Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Things may be peaceful in Tendaji these days, but that doesn't mean that trouble doesn't suddenly appear out of nowhere. In fact, you just happen to stumble upon trouble and must figure out the best way to step in and help (or not, if you're more of the troublemaker type).

[ This is a roll and react event. So roll the dice and react to the prompt below depending on your number. If you're RPing with more than one person, have one person roll and all players react. ]

Elka 1

The noise in the inn was that of constant activity and conversation. Almost every table was full of different groups of people. Some were families having a nice dinner out together. Some were travelers staying in rooms upstairs. Some tables were full of residents of Neued meeting for various reasons. As Elka weaved through the tables, she caught snatches of talk about all sorts of things from a hunting trip to a secret birthday party planning. Normally, she would be finding as many opportunities to listen. Work was so boring, just walking from one table to the next, delivering this or taking an order for that that she had to find amusement wherever she could. How else was she supposed to get through the day? But it was just so busy today, she never had a chance.

Returning some dishes to the back, the Ice woman sighed, stretching her arms above her head. Just a few minutes of rest was all she wanted. No sooner had she stopped did she hear a voice from behind the door telling her a customer wanted more wine. She gave another sigh and walked back out, grabbing a bottle on the way past the counter. Moving towards the table with a waving man, she uncorked the bottle and started pouring into the empty cup. She was far too tired to even notice who was sitting there or even how many of the chairs might be taken up by someone.

Straightening the bottle and fixing back the cork, Elka still barely looked at him as she told him "Anything else, sir?"

Kayde 1

That was another job done and more money in the bank. Kayde was feeling extra proud of himself for that one. It had started off a bit difficult and he wasn't sure if he'd manage to finish it. But finish it he had and even earned a little bonus for it. He was so much closer than before in scrapping up his side of the funds for the move to Matori. Just a few more months should be all they'd need to be ready.

Provided Elka wasn't spending more of her share than she should be. Kayde knew she wouldn't be able to resist a little shopping here and there. He had prepared for that, as well, by giving himself a larger end goal than she had. Having lived so long without a permanent home, he was used to living more frugally. So long as he had his basic necessities, a book or two, he was content in life. That was not so for Elka. She was used to living in a mansion, having servants doing everything for her, and not having to watch her spending. Even now, after living like a "charity case", as she would have put it, it hadn't dampened that part of her all that much. He didn't mind. He was used to hard work and would gladly do most of it if it made her happy.

To make himself happy, he decided to stop in the inn for a little dinner and hang out with her for a bit before he headed back to his room at the boarding house he was staying in. But when he entered the place, it was jam packed with people. He could see Elka, along with some of the other serving girls, rushing about trying to serve orders. He intended on turning around and leaving instead of adding to the bustle, but he was quickly caught by the innkeeper, who ushered him towards a table with a kindly smile. She was a friend, so he allowed himself to be steered and sat down. No sooner was he than she was rushing towards the back, hollering for a girl to go take care of him. That girl, of course, happened to be the one he was here purposely to see.

Kayde grinned at the distracted look in Elka's eyes, as she poured his drink. She didn't seem aware in the slightest who was sitting there. He couldn't blame her. It was super busy.

"Your famous dish," he answered with a little smirk, leaning his elbows on the table. "And your dazzling smile."

Elka 2

"What?" This comment caught Elka so off guard, her face didn't know what emotion to express. First there was shock that anyone had the confidence to say that to her in the first place, just out of the blue like that. Than anger flashed across her features at the audacity of some strange man saying that to her. As if she was just some common....Some common....But than she looked up at his face, a quip on her tongue, and all the expressions seemed to flicker across her face in the span of a few seconds each.

Kayde!

Of course it was Kayde. Who else would have the nerve to waltz in here and say that where everyone else could hear. Her pretty mouth twisted in a scowl as she put down the bottle and slapped him hard on the shoulder.

"Why must you torture me so?"

