes specifically, as well as during drunk episodes where she became unreasonably miserable or enraged. The music was perfect to act as soothing. It was true that the race - high elves actually, but not all - prided themselves in a remarkable ability to play directly from the stem of their emotions. It was often said that for one to master an elven tune they must resonate with the original musician's feelings completely, or it will only sound like a poorly disguised imitation of something much more grand. That was what made Raelyn's choice interesting. It might there was no way she could NOT reveal something of herself in the music. It also meant that the girl who had requested her company might very well be the perfect partner in practicing - her thoughts were near impossible to read, but she did not seem to be the type to hold back when it came to any sort of emotion, whether it be rage, joy, or sadness. Leon, while able to easily master any instrument, did not have the special touch these girls would when they played. He felt nothing so deeply as to strike awe into his listeners and he revealed nothing of himself, as usual. His playing sounded beautiful and was without error, but because of this, even he would have to admit that he was not the most fun to listen to. Well, he might admit it. If he could erase memory of the incident afterward.

Leon smiled in that charming, half-friendly, half-composed-beyond-reason manner of his. As you may have already guessed, he kept most of his thoughts to himself. To be fair, Raelyn already knew plenty about elven music without the need for him to share his the details he pulled from his information files. Letting her know how much of herself would leak out into the song, at least if properly played, was unnecessary. It might warn her and have a negative effect that worked against Leon's analyzing her. That would ruin a nice chunk of his entertainment and was no at all worth risking. He did share something less harmful to his amusement, however.
"I might have guessed as much. I think Elvish music rather suits you." He appeared thoughtful a moment then nodded as if in agreement with his own statement. "They are not overly zealous pieces, but more soothing and at peace with the surroundings. In touch with both nature and emotion, and without question the most sincere of musicians. . .The more I think about it, the harder it is to imagine your weakness, as you put it, as something else." It sounded complimentary. There wasn't a touch of insult in his observations. But really, to Leon, what sounded like praise were only observations, a means to an end for him.

He might have been left to think to himself for a few minutes then, had not a certain person returned from her errand. Raelyn set off at a leisurely jog just seconds before Saya returned. The short conversation between the lycan and faery had been more than enough time for the kimono-adorning student to fetch her instrument, complete with its protective case. Leon watched her approach with masked curiosity, finding that she hardly regarded him at all, only announced her obvious arrival and set to removing the violin gingerly from the soft cushioned interior of its case. He observed the way she handled this task, noting her strange gentle touch that seemed to contradict everything else about her. This was her passion then, her single most important hobby. Leon was learning quickly, but not quickly enough - still, her expression, her very eyes, kept everyone at arm's length. It was as if she feared someone else reaching her. Curious. He had heard, upon her arrival, that she was b*****d child of a human woman and slyph - perhaps her family had known as much and shut her out? No matter. Those were not the interesting details he sought.

Leon took his position as audience when Raelyn returned, not exchanging words with Saya. Most would have found their silence to be one of an awkward nature, but the two seemed perfectly comfortable in it. The faery was not forced to speak of things he cared little about and the girl was left to her own thoughts as well. Leon fell back, giving Raelyn space from her spot at the tree and watching Saya stand up diagonally from her, leaving the young man situated straight in front of the lycan. He did not sit, but patiently kept on his feet, aware that should this turn out well, it would attract some attention. It was a beautiful day, and many were outside yet.

Needless to say, the girl in the bright kimono was thoroughly relieved to find that they had not been followed or halted. Her assumption had been correct - Macideus would not bother stopping what was harmless to begin with, and he had luckily found it to be as harmless as it was supposed to be. The two who she had lead behind her were taken back by her sudden actions, but that in itself was nothing she was not already used to by this point. Saya was perfectly aware that she was not "normal" and did not act "properly" in accordance to the rules their society set up plainly for them follow. It never bothered her in the least. Rather, it was accept that about her or loathe her for it. Her positions at the Academy was much the same. She was either admired of feared, deemed entertaining and courageous or dangerous and a tad mad. "Sorry about that. I can't stand being stuffed inside." Saya had, however, apologized to the lycan, seeing as how it bothered her even more than the new acquaintance with brown hair and striking features. "I would have gone crazy if Macideus shuffled me back into a closed off room. I hope you don't mind. But it would have been a shame to waste this weather, right?" If the girl was against being out, this would not really convince her to think otherwise, but it was something.

