Deinos' steps were slow as he wandered down his path. His thoughts flowed as unrushed as his wandering as a memory floated to the forefront of his mind. At first a gauzy film covered the scene, but soon enough he could recount even the melody of Venus' voice. The first time he met her had been a day just like today. A day where Deinos had been trying to help a member of his herd in the garden.... and failing.
It had crushed him hearing the frustration in his adoptive father's raised voice. Seeing the look of agitation before running off with tears blurring his vision. Back then, Deinos had felt like he could never do anything correct when he looked into his father's eyes.
Deinos shook the memory from his thoughts and tried to force himself back to his happy thoughts. Of meeting Venus in the woods after. The corner of his mouth tilted up as he chuckled, remembering how in his blurry vision he had thought he had met an angel.

Venus had just left from a visit with some of the minis in her herd. She wanted to get home where she stays with Deimos ever since she met him. She couldn't believe it was nearly a year already since they've met. She trots up the all too familiar pathway to the home that is full of memories of both of them... both good and bad. Her ears swishes to listen for the heavy footfalls of Deimos. She knew he would be wanting her home.
The fall weather had arrived with the appearance of the leaves turning orange and red. She giggled at the sounds of the crushing of fallen leaves under her hooves. "..... This place has grown so much in happiness and memories." She says while looking around in the trees, watching the little birds getting ready to fly south for the winter.

A soft tinkling brushed over Deinos' ears, breaking him out of the reverie he had sunk into. It tugged a new, larger smile onto his lips as he quickened his step. Venus' laugh always drew him in. He popped his head out from behind their home and greeted her home. "Looks like I timed it just right. Were you visiting the herd?" He walked the last few steps to her in one bound and nuzzled his neck around her. "How are they?"

Venus was just a few feet away from the home when she heard his voice. "Deinos!" She giggled at the sight of him, walking over to him. She made it a point to not only give him a nuzzle and a kiss on the nose but to give the same to each of his vines. "I did go visit the herd. They are doing good. There is talk about baskets appearing in the big herd from the minis. Snowlily just became a grandma again." She smiled, looking up at him.
"But enough about me.. I came home early to spend time with you and check on you to make sure you are okay. You went to see your herd as well?" She asked while tilting her head.

Deinos nodded, his chin rubbing against Venus' side with the process. He was a little slow with a response as the scene played in his mind and he wondered how, or even what to share with her. All, of course. He always shared all with her. "Dad was ornery. As usual" a small sigh escaped as he broke the contact between them so he could stand next to her.
"Seems he had a lot to talk about, though not really much to say. Apparently I surprise him that I've 'learned basically nothing' since I've been away from my herd for so long." Deinos rolled his eyes before giving a little smile. It might seem like he hadn't grown at all since he saw him, but he knew the truth. It was obvious the positive effect Venus had on his life. Before her, he would have felt alone in the world. He would have believed the words his father had said in his frustration. But now, now he knew his truth. That his mistakes dont make him all he is.
"Basically he was frustrated one of his crops wasn't producing well and taking it out on me." He turned to lip Venus' cheek. "I have a feeling my night will be better than his, so I can't be too sad." Flashing a goofy grin her way.

Venus burred at the nuzzle coming from him. "Oh dear.." She shakes her head. "Your father takes you for granted, my dear Deinos. You have learned so much since we have met." She looked up into his eyes. "... He thinks his crops aren't doing good? Does he even realize what season it is?" If she could facepalm, she would at this moment.
"I ought to give your father a stern talking to about treating you like crap." She frowned softly. "You got a beautiful soul with a big heart, hun." She walked towards their home. "If you need me to talk to him... you know I will." She then gives a sharp look to Squirtle. "... And you didn't do anything to stand up for him.. did you, Squirtle?" She took a step towards him, flickering her wings.

