The cool morning air had been what had woken Yua. That was key in understanding the events that had come in the adolescent's waking.
Sweet dreams of being home with his mother, who was actually seeming to believe what he was saying for once, had been interuptted quite rudely by a cold feeling in one of his ears, which Yua batted at sleepily, refusing to wake up.
However, the action threw him off balance, and when one is sleeping in a tree....
To say the least, Yua had fallen out of it quite quickly, landing on the ground underneath his branch of choice with an unceremonious 'THUD', which jerked his brain into it's fully awake state, and perked him up to a sitting position to leer up at one of the branches that loomed over him.
"Yooooooouuuuuuuuuu..." he hissed, staring at the imaginary figure that sat there.

Time had passed and Mfuto had grown quite accustomed to the idea of being on his own again. Oh, he missed Uten and Mag desperately; they were, after all, his bestest bestest friends. Still, it had been so long since he lagged behind and lost track of them that he simply decided they must no longer exist, or had probably forgotten about him, and it was time to move on.
Recently, the world had started to seem a bit smaller to Mfuto. He had at first thought that perhaps it was only because Uten and Mag weren't in it. As time passed, however, and he got used to not having them around, the world continued to feel small. Things that had once seemed to Mfuto as small were now tiny, and things that had once seemed to him gigantic were now only moderately huge. He wondered if he was growing or if the world was shrinking. In his mind, each option was just as likely.
It was chilly this morning, and Mfuto didn't care for it. He felt a little fluffier than usual--he assumed that his mane had grown to compensate for the cold--but it wasn't helping enough. And the cold in and of itself certainly wasn't helping Mfuto's loneliness. He had been traveling an awful long while without seeing a single soul. Mfuto huffed and kicked at the dirt and muttered, "I wishes I hads somebuddy ter play with."
And that's when Yua fell from the tree, right before Mfuto's bright green eyes.
Mfuto stared and marveled silently for a moment and then, noticing the fellow who had just fallen from the sky seemed quite angry at someone, looked upward. Seeing no one there, Mfuto looked back to Yua and asked quite plainly, "Whys you fightin' with the tree, mister?"

He hadn't even noticed he'd been -that- close to crushing a smaller body underneath the sheer un-size of his scrawniness. Afterall, he'd been so focused on the 'evil spirit' that was snickering at him in the tree, it actually took the juvenile's speaking to break him out of his little phase to look towards him.
One ear perking up, Yua's olive-colored eyes looked towards Mfuto with a sort of curious expression. Why was he fighting with the tree? Why -wasn't- he fighting with the tree?
"Because the darn thing just threw me out, kid." Yua replied, obviously having a bit of 'morning problems' and crankiness. But one could guess anybody just thrown from their place of sleep would be such. "Or at least one of it's little MINIONS did.." he emphasized the word 'minions' while turning to look back up into the tree with his attempted 'evil' glare.
It -so- wasn't working, since all that happened was one of the twigs from the branch he'd been sitting off, and had been hanging by a thread, snapped off in the wind, and bonked Yua on the head, nesting itself in his mane.
Oh yes, nature was laughing at him.

Mfuto wrinkled his nose as Yua described his plight. "Well that wasn't verrah nice," he declared, always the picture of obviousness. Still, he kept glancing back up at the tree, wondering where these said minions were, and why he couldn't see them. Maybe they were invisible. Mfuto shrugged, indifferently. The Tree Minions weren't his problem, even if they were mean little brutes; they weren't bothering him.
Then the branch came flying and clocked Yua in the head. Mfuto scrambled back a little, startled. He glanced up at the tree and frowned at it. "You leaves him alones!" he hollered, unaware of the pun his speech impediment had inflicted on the world. He then turned and, in a show of graciousness, clambored up Yua's skinny shoulder and pulled the branch from his hair. Dropping to the ground, the juve beamed at a job well done. "Theres you go," he said. Mfuto loved being able to help. Helping was a surefire way to make friends, and friends were about the most important thing in the world as far as Mfuto was concerned.