"Ah- I'll go get my instrument then." The young woman excused herself abruptly, just after arriving at their destination. They were only yards from Osamu Hall, in an open space infringed upon only by the not-so-distant wall. Saya did not have far to go because of this, but she left the two at a good run despite this, unable to simply take things slow. She wanted to play and she was clearly excited to do so; it would be the perfect distraction, entirely suited to her tastes and within reason. No one would scold her or take away her violin merely for wanting to play it. She would not be sent away to detention or locked up in her dorm with the watchful eyes of a professor keeping her good and grumpy for providing the outdoors with a little music either. Besides that, Saya would get to enjoy the breeze as she played and the sun beat down on them, generously warm and bright. A good day to play outside, without a doubt.

Saya did not take long to grab the black case, and she did not bother trying to locate her personal stand or a play book. This was not about strict practice, but about good fun. Well, on her part anyway. This was important to Raelyn, so she knew she wouldn't be slacking once she joined the lycan again outside. Not that she ever did when it came to music. That would be a insult to her instrument, sheer mockery even. Saya loved playing too much to give anything but her best. Curious to see what exactly it was the girl was going to have her go, Saya hurried back as quickly as she left, and when she did so she found herself standing alone with a near stranger, Raelyn presumably off to fetch her cello. If only they could summon them when they wanted to exercise the musician inside them both. It would have been far more convenient.

Saya said nothing to Leon, and he said nothing to her. Instead, she set the case carefully on the ground and set to removing the treasure it held. She paused once during this task, the violin half out and held crookedly in the air as a soft wind blew over the campus. Only then did Saya close her eyes and take it in, letting the breeze sink to her very core, the wind whispering encouragement to let herself go with it. This was natural for her, really, but might alarm some of her professors. Should the young woman ever decide to let the wind take her, it might just do that literally. But that was unlikely, given her stubbornness. Just floating off was out of the question. So Saya opened her eyes, comforted by a feeling she could not describe in words, and she found Raelyn standing among the small trio again. Time to get to work then. Standing and casting the case aside with a little nudge of her foot, Saya held her violin in one hand and her bow in the other, watching the lycan before raising the instrument to it's proper place beneath her chin, though her form was slack while still waiting instructions.
"So what exactly do you want me to play?" Raelyn did not have even music sheets with her, nor a stand, but that only meant it was a piece she either had memorized or was not based off the strict following of cords and notes. Since it might very well have been the latter, Saya found her curiosity sparked, eager to find out what her part in this song would be.

Where's your gavel? Your jury? // What's my offense this time? // You're not a judge but if you're gonna judge me
Well, sentence me toanother life

Well, you treat me just like another stranger // Well, it's nice to meet you, sir // I guess I'll go, I best be on my way out

This is the BEST THING that could've happened // Any longer and I wouldn't have made it
It's not a war, no, it's not a rapture // I'm just a person but you can't take it

The same TRICKS that, that once fooled me // They won't get you anywhere // I'm not the same kid from your memory
Well, now I can fend for myself

Din couldn't help but smirk at Tack's offer to help him with the door."Yea, " he muttered, turning away from the wall he'd just beaten, fists still bloody, "you hold the creaky b*****d, an' I'll hit it."

