The girl bent double, breaths coming quick and heavy as she stared down at the rapidly-scattering dusty remains of the things that had just been prowling through the alleys. There’d been two of them, quick and quiet- but not quick or quiet enough. Niðavellir could take out two dumbass, no good, very bad, worthless monsters. That was kind of the gig, and she was happy to oblige.

Maybe she was going about it wrong. She wasn’t out looking for friends, wasn’t extremely attached to the Wonder that gave her power, and she definitely tended toward a certain recklessness…

But Niðavellir thought she was pretty ******** good at this, for all she’d only been doing it for a month or so. And someone (something?) else must have thought so too, since the stick she’d been carrying around for all that time had recently got an upgrade into a full-blown staff. Way, way better for beating the heads off these stupid shadow monsters. And she wasn’t afraid to do it. If she caught a single sniff of these creatures skulking around her city, they were gonna get it (‘it’ being her boot cracking through their heads).

Because even if she didn’t do most of it right, she could do that right. She could protect the people in this city from the youma that invaded like the ******** plague. Where did they come from- who knew? What did they want- ******** if she was smart enough to figure that out.

Didn’t matter. Most important thing was that they didn’t hurt anyone. And she could manage that. Was happy to manage that.

Heaving a breath, she pushed herself to stand straight, tossing her head back, shaggy dark braids dropping against her back with a cadence not dissimilar to rain. Alright, first fight of the night tackled with aplomb, if she did say so herself. Good enough she deserved a treat, even. When Niðavellir walked out of the alley she had the stick of a sucker poking out of her lips and her staff twirling between her fingers like there was nothing in this world worth being concerned about.

Didn’t say much about how many monster auras she could still feel buzzing at the edge of her senses.

Feeling the aura of a Squire surrounded by auras of Chaos was enough to gt Cybele to immediately shift her course towards the situation and break into a jog. The fact that the Chaos felt fairly weak meant that she did not call on her Princess form or even her magic to make her faster. She doubted there was a need to, and she was happy to be right as the auras flickered and then fizzled into nothingness before she even arrived at the scene.

The girl she found was a stranger, catching her breath in a pile of youma dust.

"You alright?" asked Cybele, slowing and offering a slight smile so as to not startle the girl. Her feet ached a bit from the run but she tried not to show it.

She glanced her over, and didn't see any obvious injuries. She did see some symbols, though. Saturn, she thought, although she wasn't sure. It wasn't a type of knight that she'd had as much interaction with, and it had been a while since she'd looked over the symbols.

"I was coming over to check on you, but it looks like you had it handled."

Her gaze shifted over to the pile of dust, and her nod was impressed. Sometimes the Squires she found were still asking her how to fight, not taking things down on their own.

Her smile was wider as she turned back. "Good work."

Even though she could occasionally feel the light and buoyant auras of her comrades scoping out the city around her, Niðavellir's run-ins with other powered humans were… nonexistent. Not that she was opposed to meeting them face-to-face, and she’d hardly call herself shy! It just didn’t work out that she crossed paths with anyone like her, and she wasn’t gonna beat herself up about it. As long as she was doing what she was supposed to be doing, who would complain?

But without a true network to source intel from, her knowledge of what exactly she was supposed to be doing was a little… shallow. It mostly amounted to:

Chaos: bad.

Senshi: (usually) good!

Get rid of Chaos. Punch their monsters in the face so they can’t hurt other people. Or beat them with a stick. Whatever works. She’d grown up from her days as a Page, so she could even use magic, if she wanted (but she’d noticed hers didn’t help her out too much; lame).

Still, she could feel it in her bones as a senshi drew closer, and it did come with a certain sort of anticipation (someone else powered- like her! Stronger than her, maybe they’d been at this a while; how long?) as she waited. Niðavellir's expression lit as the Eternal came to a stop in front of her. And she knew she had to play this so ******** cool because she was not gonna embarrass herself in front of this woman!

She rolled her shoulders in a dismissive sort of shrug. “Ah, yeah, I’m alright. I don’t usually have too much trouble with the ones that are kinda dumb, y’know?” The smarter ones… well, Niðavellir knew it was appropriate to run sometimes. She wasn’t out here trying to die, or anything.

She was still smiling, eyes bright as she looked at the woman in wonder. “I haven’t met a senshi before,” she admitted. “I’m Niðavellir. Of Saturn.”

"Many of them are kind of dumb," Cybele agreed. Some youma were stronger than others, though, so it was good to always be prepared. The girl had a good head on her shoulders, though, and Cybele smiled easily, especially as she made her introduction.

