Likes: Animals, the forest, water, archery, magic, and nature.
Dislikes: The abuse of power, hunting for sport, most people, and misogyny.
Quirks: Wants friends and yet tends to push people away... Yeah... She's a mess
Hobbies: Making potions/poisons/medicines, swimming, and playing with animals.
Goal(s): Would like to become a medicine maker and open up a little business where she can treat both people and animals. She would like this business to be in the neutral territory since she has no allegiance to any place.
*Personality: Lara tends to come off as kind of cold and even b*tchy to many people who meet her casually on the street. She purposely puts up this touch front because she distrusts people a great deal, however, if you watch how she is with animals that is the real her. Lara truly is a kind person deep down who wants to help people (who are deserving of it). When conducting business Lara puts on this sales charm she calls it. She can be very persuasive and borderline manipulative but hey business is business to her. She doesn't care much about ripping people off because she tends to target people who she can tell have money to spare. When providing medicine or potions to those who truly need it and don't have the money she will either come up with a very fair deal or will give it away for free.
*Bio (At least 8 sentences): Lara was separated from her human family at a young age so she doesn't remember much about them. What she does remember is that while her mother we never mean to her she clearly didn't love Lara like a mother should a daughter. Lara's father on the other hand adored Lara with every fiber of his being. He made a living hunting and selling what he caught and often he would bring Lara on his hunts. It was because of him that Lara got into hunting in the first place. His only flaw in Lara's eyes was that he saw hunting as a game as well as a way to provide. he enjoyed doing it for sport and that lead to him getting in trouble with a hidden group of faeries in the forest. What happened was that Lara's father accidentally killed a faerie that was in the form of a doe, and as a result he was punished. The faeries has an "eye for an eye" kind of policy so they transformed Lara's father into a buck and told him that if he managed to live for a month they would turn him back and let him go home.
Unfortunately, Lara and her mother had no idea this was happening. They worried that Lara's father had been hurt by some thieves or a wild animal while on a hunt. The first week they were both frantically trying to find him, the next Lara's mother started to worry that he was dead and that they would starve, the third she started spending countless hours working as a seamstress to try to feed her and Lara. The tireless hours working non-stop made her bitter and eventually Lara's mother grew to believe that her husband had just ditched them both. She started becoming more outwardly cruel to Lara. She told Lara that if she had never had her she wouldn't have to work so hard, and she blamed Lara for her husband's leaving. Lara didn't understand the accusations at first but soon enough her mother came right out and admitted that Lara was not her father's biological daughter. She had a foolish fling one night and has always regretted it. She figured that Lara's father must have found out the truth and that is why he left.
Lara couldn't believe this. She thought her mother was just angrily lashing out at her and therefore believed her to be a liar. Right after that she took the bow her father made her and left to try to hunt. Despite only being 8 at the time she felt like she had to do something. She believed that if she proved her worth to her mother she'd stop acting so cruelly towards her.
Sadly, Lara struggled to hunt for many days. She was only a child after all. She became so obsessed with proving herself that she even started sleeping in a tree in the woods, refusing to go home until she caught something. Then, on the last day of the month, she awoke to find a huge deer starring up at her from below the tree she was sleeping in. Immediately, Lara grabbed her bow and struggled to aim at the deer. Despite her noticeable hostility the buck did not run away. It kept hitting the tree and looking up at her as if to try to draw her attention closer to it. As Lara took aim she saw something in the buck's eye. It felt familiar, but she couldn't put her finger on it. "I'm sorry... But I'm so hungry..." she whispered as she let the arrow fly.
The arrow hit in the body of the buck and it collapsed. It was alive, but dying. Lara jumped down from the tree and took out the small knife her father also gave her. He taught her wear to stab a deer so that it would all end quickly and as she rested on hand on the creature to steady herself and overwhelming feeling engulfed her. While she couldn't read the creature's mind she felt it's sadness and its pain. It wasn't scared to die but more so was sad for Lara. It seemed to feel pity for her. Lara couldn't understand this at all and began to ask the buck for answered out loud.
"I don't understand... I'm trying to be fair... My mom and I have to eat... I'm sorry!" And with that Lara rose her knife to stab the creature only to hear a loud snap echo throughout the area. With a gust of wind the buck turned back into her father and Lara screamed. She dropped the knife as shock washed over her. She cried as she saw her arrow sticking out of her father's gut as he gasped for breath. Despite his pain he looked at his now human form and smiled. "Finally..." he said softly as he beckoned Lara closer. Lara quickly crawled over to him, apologizing, and begging for forgiveness. He calmly told her that it wasn't her fault and that he was actually proud of her for trying to take care of herself and her mother. He had taught her well. Lara then tried to get him back into town but her father said there was no point. She was too small to drag him all the way back there in time. This was the end.