Stepping away from the wall he shut his eyes for a moment and shook his head, sighing to himself as he flexed and relaxed his hands a few times."Epistre Kalaesi Alathes" he muttered, the ancient words bringing a faint blue light to his arms. The light grew more intense and moved down his arm until it only enveloped his hands, then brightened once more before fading back into his skin. With that, he briefly wiped the blood from his hands inside his shirt, the cuts underneath the red liquid having been sealed as though they were never there. Having fixed up his wounds, he turned back to the other student. "She knows full well I get into fights all the time, this inn't any different. Thinkin' she just got tired of me altogether, an was looking for a reason. Ain't no comin back from that, I've tried before." Despite Din's own opinion, the salamander made sense. If it really was something he'd done wrong, even if it made no sense, then it was fixable. If it wasn't that easy, then Saya really was just like everyone he was comparing her to, but there was still a difference in that she was still here, at least until she found a way to remedy that. When his parents and other caretakers had grown tired of him, it was as easy as sending him off, no arguments. But Saya was still stuck at this school with him, even if she put distance between them, and that was a chance he hadn't had before. Still there wasn't much he could do or say, and the odds of anything working were slim to none if she was as mad as she seemed.

"And in case you haven't noticed, when Saya doesn't want someone in her good graces there's no gettin' in them. But you're right that it's worth a fight." Saya was a friend, nothing more, he was usually too oblivious to sit down long enough to like a girl as anything else. But as a friend she was the most entertaining person for him to be around at the school, and it seemed to make her company even more worth fighting for than if she'd been anything else. Something had spooked her away from him, he just had to find out what. Tack's mention of the sentences he still had to write made his head fall back out with an irritated sigh. Macideus still hadn't come back from taking Saya back, even though Saya herself had had the time to make it back. His 'three minutes' were quickly eating up even more of his day."Where on earth IS the old prof? He's not exactly a slow guy, after all."

Tackeron
My friends call me Tack.

Tackeron laughed a little at Din's response to the joke. Even though he had more or less been at the kid's throat a moment ago he always seemed to mellow out right after a fight, even if, no, especially if he lost, although since they had each landed a solid hit he would chaulk this one up as a draw until farther notice. The idea of going at it again seemed awefully pleasing. He watched Din heal his hands and couldn't help but wonder how exactly he could get himself killed if all he needed to do was put in that quick fix charm. Then again he didn't understand the limitations so it could be that the spell wouldn't be enough.

"Got tired of you? You really think she would have told you she was moving away from you if that was all? If she got tired then she wouldn't have cared to tell you, she woulda gone straight to the teacherman and wouldn't have bothered with you. Nor would she have held you in such high company earlier today nor shown such massive concern after her issue and the fact that she's as pissed as she is now with our little spat is another dead give away. Don't forget she's running fropm this place, leaving it and everyone in it behind. That includes friends, and as I understand it, it usually hurts when you lose friends. As for getting back into her good graces well. Let's just say I will hire myself off as your butler if by the time we graduate you an her ain't friends. Oh and to make this one sweet, if I can't get a date out of her by the end of next month I'll cover your drinks for a month. How's that sound?"

He said with a cocky smile at Din, although he felt like he had forced that second bet out. More to encourage himself than anything else. Of all the girls in the school Saya had quickly become the most interesting. Being generally attractive didn't hurt either.

"You know now that you mention it he has been gone for a while."

As if on cue that very same professor marched into the room. He seemed as stern looking as ever as he observed the blood on his wall and the bits of metal that had dripped from his Bec-De-Corbin. He soon after found said Bec-De-Corbin quite melted. he heaved a sigh and looked to Din. He was a bit torn, make the boy stay for three minutes after waiting so long already or let him go without farther adiue. he couldn't help but feel he would regret his desicion on the subject.

Mister Windsetter, you have waited here long enough you can go."
"And me sir? May I go?"
"What are you talking Mister McCallan? You still have an hour and a half left, or did you forget our deal? Double detention...for two weeks? Does this ring a bell?"
"Yes, sir."

