=/... I seem to be having a problem with breaking strings, I've broken the same string (G) 3 times within two weeks, I've also broke my D too. I'm doing slapping and popping stuff, but I'm not doing it like harder that I need, (I'm playing songs like Blackeyed Blonde, Tell Me Baby, and Aeroplane all by the Chili Peppers.) Now I ask all you bassests, what kind of strings could I get that would handle popping and slapping better. (BTW I'm currently using nickel plated round wound D'aquistos. My gauges are .105, .80, .65, and .45) Suggestions on different strings or bigger gauges?
Please and thank you ^^;

I use D'Adarios, and i've never had those break on me, despite the fact that what i play most is Primus. Breaking strings my have to do with the scale of your instrument if it's higher than normal, or maybe even the way your bridge is set up. But personally, i think D'Adarios work best, for both guitar and bass.

Hmm, maybe that could be it. But it seems fine to me. Maybe I'm popping harder than I realize

Maybe. but like I said, I play alot of Primus, and Les Claypool is way more intense than Flea, especially in recent times.

It's all in your nuances baby, aggressive playing will wear out your strings faster, but 3 sets in 2 weeks is a bit excessive, I'd check your bridge, possibly you have your saddles set to high so you're putting a little unnecessary strain on the strings.

First things first, make sure it's in tune. If it's too tight, it will break easier. Other than that, either the neck is very warped or there's something wrong with the bridge. Either way, I've only broken one string in my five years of playing (with excessive slap/pop). This is why I'm assuming the instrument is tuned too sharp.

It took me about two years to bust a string on my bass. ((Yes I rarely change strings... and yes I sold my bass years ago)), I slammed the strings with fury and rage as I found I couldn't Primus and the best I could do was Metallica, Iron Maiden and punk rock.... So maybe you just tightened them too much? try downtuning.

Try purchasing a more durable kind of string. I use DR strings at this point. They last for ages!
I would only imagine that your tuning is messed up... EADG right? Not tampering with them at all? No boiling or anything?
Maybe your bass doesn't like you razz

Yes I do EADG. I occasionally tune down to flats or to CGCF but I don't do slapping or popping when there tuned down. And does DR stand for something or is the name DR?

Your nut might have a rough or sharp spot that eats away at your string, run some sandpaper in the spaces, and a pencil, the graphite works as a lubricant.

Please and thank you ^^; (wistles in a descrescendoeing tone) that's the problem nickel strings are crap. you should get rotosounds, very good slap strings and they're the same gages as the ones you use now. i'm actually gonna switch back to Markleys, rotosounds are to twangy for the style im playing in my band.
