I was running a list of really tough characters and the people that would inevitably topple them and I came across a conundrum:
Who is more powerful? The Be All End All Thanos or the Ten Century Sun Dip Green Latern Last Son of Krypton?
Would the Ring that Superman wields protect him against the effects of the Infinity Gems?
Is Superman smart enough not to be fooled by Thanos' mind games?
I wish I knew. So I'm asking.

Superman loses.
If he had that sword he had in one Pre - Crisis story, though, he would have a much better chance.

I'm reading about it and seeing that he beat Galactus and is one with God. Das confusing, Das. Superman Annual #10? Hm... I had no idea a Superman Sword even existed. I still don't know the story of it.

It was only in one Pre - Crisis story, apparently it gave him some of the power of the Presence (DC's God).

Thanos. When he has the gems together he could sit on the other side of the universe and say "I don't like Superman Prime". And Superman Prime would explode into tiny pieces. Or Superman Prime could be sitting in front of him giving everything he's got and Thanos would just laugh at him and wipe him from time and space.
And some of the Presence's power < Infinity Gauntlet.

I guess the only people Thanos cannot defeat are his own writers.

Actually, he's still weaker than the Living Tribunal, the Pre - Retcon Beyonder, the Pre - Retcon Brothers, the Primal Force, the One Above All, Lucifer Morningstar, Michael Demiurgos, an absolute maximum - powered Spectre, the Great Evil Beast, anyone with the Heart of the Universe, and the Presence.
And that's just in Marvel and DC.

Even with the Gauntlet?
What makes those beings immune to the effects of the Gems?
Maybe that'll give a lesser being an edge.

And that's just in Marvel and DC. The IG is indeed more powerful than any version of the Beyonder. The Beyonder was just a Cosmic Cube that gained awareness. The Goddess gathered together like 30 Cosmic cubes in order to do what she wanted.... since the IG was no longer an option. And I seriously doubt that any version of Spectre would be more powerful. Also the Heart of the Universe seemed to do everything the IG could, so they would be about equal.

Spectre at maximum power is theoretically as powerful as the Presence since that's where he gets his power. HOTU was stated to be greater than the IG. I know which Beyonder you're talking about. When we first saw him in the first Secret Wars. The IG would slap him around. And I've never seen Spectre do anything along the lines of usurping a universe from it's personification. And once again the HOTU didn't do anything that Thanos didn't do with the IG so I still believe them to be at least equal.