Tackeron heaved a sigh and went to grab a new Bec-De-Corbin. Even though the Naginata's were in every way superior he found himself drawn to the Bec-De-Corbin, there was something about it that made him like it. Macideus stood by overseeing the unfortunate salamander's next hour and a half of practice. It would be grueling, it would be unpleasent, and Tackeon would easily be the most worn out student on campus by the end of the day. Thusts, parries, slashes, stance corrections, stance changes. It was almost the hole week's worth of practice packed into two hours of discomfort for Tackeron McCallan.

Raelyn unpacked her case, happy that the slight show of red had left her cheeks. Leon's comment about her attunement to elvish music had caught her off guard. She appreciated the comment, being told that she fit such beautiful music was a kindness she hadn't heard before, but she hadn't expected her face to flush the way it had. She was happy that it happened just as she had to leave to get her instrument, giving her embarrassment time to wear off. She pulled the cello from its case and set it beside her on it's base. In the case was the stand that would screw onto the bottom, for playing in a chair, but she left it where it was. It was easier to play on the ground outside, and she liked the position more.

"Well, actually...," she answered Saya's question slowly, unsure of whether the girl's interest would change when she told her. "I just need you to play whatever you want...or I guess whatever you feel." it would sound somewhat ridiculous to anyone who didn't play music, but she hoped Saya would understand. Raelyn had memorized the signature melody of the tune, but the improvisation of the song was normally left to the part Saya's instrument would be filling. The two girls were very different, but in regards to music, Raelyn couldn't well imagine someone better to ask to play from the heart. "It's technically in the key of B, so play from that, but if you just listen to me for a measure or two, I'm sure you'll know what to play. Is that alright?"

Hopeful that the girl would accept her challenge, Raelyn took her position to play. She knelt down and sat back on her ankles, straightening her skirt over her knees quickly. taking the cello by its neck, she stood it up just to the left of her knees and let the neck fall back on her left shoulder. Set up properly, she took the bow and began to play. Her left hand formed notes on the strings just above her head while she let her head lean forward musical relaxation. Her eyes closed as the music started to flow from the instrument in her hands, in the traditional otherworldly feel of the elves. After playing a few notes, Raelyn found herself singing the words quietly to herself. Rather than stop, she let the words slowly grow in volume to follow her instrument, giving the song the feel that it was growing, coming slowly out of the earth itself. There were a number of elvish pieces that took this type of rise at the beginning, and it was one of the things that made her like this one. Normally quiet and keeping to herself, Raelyn let herself get pulled into the music, her voice rising to meet the cello. Her normally shy attitude was lost inside one of her favorite songs, hers eyes still shut as notes danced on her ears and in her head.

If Din were the type to let his jaw hang, it certainly would have been gaping at Tack's response. His eyes said it all, though, a stare of puzzled surprise. Tack wasn't stupid by any means, he wasn't even as oblivious as Din often was, but that insight was certainly unexpected to the elf. For a good few moments he was legitimately speechless, just letting the explanation sink in. It would have been less stunning if it all didn't make perfect sense, but every point the dragon touched on seemed completely logical. It even seemed obvious, once it was all out there, Din feeling almost idiotic for not seeing what had been pointed out. Saya wasn't running from him, she was running from a dangerous friendship, which made the whole encounter seem much more legitimized. Finally, Din nodded in agreement, content without a reply(a rare occasion for the elf).

That is until the salamander's very last sentence clicked on his ears. He had to do a slight double-take because of how much the bet just didn't fit with the rest of his words. Had Tack really just issued a bet for whether he could get a date with Saya? He really was surprising student, Din could not imagine any reason to throw that bet onto the end of his words. There was no real point in making the bet that Din could come up with, it had no real loss for him. Din could only assume that Tack would be pursuing Saya regardless of the bet, but this new game he was proposing gave Din a way to get free drinks out of it. Din was silent for a moment as a new curiosity came to his mind. Was Tack's wording a slip of the tongue? Alcohol wasn't something students could drink on campus, and nobody was supposed to know about his ventures that indulged such tastes. Was Tack suggesting purchasing normal beverages for him, or was there something he knew?

