This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a very large-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. Maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 60 HP
Damage: 5 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down below 5HP, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished with 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-25: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
26-95: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
96-100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

All Asher really wanted right now was a real, old-fashioned Coke: cold and filled with sugar and calories, fizzy and refreshing. He was still a bit hungry, didn't eat quite enough of that stew, and the heat left him agonizingly thirsty --

But, all things considered, he was afraid to eat. And afraid to drink. And that meant no Coke, which left him cross.

He was most of the way back to camp, woefully un-soda'd, when he ran into the moose. For a moment he just blinked at it, slowly, uncertainly, fairly sure that there was still a tie around its neck. He was still staring at it dumbly when it charged.

Mal was not on the path so much, but he caught sight of two things. The moose, and Asher. And he liked Asher, so he wasn't about to let a moose run him over, at least not yet. He hooked an arm around Asher's waist and yanked him out of the path of the moose. It was definite a moose.

"Careful!" The moose was still wearing a tie; it made Mal glad that he'd stuffed his tie into his pocket, instead of leaving it on and loosened. Too easy for it to be a weapon in someone else's hands. He made sure Asher could get his feet under him again before he let go of the smaller man. "Don't want you run over."

Was he meant to be grateful? Probably, but it seemed that a thank you was simply not in Asher's DNA. Instead, he was annoyed by the rescue -- drawing his weapon as he regained hsi feet, mouth pulled down into a scowl and just a brief look shot toward Mal. Maybe he was already predicting the teasing.

"I'm fine." He snapped it, and then stabbed out at the beast, only at the last moment realizing that it was likely turned, and regretting the force of his attack.

The scowl and the brief look got a grin from Mal, but there was a moose to deal with. Maybe as the battle fell into a rhythm, he'd bring it up. But for now, he didn't, just stepped after Asher and swung. Not with all of his strength, because the tie told him that this was a confused innocent, but they needed to winnow him (or her?) down to something manageable to catch.

A moose was a big thing to catch. "I know you're fine."

It was an -- odd statement. Or maybe something about Mal's tone that he couldn't quite put his finger on. It drew Asher's attention away from the effort of striking down this poor turned sap, and turned his blow into a loose smack before the moose swept its head sideways and knocked him away with those massive antlers. It made Asher grunt.

"What the hell are you doing out here, anyway?"

"Looking --" Mal slipped sideways, avoiding most of the moose's attack. It was still enough to make him stumble, but his return blow was solid enough that he thought they had a good chance of catching -- it.

"--for Misha." Some other comment was floating around in the back of his head, but he didn't bring it up yet. He'd save it for when they were safer. It was a pretty good one, to make that glint show in his eyes.

"Which one is Misha?" He licked his lips and this time, after the moose smacked him -- flagging, maybe just a little -- Asher caught the antlers and tried to hold the beast's head down. It slowed it, anyway, left it thrashing and groaning for a bit before it shook him loose.

Who was Misha? Mal hesitated, and when he did, torn on how to describe her, a swing of the moose's head knocked him sideways. He fell against a tree with a grunt. "The -- lovely young lady in the nice shoes. Gray eyes." He regained his feet again. "Right now she's some kind of large cat, it looks like. Non domestic, about the size of a retriever."

He looked apologetic, but at least they were working to tire the thing out.

"You need to chill." Asher said it to the moose instead of Mal: his tone sharp and chiding, scowling up at the beast. As it turned its focus toward him, he lashed out with the butt of his dagger to knock it upside the head. It was a glancing blow, but made the moose reel a bit, at least...

"I don't think he can understand you," was all Mal said, but it was a perfect set up for his next blow, and he hit the moose maybe harder than he meant to. Still. It was still moving too much for him to happy. "And how the hell are we going to get him back to the camp? Or contained at all, for that matter." It was a lot of moose.

"The racoon understood!" It was somewhat indignant, his attention flicking back to Mal -- and, though his blow only glanced off the moose again this time, like a gnat against its great hide, something about the beast's expression had wilted and become less threatening. The eyes that blinked at them were slow, tired and worried, head lowering. There was sense behind them. Maybe the moose did understand.

It groaned something out, a bellow at the pair of them, and took two steps back, the crazed panic going out of its expression. Asher blinked.

"Alright, maybe you're right." The crazy panicked light had gone out of the moose's eyes. And Mal was willing to give coaxing it back to the campsite a whirl, even if he thought it was silly.

He watched it as he reached out to lay a hand on the moose's fur. It felt a little like touching a deer, and made his serious expression break into a brief smile. "Hey there. Hey. We're fine, you're fine, right? Let's go, we're gonna figure this out and get you back on two legs."

Mal kept a hand on the moose's fur and kept coaxing in the direction of the campsite. He found a flower tangled in the moose's fur on the way, and tucked it into a pocket.

It had been Asher's idea, but that didn't necessarily mean that he wanted to be in charge of it all. Not when Mal was doing all the work, and doing a perfectly reasonable job. Instead, he shoved both hands into his pockets and trailed in the man's wake, careful to stay out of the way of any potential moose kicks -- shaking his head just a little bit as they went.