Never being one to catch puns, Yua simply appreciated -someone- standing up for him against the tree. Or rather, standing on him. As scrawny as Yua was, that didn't mean he was blessed with the best ability to -stand- when there was someone almost the same size as him crawling on his shoulder.
In fact, it caused him to be smooshed down against the grass and dirt while the branch that had assaulted him was fished out of his mane. And that process felt like it took forever. Not that anyone would notice a partially insane lion squished into the ground.
Looking up at Mfuto when he happily decreed that he'd gotten the branch out of his mane, Yua sat back up and grinned crookedly, his spine cracking to tell him that yes, it did still work, and now it was back in the right place.
Lifting the stick, Yua stared at it for a moment, before tossing it back at the tree with a rather angry expression.
".. Thanks.."

Little Mfuto was gleefully oblivious to the pain he had inflicted to Yua when he had pushed him to the ground, even though he could hear the crackling of Yua's spine as the older lion righted himself. The juvenile was still just pleased with himself for freeing the branch so that it could be in turn used as a projectile against the enemy tree. When Yua thanked him, Mfuto responded by eagerly nodding and shouting, "You's welcome!"
There was a brief awkward pause in which nothing was said. At least, it would seem awkward to anyone else; it didn't feel at all awkward to Mfuto, who felt it natural to say nothing when he couldn't think of anything to say. Finally it occured to him that he probably ought to introduce himself. So, he stood himself up tall, chest puffed out, and announced, "I is Mfuto, bys the way!" He bowed clumsily, dragging his scruffy mane through the dirt. "Who's you?" He stared intensely at his new companion, waiting for an answer.

One never would know if pain for Yua was theraputic or.. er.. painful. Indeed, he took it with enough stride to mask that it was actually quite awkward to have someone walking all over him. Not that he'd complain about it, though. It could've been worse.
Grinning a bit at the response the 'thanks' had received, the shaman took a few minutes to simply stare at the tree for a minute during the 'awkward silence', which wasn't really so awkward at all. At least not to Yua.
The sudden actions seen in the corner of his eye, however, got him to look at the cub next to him as he introduced himself in the most... ungraceful of manners. Adorable, but ungraceful.
"Mfuto." he repeated, making sure he had it right, before turning his entire body to face his new associate and mimicking the bow, only with less 'dragging head in dirt' action that seemed to have attached itself to the motion.
"I'm Yua.... and I've actually heard your name somewhere else before." he stated thoughtfully.

Mfuto was, in fact, highly impressed by Yua's show of bowing, and the decrease in clumsiness that he displayed. In fact, Mfuto was sure he hadn't seen a nicer bow ever before in his short life. Actually, he probably had... he'd once been royalty, after all. He just couldn't remember much of that life. All the same, Mfuto whistled a little watching Yua's "grace" (so to speak). "Wow, you bows awful nice, mister Yua," Mfuto declared, feeling that Yua ought to know what a nice bow-er he was.
Then Mfuto's little fuzzy ears perked up. Heard? He'd been heard of? "You's heard of me?" Mfuto inquired in hushed awe. How was that at all possible? Mfuto was just a cub, nobody special, nobody famous. Why, the only possible explanation had to be...
Mfuto abruptly broke in to a long, shrill squeal which eventually collapsed into delighted giggles. He fell onto his back and rolled about in the grass. "WHEEEEEEEEEE! I'S FAMOUSNESS!" he cried. Yes, that had to be it. He must be famous. For what, he was uncertain, but did it really matter?

There was an odd pause as Yua seemed to put into perspective that -YES-, his -BOW- had just been complimented. Hmm. "... Thanks?" he replied, expression a little confused, but none the less, he felt it polite that he'd at least show some appreciation for such an... odd.. compliment.
The shaman stared at Mfuto as he seemed to comprehend that he'd, yes, been heard of. "Well... yeah.." he answered, head tilting to the side.
It was about then, things got to a mixture of confused -and- rather hilarious activity. Ears flattening at the squeal that filled the air, Yua watched as the cub suddenly hit the ground, giggling with such glee that he'd never seen before. Amazing how something so.... insignificant could brighten another's day.
Famousness?
"Yeah, I guess so." He agreed, chuckling.

The confusion Yua felt at being complimented on his bow didn't even register with Mfuto. Mfuto was still just too shocked that he was recognized. Neither did all the staring strike him as odd. Why, it was only natural for people to stare at the famous! That was what they did... stare. Take it all in. That's right, this was THE Mfuto here. In the flesh. None other. Mfuto grinned at the thought as Yua confirmed that he had heard of Mfuto before.
He was clearly completely oblivious to the discomfort he was causing to Yua's poor ears and poor brain.
Finally Yua lightened up a little, and though Mfuto had been too busy to consciously note the older lion's comfort, he still relaxed a little with the chuckle. Mfuto sat up then, brushing himself off, and looked up bright-eyed at Yua. Now, what was it a famous person was supposed to do?
Ah, that's right.
"I bet yous wants my otter-graph!" Mfuto declared. That's what people got from famous people, right? Otter-graphs?