Macideus came in and dismissed him, interrupting the thoughts, but Din was happy to leave all the same.
"Don't have to tell me twice." He answered, heading straight for the door. He wasn't about to spend any more time stuck in the training room. "And Tack, I can't say no to someone else buying." He decided to take up the bet, seeing no reason not to at least try and get free drinks. As he left the room and started walking outside, the bet left his mind altogether and went back to the original problem. He tossed it over in his head trying to figure out how to handle Saya. Naturally, he wanted to secure his friend back, but wasn't sure how to do it. Saya was planning to leave this school and everyone in it, how could he establish that friendship if it would hurt her when she left?

((I don't really feel up to posting the next two hours of Tack's detention. So here are the adventures of the much neglected Erin! Yay!!))

Erin had left her room for some fresh air after recovering from the dizzying experiance of searching for Saya. She was about to write up a report as to why she had used the watch eye that was intended to make sure no one from the outside got in to search for Saya on the inside. But that sounded boring and Macideus would explain everything anyways, so for now she left it alone and stepped out to wander the grounds.

She walked and waved and was whislted at once or twice by some of the more gutsy boys but what caught her ear was music. Elvish music no less, she began following her ear eventually to see in the distance, three very familier students. Saya, Leo, and Raelyn. Both Raelyn and Leo were in her class although Leo did little more than sleep or daydream. She wanted to find a way to challenge the boy but he mastered everything too quickly for her to have any success. The only things he didn't know were stuff he hadn't yet read in the text or simply wasn't available. They hadn't even touched on dark magic yet and she really wanted to hold that off until she felt they were mature enough to use it properly. The dark arts were kept in a seperate text that she had locked away.

A playful smile flitted across Saya's face. The girl had been right in assuming that the troublemaker was best suited for this task. Being keyed into strong emotion was her specialty - when she felt something, whether it be anger, joy, depression, or fear, she felt it deep within her. It was a musician's passion, difficult to explain but understand almost universally by those who expressed themselves through nearly any form of art. The effects also worked in reverse with the young woman. For example, should someone really want to calm her down, all they really had to do was hand her a violin and some sheet music that reflected calm, soothing melodies. The emotion conveyed through the song would seep into her and a dangerous rage spiral would be a thing of the past. It was an interesting little trick only her siblings really cared to learn (and once they had, they quickly pursued to abuse the cheat code). Anyway, she had no trouble understanding Raelyn, and did not feel at all intimidated by the challenge. She fully intended to rise up and meet it, to fulfill her fellow students expectations and then surpass them. This instrument Saya held was her only outlet, since she was not particularly fond of sharing with others, and she knew how to use it. "Understood. I'll follow your lead."

Raelyn began and Saya allowed herself to absorb the tune and all its hidden meaning, waiting until the beat picked itself up along with the girl's voice. Unfortunately, singing was out of the question for the violist. It was one or the other for her, but never both at the same time. It simply had to do with the proper posture and attention playing the violin required. With the instrument resting against her chin, singing would not do. But the second the first couple notes rose gingerly through the air and reached her, her back straightened, knees were left unbent, her arm held the instrument nice and steady, and the other lifted with an uncharacteristic grace to bring the bow to meet the strings. This was musician-Saya, a girl with a violin who loved music dearly. She was not a runaway, not a young lady with a fierce temper, not a sister or a daughter or a friend, but she was an extension of the music that allowed her violin to shout out and reveal its presence to the rest of the world.