Kayde 2

The Leaf chuckled, rising the drink to his lips for a quick sip. "You are the only woman I know who'd get mad at a compliment," he told her, shifting his body away to avoid more hits. He had noticed his own strength had been increasing, thanks to the variation in the jobs he took. Where before he was just practicing how to balance on ropes or summersault from a high place, now he might be lifting heavy bags into carts to deliver to elderly folk who couldn't do the work themselves anymore. It wasn't a real noticeable amount of muscle by far. But he did notice her smacks had been hurting less and less. Not that he had ever minded them to begin with. It was only a little bit of pain that didn't last past ten seconds.

"Alright. On my word, no more compliments. Better?"

Elka 3

"Why would that be better?" Elka muttered under her breath. Not quiet enough for Kayde to not hear her, judging by the way his smile brightened on his face after she spoke. All she did was roll her eyes in his direction and pick up the bottle to continue filling his glass with.

Suddenly, the world shook violently, sending glasses on shelves shattering to the floor. Elka swayed on her feet, swinging the bottle around to almost pour in Kayde's lap instead of his glass. If he hadn't been flung to the other side himself, sparing him wet pants. Some of the girls in the room screamed.

Once it stopped, all was still. Some stood by quietly, while others quickly fled for the outside or hid under the tables. Elka put down the bottle and placed her hands on the table, a little too shaken up for any quick decisions. Unfortunately, another larger quake soon followed that one. With a shriek of her own, the Ice woman lost her balance and fell hard to the ground.

Kayde 3

As Elka went falling to the floor, Kayde dipped off his chair on the other side of the table. He fell hard on his shoulder, at the same time that a crash was heard not too far away. The wine bottle that the woman had been holding had also fallen to the floor, smashing just inches from her head. He'd closed his eyes as the floor had come closer, but now he opened them to see the wine soaking into her hair from the other side of the table. He crawled underneath it towards her as the earth gave another shake. Someone was yelling close by, but he ignored them. They didn't matter right now.

"Elka! Are you okay?" He placed a hand on her shoulder, relieved to feel her breathing. There was a cut on her forehead and a few on her hand closest to the smashed bottle. That seemed to be the worst she had suffered.

Elka 4

With a slight groan, Elka carefully raised herself up on her elbow. A sharp pain in her hand alerted her to the presence of the broken glass and she held her hand up to see a tiny bead of blood on her palm slowly getting bigger. She could feel the steady fall of more from the stinging cuts on her other hand and forehead. It was enough to make her heart beat faster in her chest. Cuts and scraps were a common enough thing that occurred when you worked with knives and glasses. Broken glasses happened more than you might think, especially during busy days. But never had it been on her own skin. She really wasn't accustomed to seeing her own blood.

Elka scooted back on the floor, backing up underneath the table. The ground was still. Hopefully it was all over, now. There was yelling somewhere to her right, but she ignored it. Better people were here to handle whatever the problem was.

"Yeah. Should be." She scooted back further under the protection of the wood as a pair of thick men's boots came very close to stomping on her

Kayde 4

"That's good," Kayde answered almost absently, looking at the small trails of blood on her blue skin. It didn't leave him convinced of her state of being, however he wasn't about to argue with her. He could tell she was a bit shaken up and didn't want to make it worse with unnecessary comments.

Just than, a pair of legs appeared in front of them, quickly followed by the concerned face of the innkeeper.

"You two need any---Oh, Elka, dear, come here!" Reaching a hand underneath, Entaria grasped the wrist of the Ice girl, pulling her up onto her feet. Kayde followed, supporting Elka on her other side while the older woman still gripped her wrist. "Those are some nasty cuts. Here." Pulling a clean rag out of her apron, Entaria held it up to Elka's forehead. "At least it doesn't look deep." Another rag went into the young woman's hands for the cuts there, which she gratefully squished between her two palms.

Seeing that she was well taken care of, Kayde let go and looked around him.

It looked like everyone else had faired off about as much as they had. Someone was picking a small piece of glass out of a crying child's upper arm, but he didn't see anything else too severe. The worse of it was all from broken glasses littering the floor. One of the serving girls, a newcomer, could already be seen going into the back for a broom while the other went to get more cloths to help the wounded.

