Alright, we got a sub-forum now. Now we just got to figure out what we are going to do for our first project.

Should we do a full-fleshed world building, complete with maps, cultures and the like. Short stories and such could be written, taking place in the world. Myths, legends, and all that could also be written.

or

Should we do just a very basic world building, then start on writing a collaborative novel.

or

Should we combine the two, starting with an in depth world building and then expanding that into a novel.

or

Something else, you guys come up with. idea

Post in here to make your opinion known, what kind of collaborative project would you be most interested in doing?

Oh and thanks to waffles for making this sub-forum mrgreen

Told you that I would place a good word. 3nodding But it wasn't just me, the other moderators liked the idea too.

Anyways, I believe we should do some hard-core world building, character development, plot outlines, the works. Then let the slowly expand into a novel.

Seems like it would work. But maybe you should set a base, so members have some idea what to create. Guildlines in what should be within the world (elves, just humans, no mermaids, etc.) Just so someone doesn't create a character that couldn't exsist in the world.

I agree. I'm trying to think of a way we could organize this well.. for hardcore world-building we'll need some things..

1. Maps, maps of places, maps of terrain, etc..
2. Races, numerous fantasy races and the like, not to mention non-sentient creatures of mythos.
3. Cultures and Religions, no 1 culture per race deals either, with the exception of an almost completely extinct race all living in the same area.
4. Languages, to some extent, at least themes for the basic sounds, so that person and place names are kept believable..
5. Rules, how magic works and stuff like that.

So what we will probably want to have people in charge of each facet of the process, taking idea submissions from different people and blending them together. If we get a good amount of participation, we should be able to get a pretty good set-up done relatively quickly. After which we can work on the character designs and plot outlines.

So first off we should probably get some of the basics done in a democratic brainstorm. Such as what Races will be allowed, after which we choose the people in charge of each area. Only guideline that I personally have right now is that we make it a unique world.

I'm kind of new at this whole collaborative works thing, so I'm really trying to make this as democratic as I can...

Ideas! Need Ideas!

I'm so in! I love drawing maps... for one reason or another xd

Don't have much time to talk right now, so I'll come back tomorrow or Monday. The one thing we need to determine in the meantime is if this is going to be a sci-fi or fantasy world.

*Terminator style* I'll be back.

Indeed, we do need to figure that out. It'd probably be easier for me to work on a futuristic fantasy or sci-fi world, considering I'm already in the process of building an ancient fantasy world. But I can still juggle two ancient/medieval worlds well enough, so its really up to all the other contributors 3nodding

Well, it could always be a mix of fantasy and sci-fi... Like in a somewhat typical fantasy setting but with sci-fi technology....just throwing the idea out there. Though, I think that might've been done before.

That would be an interesting twist.

Bound to be that some races are more advanced than others. It makes perfect sense to me...

One word.
Multiverse.

How about each of us who are interested in this design our own universe (complete with all that hardcore stuff) and the only thing they all have in common is the acknowledged existance of other parrallel universes, and the way of travelling between them.

Say for instance I want to do a Noir style cyber-punk world, while Tak-Jak wants to do a Fantasy "swords magic elves" world. We each build one, then link them together.

You would have to make at at least one main character (although don't go crazy with the number, five is plenty enough) from your world.

Interested?

That would be, well, insane in complexity. Would take a helluva lot more devotion to the project than I think most people are willing to put forward, for 1 person each to create a universe. Though it may be slightly possible to have a multiverse, where people contributed to each universe as they saw fit or something...

That sounds a lot like the game Star Ocean Till the End of Time.

-shrugs-

Collaboratives are where I started my writing. (well actually I began writing when I started a book in ninth grade but I dropped writing when I got serious about science that same year. I didn't pick it up again until I got back in touch with my long lost best friend last summer. He had apparently begun writing as well, so I suggested that we work on something together. Then school came along and I didn't start writing again until I found gaia.)

[And that, my friends, is why my grammar sucks.]

So I've a bit of experience in the manner. But honestly, all I really have though is this: I've never seen a collaborative effort work without a rock solid setting, an vauge ending, and a few good writers.

If a collaborative effort doesn't have those three things It'll fall apart before it even reaches the climax.
