Washington politicians are once again seriously considering imposing a national identification card – and it may well become law before the end of the 108th Congress. The much-hailed 9/11 Commission report [pdf] released in July recommends a federal identification card and, worse, a "larger network of screening points" inside the United States. Does this mean we are to have "screening points" inside our country where American citizens will be required to "show their papers" to government officials? It certainly sounds that way!

No way in Hell! If this becomes law, I will move to Canada.

ahhh the NAZIs from the movies. Brings back memeries. "Ver are you papers". Yup I'm working on a list of reasons why I need to get the hell out of the US. This is one of them.

I say, give me liberty or give me death. I'd rather die in a terrorist attack then suffer under a dictator (bush) who seems to provoke terrorist attacks.

I think a line in Tom Clancy's Hunt for Red October is appropriate here.

No Papers. State to State.

More like land of slaves, home of cowards.

So what would happen if I went out without my wallet? Would that be grounds for arrest if a cop decided to card me?

Yah, really. I have a hard enough time remembering lunch cards, credit cards, just my wallet in general. I'd be and out of the big house all the time :sweat Plus, who really wants to have to carry around s**t every time they go out? I sure as hell don't.

Well besides for the stupidity of it, it takes away a vital right. It invades one of Locke's natural rights: Liberty. The country only promises Life, but it doesn't protect the right to any of three nowadays.