He turned back to the two with him just in time to hear protests from Elka being fussed over.

Entaria meant well. Elka didn't know why she was always so nice to her. Why she'd allowed her to stay here for so many years despite how bad of a worker Elka had proven to be on so many occasions. It was like the older woman was trying to step in as a mother figure for the girl who had been abandoned what felt like so long ago now. But Elka still couldn't stand all the fussing over her. Entaria kept taking away the cloth on her forehead, looking at it, and tutting to herself before placing it back. Elka was pretty sure she'd stopped bleeding long ago. She kept trying to say so, only to be hushed as a stinging poultice was applied to each of her wounds.

At least this was helping her get away from having to help clean all this mess. Would probably give her an excuse to do as little work as she could get out of for the next while, until her cuts healed. She certainly wouldn't be holding up any hot plates of food for a few weeks.

After all that was done, next she was being led somewhere to sit down, Kayde following closely behind, a hand still placed on her upper arm. As the excitement started to die down, all she wanted to do was lie down in her bed and stuff something in her ears for a bit of peace and quiet.

"...won't have to do any work until you feel healed up," Entaria was saying, patting Elka on the hand gently. All she did was smile and nod.

Kayde 5

Between the two of them, Kayde and Entaria patched up the Ice woman, each working on a hand. He had the side with the single cut and so was done earlier. He choose to spend that time sitting with the bandaged hand in his lap, gentle stroking it. Watching as Elka's eyes got more and more sleepy.

"Did you want to go lay down?" he asked as soon as the innkeeper had left them, reassured that her employee would be okay from here on out.

Elka 6

All day, Elka had been running around with one order after another. It was nice to finally be able to just sit down and not move. She could feel her eyes growing heavy, but she fought it. Here wasn't a good place to fall asleep. Her golden eyes opened just enough to see the dinning room was half emptied out as people left to check on family members or get medical help. Or whatever they were doing. She didn't really care.

Stifling a yawn, she scooted closer to Kayde and leaned on his shoulder, flexing her fingers against his hand. "No. This is nicer."

Kayde 6

Yes, it was. It gave Kayde the urge to wrap her in his arms and let her doze off against him. But that certainly wouldn't be appropriate out here. Instead, he pushed her gently away so he could stand up. She looked up at him with her eyebrows turned down, wordlessly annoyed at him for moving so quickly. She looked like a pouting child, sitting there with her bandaged hands in her lap. He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead.

"Stay. I just want to grab a broom and help clean up."

Elka 7

The kiss barely calmed her annoyance. Kayde was still moving away instead of staying there and keeping her company. And she was wounded. She needed comfort now more than ever before.

"What would I do even if I moved?" Elka asked, holding up her hands. The bandages wouldn't really hinder her ability to do anything. They weren't thick nor covered her entire hands, leaving her fingers free to move around and hold things. But, considering the cuts were on her palms, doing so would just be painful for the first few days. Especially right now, with them so fresh.

Her frown deepened as Kayde merely gave her an apologetic smile before moving away, grabbing a broom. He returned to her, flashing her that handsome smile once more before changing his focus on sweeping the broken wine bottle she had been holding just a short while ago. After a while, she perked up a bit, instructing him on pieces of glass he was missing.

At least he was nearby. That was fine, she supposed. And it wasn't like it was bad to watch him work. Every now and than his hair would fall into his face and he'd brush it back, running his fingers through it. He never seemed to notice how good-looking he actually was. Or noticed the other girls also watching him when he did that. He only ever had eyes for her when he took small breaks like that.

Yeah. This was fine.

Kayde 7

Before long, the shards of glass were all swept up into a pile, than pushed into the pan and tossed into the garbage. Next he grabbed a mop to clean the wine up. By than, most of the other shattered glasses and bottles had been cleaned up in a combined effort between staff and some customers. Suited him fine. That meant the faster he could return to Elka's side.

Kayde stood over her now, holding out one of his hands. "My attention is all yours, now."