"I'm Cybele," she said. "Senshi of the Hunt, if we're being formal." She put one ankle behind the other and swept her skirts out for a quick curtsy, the smile almost turning into a laugh at trying to be that formal. She didn't mention the Princess. That seemed like a little much.

"I can't say that I've met many Saturn knights," she said. She knew they tended to have the dark outfits, and it made her wonder about what was up on the planet's surface. "I'm glad I got to meet you. How long have you been doing this?"

Maybe she was a page, but she wasn't acting quite like she was new.

Oh.

Oh!

Heat prickled in Niðavellir's cheeks and out to the tips of her ears as she watched the senshi- Cybele- fall into a graceful curtsy. She wouldn't have ever thought- oh, but she should have, shouldn't she? She was a knight, and they were all chivalrous and s**t and of course it would be some kind of formal tradition or whatever that she was supposed to bow or something, probably? Like, come on, Niðavellir had seen movies, and across the board knights bowed to ladies. That was how it went.

"Begging your most, uh- humble pardon, your... Ladyship?" Niðavellir offered awkwardly, and then, in case that wasn't bad enough, she tipped forward, board-stiff into some vague approximation of a bow, barely reminiscent of something from tv.

Yeah, that was good enough.

Like whatever. She couldn't be expected to just know these weird practices offhand, and no one had ever told her.

"I'm not really an expert or anything, only been at it a month or so- little longer, I guess. But I haven't met a Senshi before. I didn't know there was a formal, like, greeting situation?" There was a cat that she'd gotten the Gist from, and then a sparse scattering of some bizarre innate knowledge that she definitely hadn't had before she awakened.

But this girl- she was an Eternal! She must know everything that was up by now! "So you got any tips for someone like me or what?"

Ladyship. Oh. Oh no.

Her technical title was Princess, and she could live with that. She had the dress that she'd slowly adjusted to wearing, the wings and the heavy crown. There were knights from her world, now, and if they wanted to swear loyalty to her, to say they were hers, she would do what she could to live up to that, to protect and serve them.

But she didn't need this, didn't need people acting like she was better than them and looking embarrassed that they hadn't remembered to bow to her.

"I'm just Cybele," she said, trying to brush it off with a small laugh instead of blanching in front of this girl who was trying so hard. "And it's not a formal greeting situation. I just like to have fun with it sometimes. Play the part a bit, since we've got the skirts and the tiaras."

When she asked for advice, Cybele paused for a moment, thoughtful.

"You did well with the youma. We can spar sometime if you want me to talk a look at your combat skills, but it looks like you have the basics down." She paused again. "Make friends, I think. I hate it when people feel alone in all this."

"Oh. Oh, yeah. 'Just Cybele,' playing the part... Hmm..." It did make her feel a little better to be assured that she wasn't breaking some bit of formality that may or may not have existed between Knights and Senshi; Niðavellir didn't want to look like a bumbling imbecile or anything, but she also didn't completely grasp what their relationship was supposed to be. Her little wonder was on Saturn, and there was just a single Senshi for the whole planet, but a bunch of knights (who also maybe didn't like their Senshi? She wasn't sure; a lot of things were really, really unclear). But Cybele seemed cool, and they were both still humans from Earth at their core.

"I guess if I was playing the part right, I'da swept you off your feet already. Like, killed a dragon for the fair lady or something." She crunched down on the end of her sucker, tossed the empty stick toward a garbage pile near the side of the alley. "I guess Youma are the evil things in this scenario. ...Don't think they have as much fight as a dragon would. And the stupid Youma are, wellll..." She flapped a palm dismissivly, as one might do to disperse dust.

And yeah she should probably be happy that the most common enemy for her to face was pretty dumb and not always that threatening- But that did make it hardly worth showing off to an Eternal Senshi. Cybele probably didn't even have to blink at stupid Youma to have them reeling at her majesty! "Woulda been cool if there were real dragons flying around, though! Then I could feel like a real Knight, like from an action movie or something!"

She could a been a real hero if the enemy was more... notable.

"You musta seen way more dangerous stuff. I've never taken a class or nothing, so I don't know much about 'real' fighting. I'd love a chance at having a beautiful maiden throw me around-" Niðavellir snorted softly, giving a little head shake. "'Taking a look' at my combat skills, I mean. I'm game whenever, wherever. I don't have a ton going on besides this and work, so, like- anytime is good for me, really." And since she hadn't so far made a habit of talking to anyone about what she did in her spare time, it might be nice to have Cybele for that, too...