For what felt like forever Lara laid there screaming and crying as her father stroked her hair. His breathing became more shallow and his movements slowed. When it seemed like he was seconds away from death a faeries appeared. Lara, having never seen a faeries, didn't know what to make of him. He silently looked between Lara and her father and said, "You knew. I mean, not consciously, but a part of you knew it wasn't a deer. How?" Lara didn't know how to answer that question. To be honest, that was the last thing on her mind. For the time being she was more concerned about her dying father. The faeries man, being able to tell where Lara's mind was, sighed. "I cannot save him. I would get in trouble just for turning him back before his time was up. You see girl, your father committed a crime against our kind. He killed a fae who was roaming the forrest in the form of a doe. His punishment, well, was this. The deal has been made and cannot be undone." Upon hearing this Lara's sobbed even harder and her father, with the little bit of life left in him, asked if another deal could be made to ensure that his family would be ok. "You sir are in no position to make deals. Your life will end any moment now so there is nothing that you can promise that we can ensure you deliver. This child on the other hand, can. I sense some magic in her veins. Magic that humans don't tend to just naturally possess. I have suspicions that this magic is tied to my people and if it is we have the right to know how it ended up within a human. I am willing to make a deal that if this child comes with me to be studied by my people I will ensure that she and her mother are well taken care of. Do we have a deal?"
To this Lara replied no because she wanted her father's life to be part of it. The faeries was outrage by her foolish boldness. How dare a human child address him in such a way. He had half a mind to leave her right then and there but Lara's father spoke up. He encouraged Lara to take the deal and promised that he'd be fine. He believed in an after life and said that he'd always be watching over Lara. With his encouragement Lara took the deal and was ripped away from her father's arms the moment he took his last breath.
Skipping over some time let's just say that Lara ended up staying with the faeries longer than expected. They told her that there was no time limit put on their deal so their could technically "study" her for as long as they want. They were actually able to find out relatively fast that Lara was of faerie blood though. It was believed that her mother was telling the truth about having an affair and she had slept with a man who was half faerie. This would explain Lara's faeries magic but her lack of any faeries physical traits. The only trait they grew to notice with time was that when Lara consciously used magic her eyes flashed a light blue for a quick moment. Since the faerie never met someone like Lara, who had only a little of their blood and yet retained their magic, they decided to put her through tests. For years they tried to train her like other faerie children, but that didn't seem to work. Lara's magic was more limited and she got tired faster than the other children. This resulted in her being outcasted by the faerie kids and her mentors were often rude to her since she was so far behind. The one faerie who was nice to her, surprisingly, was the one who made the deal with her in the first place.
For a while, Lara rejected his kindness. She blamed him for her father's death and her misery. Every time she'd blame him he'd tell her that both were inevitable. He could no undo the wrong her father had done to his people and even if he did not take Lara away she would have been miserable in the care of her lousy mother. Lara didn't understand how it was that the faerie man seemed to know so much about her family and a few years later it was revealed that they were related. What happened was the man had his own secret affair with a human woman which wasn't allowed by his people. This resulted in the birth of a hybrid son, Lara's biological father. His son's birth had to be kept a secret or his people would be outraged. Both the faerie man and his human lover agreed to lie to the child about his father. The human woman admitted to her child that his father was a faerie but said that he had died. This prevented the child from ever seeking out his father and thus kept him hidden from the rest of the faerie. The man eventually went on to become a healer. He had nature magic that allowed him to use the elements to heal people. He apparently met Lara's mother when she was going through a mysterious illness which no other doctor could cure. The two spent quite a lot of time together as he tried to figure out how to heal her, and during that time Lara's human father could rarely see his wife because he had to travel far to hunt (the animals were migrating farther and farther from their town). Thus, the two had a short lived romance that ended once she was completely cured and Lara's human's father returned home. After that the half faerie packed up and left town.
From what Lara could gather from this story that made the faerie man who she made a deal with her biological grandfather, which was crazy considering that he only looked 22. He said that he wanted to take Lara in as a way to test his people's tolerance. He figured that if they accepted Lara they would accept his son as well. This outraged Lara because that meant that there was a chance that the faerie could have had her killed if they decided that would not tolerate any kind of faerie human mix. Her grandfather ensured her that was impossible because of the deal they made. You see, faeries take their word very seriously, and since Lara's grandfather promised she'd be well taken care of the faeries couldn't kill her or severely mistreat her in anyway. The worse they could do is reject her which many did until she started getting better at controlling her powers. Still, Lara was upset that this was all never about her but rather about some father who she never met and didn't care to meet.