Deinos shrugged his shoulders as high as he could. "I dunno what he's thinking. I didn't really stay around long enough to figure it out. Mostly I stuck around Ma and said hi to the youngins when the 'nursemaids' were distracted." He grinned wickedly at his familiar, remembering what he had talked the turtle into doing so he could chat and checkup with the new foals. Luckily Venus was too distracted herself with the familiar to notice his change in body language.
His familiar had almost made it to the front door when Venus rounded on him. For a quick millisecond terror flashed through his eyes. Then he remembered who was coming at him, relaxing into his usual taunting stance. "Me? Hes big enough to defend himself if needed." He turned to continue his journey into the house "Hell, I've tried to talk him into letting me teach his dad a lesson, but he won't let me." With a shrug, he entered the house.
Deinos frowned, his brows furrowed slightly. "Like I said, he's just grumpy. He'll cool off soon enough, or Ma will dump a bucket of water on his head." That brought a smile to his lips and he shrugged again. "If I didn't think it was torture on you, Id say he could use some teaching on growing crops".

Venus tilts her ears towards Deinos for a few minutes while still glaring at Squirtle. "Your mom sounds like a sweetheart, dear. I would love to meet her.. after I give your father a good lecture on how to treat you right. And no, I won't let it go.. You know me. I wanna see my vines boy happy."
Her voice then turn stern. "... NOT WHEN HE IS WITH HIS FATHER!" She steps on his tail. "You know how he has trouble with his confidence, boy..." She narrows her eyes at him. "If I hear that you didn't stand up for him LIKE A PROPER FAMILIAR... your butt is mine... Got it, Squirtle? I know you got a name but I refuse to use it right now." She snorts heavily as hot breath comes out of her nose.
She suddenly then turns to face Deinos as if nothing happens, looking at him with affection for him. "Oh, sweetie." She opens the door for their home. "Come on.. Lets get you warmed up." In that moment, her heart fell full once they got inside.
"Deinos?" She finds a comfortable spot and lays down. "We can get the food once we get warmed up. But I need to say this..." Her eyes grew soft. "We have made so many memories in here. We learned how to make herb type meds, tea.. so many meals. But we also cried and laughed together." She pats the spot on the floor besides her. "I..." She blushes ever so deeply. "You have no idea how grateful I am for you.. and even your familiar despite how it is." She glanced towards the fire that was made by one of her friends' familiars. "I... I like you. " Her blush deepens as her voice gets softer with affection. "No.. Not just like.. I think I love you."

Deinos walked in behind Venus, distracted by the soft cursing coming from the pantry. He couldn't hear exactly what was being said, but if his familiar needed him, Deinos knew he'd call out for him. He decided to leave him to his cursing and pay attention to the real treasure of the house. Venus in their bed.
Deinos smiled as he registered the tapping of the hoof beckoning him to the bed and decided that was exactly where he wanted to be. He took a step and Venus' voice suddenly rung gongs in his head. She WHAT? Suddenly Deinos could hear nothing else as he froze to try and parse her words. She loved him?? What could he have done to possibly deserve such a gift? And how long had he been frozen like this staring at her?
Deinos tried to save himself by giving a suave smile. Not realizing the goofy grin he had instead, he wound around her to lay curled around her. Deinos hid his burning cheeks in laying his head down next to her. "I-I love you too." "SWEETDREAMS!" He replied before burying his muzzle the rest of the way in her wings.
Deinos's vines spent the next 15 minutes trying to nuzzle and lip Venus as he tried to control the heat of his cheeks.

Venus couldn't help but giggle at his goofy stance once she realized he heard his words. "Oh, my.. Can you get any cuter?" She blushed madly, watching the goofy grin that she loves so much appearing on his lips.
".. Are you just gonna stand ther..?" She gasps a bit as she watches him walk over to her. Her gaze soften quite a bit in his direction. She nuzzles him deeply for a few seconds before looking up into his eyes. That is when she heard his words. It was short and fast but she was able to understand just what he was saying to her. She tilts her head to lick him on the cheek before laying her head down against one of his feet.
A shriek of happiness escaped from her lips once the vines started giving her kisses and nuzzles. She knew that the vines were an extension of his emotions. The smile never left her blushing face as she went to sleep.
DONE!