When Saya began to play, the bow worked furiously right off the bat with no hesitation. There was a spark of mischief in her eyes, something that could only be explained by the nature of the challenge Raelyn presented to her. Her smile persisted some, but her expression was mostly - surprisingly - professional once she had started. She left her emotions escape out of her, running rampant down her arms and out through the violin. This passion and full released was what made her captivating, not textbook skill or pure hard work and dedicated practice. Her realm of comfort was only in this. Those who listened might not believe she would express herself any other way. Saya left the steadier, more relaxing bits be her untainted happiness - how she felt while she was with her dear younger sister, how content she could be sharing a joke with her sole friend here, the ease at which she fit in with the important people in her life and how there was never a time where she truly wanted to flee from the sides of her family and the friend she had unintentionally hurt. Then there was the sorrow in this, the pain at knowing she was going to leave whatever joy she found at the Academy and a deeper, more elusive hurt that had to do strictly with her reason for wanting to go in the first place. The betrayal of her mother and her birth father, a figure she neither knew nor wished to become acquainted with. There was some frustration here, but Raelyn's lead washed it away as the love of the wind at its purest existence became her next focus. The slyph-blood in Saya loved the freedom of elven music and rang out in celebration of it. On that note, after her music revealed all it could, the elven nature of the song she was plating with Raelyn brought out the very core instincts of her nonhuman inheritance - pure emotion like none other, living inside all that feeling. More than anything, this stood out, bursting from the notes she played without fear of being inhibited: the taste of freedom and its indescribable beauty, something that resonated very smoothly with Saya's personality. She could fly away and desert them at any moment, or send a breeze bustling by through their hair.

Eyes shut the entire time, Saya kept playing, wishing fiercely that the joy she found in something so simply did not have to end (and, naturally, this was communicated too). It was intoxicating - the affect of the music, like a long-awaited catharsis, the sound of Raelyn's voice and her notes that shared an unspoken understanding with the Tennyson girl's own playing, and the purity of what they intended to communicate through the song. Both girls shone outside themselves in way unimaginable without a cello and a violin, respectively. Of course, this did not go unnoticed by an academic population.

Distant, observant, cool and collected Leon was spellbound. He had been expecting something worth hearing, but the lycan girl dove into her music in a way he had not at all anticipated. He watched wide-eyed a moment, losing himself and forgetting his careful mask. Not that either of the musicians could notice - their eyes had promptly shut, as if to tell the outside world they were being blocked off from something even greater than this, more magnificence hidden away within the very sole's of two girls who loved music in a way he could not properly comprehend. He recovered and listened, feeling the elvish tune and the suitable lyrics to match it evading his direct comprehension but somehow finding a way to resonate with him. Leon could not help but smirk. Who would have guessed shy little Raelyn had this sort of potential inside her feminine frame? It was a pleasant surprise - he had not wasted his time in her company, clearly. She had talent and skill, something that would fit in quite nicely in certain circles. This was something, also, that would keep him occupied while his dull surroundings bored him, which happened quite often. A nice discovery, all in all.

What it revealed about Raelyn, on the other hand, was difficult to say. It did not tell Leon much that he hadn't not already been told by the cellist herself or which he figured out through casual analyzing. He also became frequently lost in the music itself, so it was difficult to be his cold observant self simultaneously. He cursed himself for this afterward, feeling as if he failed. And really, he might have. Leon came in too late on Saya's playing, having been too entertained with how it meshed nicely in with what had already been an established set of notes. What he did remembered to catch was a nice bit of hurt. This he found intriguing. Saya wasn't exactly known as someone you'd catch crying into a friend's shoulder - speaking of which, didn't she only really have one? What was her excuse for that? This was not clearly revealed in the song. After missing so much, the only other interesting tidbits of information he extracted was her apparent sylph genetics, which had been more craftily hidden in her personality. It was like being given the answer to a riddle - he clearly saw the similarities and connections only after it had been pointed out to him. He didn't really enjoy that short of feeling, being Leon, but he shrugged it off at another interesting development.

