Just to avoid anything that will come up with this video being shown here, this video DOES NOT mean that they are planning on remaking the game for the PS3. It is merely a display of power for the PS3 that was made to get the attention of everyone. What better way than portraying one of their most successful games ever, right?

Cool as it is, I can't accept that this isn't pre-rendered. The only PS3 tech that this is demonstrating is its ability to play videos.
Still, damn awesome cutscene. Keep emailing Square asking for a remake; we'll break them sooner or later. biggrin

I heard that over careful consideration that SE has in fact decided to do a remake of FF7 for the PS3. This is only what I heard though so don't quote me on it. On another note since they have such great graphic you would think that Aeris hair would be a lot nicer. I always thought of Aeris's hair as being thicker especially since its curly but it looks really thin and frail in there.

Ah, the Tech Demo. xd 'Tis so very pretty, yes. Although it's not official, the company's been dropping hints that they just might make the remake. Because, you know, they're money grubbing bastards, and like to make their fans writhe in anticipation.
Although, the comment about Aerith's hair... I can see what you mean. However, even so, this is probably because her hair is more realistically portrayed. In the original anime style, hair can look as thick and luxurious as one may want it to be. However, most of Aerith's hair is pulled back into the twist she's got. What I figure is that her hair is wavy, yet has a fine quality to it so it's not as thick. Kind of like how Cloud's hair looks much, MUCH bigger, but when it's realistically rendered, it's considerably different.
I was disappointed that they didn't show Aerith's eyes, since they are (to me) one of her best features, but I was very impressed with how they animated her dress as she walked. The way the fabric pulled against her knees and other parts of her body as she moved was quite realistic. biggrin

I thought it was actually going to be remade....re-released and what not and when I found out otherwise....needless to say I got upset. Mader than hell and filled with sorrow and longing to see better graphics for this game on the new concle.
http://www.petitiononline.com/ff7remke/petition.html Here's a petition that was started not too long ago, anyone who wishes to sign this for Squarsoft, do so....please. Send this to everyone you know--granted that they actually know what the best rpg game of all time is--and have them look it over, sign it even. The more people we get this out to, the better our chances of persuadeing Square to rethink making the game for PS3.
Frankly, I don't know why they wouldn't re-make and re-release the game. Most people I know--includeing myself--would buy an over priced concle just for that game alone. Seriously, why would they pass up the chance to make a grand profit off of something that's already there for them to work with? All that would need to be redone would be the graphics themselves......maybe even voice actting if we're lucky.

I'm pretty sure that, at this rate, we can count on a remake if we just keep bugging them enough. Everyone sign the petition; in the last two years, they've gone from "We will not be doing a remake" to "We have no plans to do a remake" to "We haven't announced plans to do a remake".
I just hope it's not a PS3 exclusive. I'd still buy the game, but there's no way I'm paying $600-700 to play it.

Note that Square and Squenix have been saying that they wanted to remake it since the graphics engine for FFVIII came out. It doesnt mean theyre going to.

Just a note: The song used (Opening~Bombing Mission) was not the original one in the game. It was a new version that was written and recorded for this demo. Why go to all that trouble? On a sadder note, though, Nobuo Uematsu is NO LONGER WITH THE COMPANY, so they have to use a different musical director for it. Also, isn't this old news/spam?

It is merely a display of power for the PS3 that was made to get the attention of everyone. What better way than portraying one of their most successful games ever, right? While it's true that Square-Enix has said repeatedly that there is no remake of FFVII in the works, there are hints and resons out there that suggest that it's possible. Tetsuya Nomura himself has said he'd be interested in working on the project, and in my opinion, using FFVII for the tech demo suggests to me that they wanted to see exactly how people would respond to the images, and the response was that of extreme excitement and rampant speculation. I think in time, once they've completed other projects, that it's very possible, likely even, that a remake of this game will come along, being as I'm sure they realize just how much money there is to be made if they go through with it. The original was a multi-platium seller both in the US and abroad, and it's fame and popularity has grown several fold since it's release nearly 10 years ago. If you ask me, they'd be crazy not to do it.
