Recipe of the Week

As an attempt to encourage more participation in the Gaian Gourmets and Cooks Guild (GGCG), a new program is being put into effect: Recipe of the Week. The format is very simple. Once a week, a new recipe is selected to be attempted by all who wish to participate. During the week, people can try the selected recipe and write reviews, good or bad, about the recipe. Also, they can put in ideas about what variations that they tried or what they believe would make the recipe better.

A sticky has been put in place for suggestions for upcoming Recipes of the Week. Individual threads will be made each week to help in organizing and separation of the different weeks.

Upcoming Guild Events

Two things have been suggested that may help the guild: indexing of the recipes and Ingredient of the Week.

Inspired by The Iron Chef (a popular cooking game show from Japan), kmaritza will be heading Ingredient of the Week would be much the same as Recipe of the Week (see above). However, this Ingredient of the Week would focus on a particular ingredient and it would be up to the participant how it is used. This could range anywhere from cantaloupe to jalapeno, from chocolate to cayenne pepper, from ground beef to fried eel. (Ok, I’m joking about the eel bit, but mainly because it is too expensive.) The main point is that almost anything that can be used as an ingredient can be suggested. Also, recipes based on the Ingredient of the Week can be used to make any type of dish (appetizer, entrée, dessert, etc.) but must be creative, original recipes (not just copies of already published recipes you have found). This will make it more like The Iron Chef. “This way it is more experimenting in the kitchen instead of just listing your favorite recipe.” kmaritza hopes this helps makes the GGCG into less of a cookbook and more of a guild.

Last week’s Recipe of the Week was Cake Mix Cookies. There have been a few comments and suggestions, but feel free to go back and put your own review if you so desire.

Upcoming

kmaritza is working on the Ingredient of the Week idea and will have that up toward the end of the week. She will be incorporating a competition into the idea to make it more like Iron Chef.