Seeing as how the performance was going along nicely, the two were attracting a crowd, including a few elven folk who could appreciate the music in a way slightly different from the others. They started rushing in at the gossip of students who heard about the playing and wanted to go hear. The sound was traveling well outside and this only took a short thirty seconds to occur, if you're curious about how it was happening so quickly. Curious students came to find the source of the music and stood to the side of and behind Leon, who seemed to have set an imaginary boundary line between the audience and the engrossed musicians. Leon barely glanced around at this, some smug satisfaction at being the first there and the only invited guest. He sat down only when others began to, not wanting to single himself out by being the jerk in the front who wouldn't just kneel in the grass with the rest of them. He kept a low profile, if not for his grades and unusual attitude at times. From here he continued to watch and listen, along with a nice chunk of fellow classmates and those he had never met. Raelyn might not be overly pleased with the turnout, if his guess was right, but she would not be able to complain with positive reviews.

Erin approached the quickly growing crowd. She made her way through those standing to those sitting and found a piece of grass next to Leon. She didn't say anything. Instead she listened to the song, it reminded her of home although there was a sort of sadness to Saya's part. It made her somewhat homesick but the feeling passed as Saya's portion changed over from the hurt feelings to the joy of being who she was. Saya and Realyn were both very talented girls, she felt lucky to have Realyn in her class. She wondered how Macideus felt about having Saya in his class, likely frustrated. She had a little chuckle at the thought. It was more than once that Macideus had complained about Saya being easily his most difficult student. Her's was Leon, but she figured ever class had one.

"You seem so interested, if I sung my lessons you would pay attention?"

She teased the boy who looked absolutely captivated by the music. She wished she could capture this moment and give it to him as a reminder that life isn't as boring as it seems at first.

Raelyn's eyes remained shut as she played, content to leave the world around her and fall completely into the music. Saya picked up the music exactly as Raelyn had expected her to. The violin reached her ears with all the emotion that she had wanted from it. That was it, that was the song she had wanted to hear, but couldn't while playing on her own. The sounds quickly joined together in an audible dance until she was quickly intoxicated by the feeling behind it. The lycan didn't bother trying to hold on to reality, she let herself depart from the world, no longer sitting by a tree with an instrument, but completely taken over by a feeling of bliss that seemed to overpower her ears to take over all her senses.

The emotion was strange, and a tad extreme, but it was her drug. She loved the music, loved how the tunes melded together as they reached her delicate ears. Many people adored music, and could appreciate every single beautiful detail of it, but Raelyn chose to let it take her away. Some people wrote, some fought, some read, slept, or danced to escape reality and feel free from the world. Raelyn had managed to master the art of completely letting herself go, making music her escape. Good music at least, and with the kind of pure emotion in Saya's notes, it was hard not to leave the world behind. Her heart rose with Saya's feelings came through joyful, and fell when sorrow found her notes, and although the lycan knew very little about the girl, it felt like she could read her very thoughts from the notes dancing in the air.

Raelyn's voice had risen in response to Saya's music, unable to hold herself back when so enveloped. Eventually the song began to approach it's end, evident in her voice falling again, in the reverse of how it had entered. Saya was every bit a musician that Raelyn was, so she was confident that the girl would understand the gradual closing of the song. Finally her voice fell away completely, leaving only strokes on her cello walking their way to an end. Raelyn ended the song softly and let the last note of her part hang for a moment before letting it, too, fade away. She left herself still, eyes closed in leftover calm, like a child at the end of a lullaby. For a moment she just sat a listened to the silence, with the memory of sound resonating in her ears, before remembering that she was with Leon and Saya, and thus opening her eyes to return to them.

"Ah...," the girl breathed in surprise as her eyes found many others looking back at her. For just a moment her eyes were wide, not in horror, but in a quietly startled expression. She had to have realized that being outdoors meant others could hear the music, but she had not realized it had drawn a crowd. She smiled back briefly for a moment before her face flushed and she looked at the grass beneath her to hide it. There were a lot of stares in that crowd, including glances from her male classmates towards the two girls. That was certainly attention she wasn't used to catching. She swallowed and wondered if the group would eventually leave if she only sat quietly long enough. Common sense knew this wouldn't be the case, so she leaned over and spoke to Saya instead of trying to find something to say to the crowd that wasn't just awkward. "Oh, thank you, Saya that was perfect, I knew you would be right for that part. How was it to play?"