For a long time she was mad at her grandpa but kept his secret. She figured they'd both be in trouble of the faeries knew that they were related. Eventually, she slowly started to come around since her grandfather admitted he was wrong to use her in that way and he did everything he could to gain her favor (including gifting her and helping her with her studies). The two mainly bonded over potion making, which was the one bookish thing Lara seemed to be good at. As the two grew closer the faerie court started to worry. They held a little meeting when Lara was 13 and asked what the two intended to happen in the future. Lara said she was just there was as long as the faeries would keep her, and her grandfather admitted that he had begun to see Lara as his own and would like to keep her. This stirred a debate which ended with the court deciding to send Lara back to the place where she came. She was to remain there for a week and they were going to observe to see what her time with the faeries had taught her and how the human would impact her lessons.
After that she was brought to the edge of the forrest where her grandfather gave her the address of where her mother now lived, but he warned her that time changes humans in ways unlike it does faeries. When Lara found her mother she barely recognized the woman. Faeries hardly aged with the passing of time, but humans, they seemed to aged so drastically. She was also surprised to see that her mother had remarried and had a new daughter who, from what Lara observed, she treated far better than her. At first, this arose anger in Lara. Enough anger to set a hoard of rats upon the little dress shop her mother now owned. After taking time to think about it though, Lara realized that time had changed her too. She no longer spent every day mourning her father, and she had even begun to see the man who allowed him to die as family. What did that make her? As a result, she returned to her mother's shop and made her presence known this time. She used her magic to command the mice to leave which caused her to collapse right after. Her mother, not recognizing her as her daughter, offering to pay Lara for her aid and even asked if she needed help getting home to her parents. Lara's eyes started to tear up in that moment but she refused to cry. That woman caused her enough pain as it was. She refused to let her cause anymore.
Forcing herself up Lara said no and refused to take the money. As she walked out the door all she said was, "You better not forget this daughter as you did the last." At that Lara's mother seemed to get hit with recognition but before she could act upon it Lara was gone. After that, Lara travelled to a different town. She didn't want to risk running into her mother again. Once there she spent the rest or her week begging for money and food, and most people ignored her. She started to see humans through the eyes of faeries. She saw what the faeries meant when they called humans selfish and destructive. What they did to nature was despicable and they all seemed to look out for themselves. That's certain what her mother did.
When her week was coming to an end Lara was about the head back to the woods when a mysterious strange found her and gave her a pretty big donation. As she turned to thank him she noticed his pointed ears and some marks on his skin. He was a faerie. Lara immediately asked him what he was doing in a town like this, to which he laughed. He explained that he travelled often since he went where the sick were and right now the town they were in was full of sick people. He asked if Lara would allow him to check her to make sure that she wasn't carrying anything before she left. He promised he would not charge her and if she wanted to ensure that he wasn't trying to do anything funny he could perform his health check with an audience. She agreed and right there in the square he set up a little work space and called for all the children to come get a free check. Lara was the first person he check and he came out completely clean. When she was done she stayed back to watch him work and saw how well he got along with all the children. He was very gentle towards them.
When he did come across a sick children he went to give the child a bottle of medicine, but Lara noticed something off about it. She quickly grabbed it and said that it wasn't the right color, and without taking the cap off claimed that the smell was horribly wrong (because of her animal instincts and all). The man didn't see what the problem was. he claimed he had just bought this medicine from a trader down the road yesterday. The trader ensured it was legit but Lara swore that it had to be a fake. She informed that man that while she was young and still had a lot to learn she was studying medicine and was pretty sure this one was bad. The man brushed aside her skills but to prove her point Lara forced him to smell it. When he did he agreed that the smell was off and further inspection proved that it was expired. The man was impressed with Lara in that moment but she shrugged it off saying "I can point out when something is wrong but I can't tell you how to fix it. What does that say about my skills?" The man laughed at that and said "Noticing a problem is the first step to solving it." After that he went through all of his medicines and got rid of the ones he and Lara found to be bad. He claimed that he usually made his own medicine but his busy schedule had prevented him from finding the time as of late, but with Lara's help the two were able to make enough to treat the town in no time.
