This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested!
You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a very large-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.
At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. Maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.
Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.
Hit Points: 60 HP Damage: 5 HP each time you attack
If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.
Either outcome, once finished with 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:
1-5: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large. 6-25: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 26-95: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it. 96-100: Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

There was a thrill of success as they left once again to look through the woods for more turned chosen. They had left the rescued snake in the inn to be cared for and kept an eye on. Lex did not want to go snake wrangling again, though it had went well.
And since they were already filthy; Horribly so, these clothes were going to be burned because they were certain they were never going to get out the smell. Lex had went back out into the swamp with Beth, following the trail of something big and heavy, judging by the mud splatters.
"I hope it isn't Griffin, I really don't want to fight a Rhino." Not at all. Big Rhino. No want. They ran their fingers over their weapon, thoughtful. What could they do against a Rhino.
A bellow and a startled noise escaped them as something dark, large, and smelly ran past, and yeah those were horns. "Chief Bogo?" Lex questioned and lashed out as the beast turned and tried to catch them with a horn.
"Oww. I hate the police." They said faintly.

Beth knew she had dragged Lex out into the woods in the first place, but the bloom was starting fall off that rose for her. Between the disappointment of the flower and the continually deteriorating state of her clothing and personal hygiene, she was starting to hate this place. But all of the excitement just seemed to spur Lex on, so when they asked if Beth would come with them again for more adventure, she was loath to refuse them.
She worried that Lex might go anyway.
She squealed in surprise and tried to whip the beast before getting knocked to the side by one hard shove from the animal's head. She got a closeup view of those hooves and silently promised herself not to get any more acquainted with them. She pushed herself up and backed behind a tree, trying to regroup and figure out a plan. "Lex, are you okay?"

"I am fine, mostly. Just this one is larger and more mobile then the usual creatures I end up fighting." Lex picked themselves up and sighed, rubbing more mud onto their jeans. Lost cause there.
Certainly hit harder then the deer and gator. They watched carefully, managing not to get ran over and grazed the flank that went by. "Are you okay Beth? I wasn't expecting this, out here."

No, Beth decided, this was not fun at all. She tried to whip the buffalo from behind the safety of the tree. The glancing blow connected, but even with such a small target, the beast managed to slam into the tree and hit her arm. Beth drew in a gasp and threw herself away from the tree she had been sheltering behind as it shuddered from the impact.
"...Honestly kind of questioning our luck right now, Lex." She opened and closed her hand, rolled her wrist and stretched her arm out to make sure she had full range of motion still. The movements were a bit stiff, but her goddess's favor was still holding.

"You know what I'm glad about? That our gods or goddesses are protecting us, because I'm sure if a water buffalo hit us, it would hurt a lot more if they weren't." Yay for gods, and goddesses.
"I want to punch Circe in the face," Because at the moment, it wasn't their habit of running out into danger, without a plan that was an issue. It was the Witch, who turned someone into a buffalo. They lashed out and grinned as they felt themselves connect hard.

Beth laughed, a bit desperately and too loudly. "I'm lighting all of the incense to Hera when we get back." She joked, gratified by the solid hit she got on the buffalo's rump. But when it turned to face her, she wasn't laughing as she tripped more than dodged its horns. The glancing pain at her ribs made her gasp, and she sent a silent thanks to her goddess for Her favor.

"Same, Luck and Chance and Hermes, I need to get an altar set up for Hermes. With little silver bunnies," Lex said and dodged frantically, just managing to hit the buffalo as it went by and falling back.
"You okay Beth? Just have a bit more to go! And then, I think we should just stay in camp... for a while." They had more then enough adventure after this one.

This was starting to be not only not-fun, but actively terrifying. It looked hurt, and her heart went out, but then it tried to trample her. It was a very near thing and though it caught part of her toe, the favor held.
She had to pull herself up by a knot in a nearby tree and lashed out a glancing blow. "That's a lovely idea," she called to Lex, hearing but not seeing him. It was hard to get the breath for banter.

Lex punched out and scrambled away. "Mmh, certainly we deserve a rest for attempting to save this creature, person, from the swamp." They twisted around and moved towards Beth, wanting to make sure she was okay.
"Just a little more Beth." They gave a lopside smile. "We're almost done, lets get them down and check on everyone else."

Beth crept around the tree to see Lex and waved to indicate that she was okay. Exhausted and frustrated, yes, but not gored by an animal.
And then she was promptly knocked over by the enraged and terrified water buffalo charging from behind her. Some instinct told her to tuck and roll, so that's what she did, though the wind got knocked out of her from the first hit and roots scratched at her face.
From her knees, she unrolled and used the momentum to strike at the animal, with no small amount of satisfaction when she hit it across the nose. It might not have been the most powerful attack she'd unleashed, but hitting it at all was an amazing accomplishment for her.

Lex struck and struck hard, semi fuled by rage and terror as the buffalo charged Beth. They hit hard and hast and stumbled to get out of range of the kicking leg.
They grunted as they hit the tree, fingers tracing over their shoulder and came away a little bit blood. Well there went that shirt. "Beth!" They called.

Almost there, Lex had said. Well, time to test those words. One more strike...that glanced off the buffalo's large back. But, like the straw and the camel, that seemed to be enough. It stumbled around a bit before finally settling on the ground at Beth's feet. At her poor, ruined heels. She let out a shaky breath and gently put a hand on the animal's head. It breathed, painfully sighing, but it seemed docile enough. It closed its eyes at her touch.
Beth looked at Lex and gave them an exhilarated grin. "We don't make a half bad team!"

They.. they had tamed Captain Bogo! "Not bad at all!" Lex said cheerfully, moving closer to Beth and the heavy water buffalo. "We make a rather good team, I think." They leaned forward to pet the water buffalo, stroking over the mane and came away with a flower. "Ooh, more moly."
Now that it wasn't trying to kill them, Beth had to admit that the water buffalo was kind of cute, if stinky. She petted it on the head and cheeks, saying in a baby voice, "Aw, it's okay Chief Bogo, I know you didn't mean it. It's okay."
Feeling rather like a Disney princess, she led the water buffalo back to camp, feeling tired but well accomplished. That really wasn't so bad. Maybe they could go out once again and rescue some poor humans. Maybe she was finally getting the hang of this. And her clothes were ruined anyway. Might as well make the most of her efforts.