Otter-graph? What on earth was an -ottergraph-? He'd never heard of such a thing. "Umm.. not really...." Yua replied, lifting a paw to ruffle his own mane with it. That was probably not the answer he -should- have given.
"I have no way to keep such things, see?" he explained in his own defense, hoping it would keep any drama from occurring (not that he expected any from such an aloof little kid..). It -was- a good reason to not want anything. He'd lose it way too quickly, and carrying stuff was -such- a hassle (unless it was trapped in his mane, but he'd pull it out in annoyance anyways..)
Looking back to the tree, Yua gave it another firm glare, challenging it to try and attack him again, and grinned smugly when no 'nature assault' came after him.
That was always a good thing, he could guess.
"Unless you can think of a way for me to keep such a thing on hand without engraving it into my flesh."

What? Yua did not want his ottergraph? Mfuto pouted very intensly, lip wobbling, eyes threatening to spring wells. Why, if Yua did not want his autograph, either he must be really bad at being famous, or he must be famous for doing something bad. He tried desperately to remember something bad he might have done recently.
Was he famous for losing Uten and Mag?
Then Yua compensated, and Mfuto forgot all about being upset. Ohh... he was afraid of losing it! Well that made perfect sense. Mfuto still wasn't happy that he wouldn't get to give out his first otter-graph as a famous people, but it made sense to him, and he could relax. "Ohhhhhh... I see!" Mfuto declared.
Mfuto shook his head. "No, I dun think so... in facts, I dun thinks I even knows how to give an ottergraph. I's not even sure whats an ottergraph is." Mfuto nodded sagely at this, then faltered and fell quiet.
Yep.
That was about all he had to say.

Er. -YUA- didn't have the slightest as to what an ottergraph was either. Hmmm. "Well.. maybe we should go find out what one is! It'll be the greatest quest EVER!" He decreed, standing up to look all dramatic, until the tree.. y'know.. wanted revenge again, and another twig came down to assault him in his psuedo-glory.
Twitch.
"HEEEEY!"
His attention automatically shift from the cub, to the foliage that was mocking him, growling and fur puffing up in an attempt to make the little scrawny male look bigger.
GRR..

Mfuto was relieved. Perhaps if Yua did not know what an ottergraph was either, then perhaps Mfuto wasn't so terrible at being famous after all! His eyes gleamed at Yua's suggestion, and he gasped and froze. Quest? Did he say QUEST!? "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" Mfuto squealed, "We's goin' on an A'VENTURE!" He bounced around Yua in excited circles. "YAAAAAY! This ish a GREATS idea! Letsgoletsgoletsgo!" He barely even faltered as Yua was once again attacked by the tree-beast, only pausing to stare Yua down directly in the eyes and holler, "An' maybes if'n we finds out the Secret of the Ottergraph, th' tree-thingies will a'spect you, an' they'll leaves you 'lone!" He nodded eagerly at this, as though agreeing with himself, then bounded about his poor companion once again. "HOORAAAAAAAAAY!"
At this point, only one thing could stop short the sheer force of Mfuto's excitement, and that was the slow, steady glacier-crawl of his train of thought. It finally reached the front of his mind and he skidded to a stop, looking to Yua and inquiring. "Um... mister Yua... wheres do we even start ter finds out what an ottergraph is?" Valid question.

The running around the male was definately the quickest way to make his head spin. Yua's head moved back and forth, around and around to follow the hyperactive Mfuto's path of pointless circles. That plus all the slurred yelling was enough to bring the male to lift his paw to rub it against his forehead to ebb the throbbing in it.
It just hurt so badly.
So it was with great relief from Yua, that Mfuto stopped his running.
The question posed for him, however, was less then 'wonderful', as the brown male now had to put his sore head back into functioning order; a task that wasn't too common for him. Afterall, most of his questioning had required answers of less thought then the ones he had to give to the cub he'd just met.
".. Well... I guess the beginning of our quest starts with finding out what he can about it from.. umm..."
Pause...
"Someone.."