It wasn't until the work was done, and Lara was starting to head out, that she realized she never learned the faerie doctor's name. When she asked he admitted that he was only half faerie and said that his name was Frederick Highbrooke. Upon hearing the last name Lara recalled her grandfather's story and realized that all along she had been talking to her biological father (since her grandfather mentioned that the fake name he asked his lover to call him to their son was Highbrooke). The man then asked Lara for her name since he had kept it a secret as well and in that moment Lara made a decision. She said he name was Lara Hollowbrooke. she decided to name herself after the father who raised her with love and the father she had grew to admire within such a short time. She then asked if he wouldn't mind traveling with her since the roads could be dangerous (even though at this time she already knew how to uses knives and a bow and arrow). He agreed and she lead him to the forrest where the faeries resided.
Now Lara wasn't foolish enough to bring him exactly to where the faeries live. She knew that the faeries were watching her, because they said they would, so all she did was camp out with Frederick and wait. After a night of camping her grandfather appeared and informed her that bringing an outsider didn't make her look good in the eyes of the fae people. Lara, having become kind of a smart @ss, replied, "That's why I didn't bring him to where we lived. I just wanted to bring him to your attention." Frederick was surprised at the sudden appearance of a faerie. He had never met one in his whole life. He was filled with questions and as he started listing them all more faerie showed up. They were surprised that Lara came back but even more that she brought someone. They asked her why she made each decision and her answer was, "I'm not human, but I'm not faerie either. I'm something other, likeFrederick here. I brought him back because I figured if you all wanted to learn from me you might want to learn from him. He has had a lot more experience with humans than I have. I've spent the last few years living with you all after all. As for why I came back... there's nothing for me with the humans. No one who I care about. The only family I have left is part of the faerie," and as Lara spoke she looked right at her grandfather and even he was shocked. She had finally accepted him and he had come to love her more like a daughter than as a granddaughter.
From that point on Lara considered part of the faerie. She was renamed Larzel Hollowbrooke. As for her biological father, he continued to live amongst the humans because that was where he had built his life. He and Lara agreed to keep in touch with each other though. To this day he doesn't know that he is her father. Lara is not seen in faerie as her grandfather's daughter but rather as his student so their names are not the same. He is her primary mentor and as such and keeps in contact with him the most. Once Lara turned 15 she took on the job of trying to connect the faeries to the human world. While for a while she also hated the human world Frederick helped her overcome that. He wrote letters to he explaining how humans were more good than bad. he told Lara to think of her father (human father) as an example. Lara now makes a living by trading potions, medicines, and poisons. She no longer lives with the faerie but rather in a small treehouse she built in a different part of the forest. She decided that she shouldn't limit herself to either world and should make and effort to understand both parts of her, so that is what she is aiming to do. She also hopes to help the faerie understand people better so that maybe human faerie mixes like her and Frederick won't have to fear judgement.

*Strengths: Hunting (for food, not sport), good at controlling her animal magic, negotiating, and weaponry (archery and long knifes).
*Weaknesses: Due to only being part fae much of her magic has limits (if she uses too much of it she will tire out certain abilities that come natural to her won't make her tired though [empathy towards animals and animal instincts], sometimes her attitude gets her in trouble, tends to be distrustful of others, is prone to getting in over her head (acting without always thinking), and admittedly is a little more street than book smart (but still has some bookish knowledge).
*Abilities:
Animal Magic
- Lara can perform magic related to animals. Some of these magical abilities happen naturally, for example her animal like instincts and her ability to connect to animals on an emotional level. She can occasionally command an animal to obey her at will but the command can only be something simple and it takes a lot out of her.
Empathy
- The ability to perceive the emotions and feelings of others. She automatically does this for animals but needs to put effort in to do it for people.
Mind Link (later will be revealed that she can use this on people as well as on animals)
- Lara can only create a mind link with a creature who willingly accept it. If the other being denies the mind link it will fail. The mind link allows her to establish telepathic communication with the being she creates with, and the two can share their feelings, thoughts, and memories through the link. Lara can also accomplish something called scrying through the link which allows her to perceive things through the other being's senses. In turn, she can reverse the scrying and allow who she is bonded with to perceive things through her as well. The mind link naturally makes her empathy abilities stronger when it comes to the being she is linked with.
Medicine/Potion/Poison Making
- Due to being raised by those with more magical talents than her, Lara relied on this as a way to blend in with the other around her. She also makes these to sell and/or trade. She is admittedly better at making poison than medicine but she is willing to learn.
