The DawnClan camp is located in the center of a ring of bushes and brambles that have grown thickly together over time, in the north west of their territory. The cats of the Clan have wound this natural barrier even tighter with thorny vines and brambles, leaving only a small walk way open for cats to enter and exit. They have done the same with all the nests, so that rain and snow stay outside where they belong. The leader's den is near the center of camp, and right alongside it is a thick stump. That is what the leader climbs to address the clan. Going clockwise from the Leader's den, they are in order - the warrior's den, the apprentice's, the nursery, the medicine cat's, and the elder's.

-->It is currently the end of leaf-fall, about to turn leaf-bare. It is late afternoon, on the night of a full moon. This will be the first gathering since the formation of FloodClan, so it has been about a moon since Doestar passed. Stormstar will soon announce who is attending the gathering. <--

Forestfern had woken up in a panic, sitting bolt upright in her nest and panting as she stared around her den with wide eyes. Early morning sunlight had streamed through the brambles of her den. She could hear the soft chatter of her clan mates who had risen earlier in the day.

Slowly, she forced her breathing to calm. She was fine, she was safe, and so was her clan. Nothing had changed. She sighed softly at herself, before slowly starting to groom herself, smoothing her fur to ease her tension.

The nightmare she had was one that had been plaguing her for nearly 3 moons now; since even before Doestar's passing. Every time, she could hardly remember any details - though she could recall her mentor's voice. Each word barely even a breath, spoken in her ear so she wouldn't miss it. 'A falling star ushers in a Storm. Beware the flood that follows' She still couldn't make heads or tails of what it might mean. She had her assumptions, of course - the coincidence of both Doestar's passing and Stormstar's rise as her replacement was too convenient of a fit. But a flood...? She would have to speak with her fellow medicine cat tonight, and see if perhaps they knew what was going on.

Her day was spent in the usual way, checking on the elders first and then the queens, before rounding back to her den to check her supplies. She found nothing out of place or terribly short. With all that done, she found herself growing hungry, and left her den once more to see how the warriors had fared. As luck would have it, she emerged just as her littermate was returning to camp, jaws full of prey.

--~--

Petalfall's morning had begun with the dawn patrol, and the rest was spent hunting. With leaf-fall under way, prey was starting to become a bit more scarce. Not enough for anyone to go with an empty belly, but enough where anyone out to catch anything felt the difference as it took longer to catch an acceptable amount to bring home.

It was days like these, Petalfall felt, that they were starting to feel the absence of the warriors who had left most. She had had to go out a few times, just to feel that she had done her part. She supposed it may not have been necessary; with Cloverstream gone, there was one less queen to worry about feeding. Still, it felt wrong to not have the she cat out with them either, even if she had been starting to slow because of her swelling belly.

Petalfall's final trip into the camp saw her carrying a squirrel and a field mouse into camp and dropping them on the fresh kill pile. There was enough of a difference from the last time she had entered that she felt safe assuming that the elders and queens had been fed. Seeing Forestfern emerge from her den, Petalfall took her mouse and another back up and padded over.

"Hungry?" She offered, dropping the mice at her sister's paws. Forestfern purred happilly, rubbing against Petalfall's side.

"Thanks!" The two settled down near the medicine cat den, eating together and then sharing tongues.

--~--

Redbriar followed the path along the stream, stopping every few moments to pause and mark his scent. So far, the only traces of DuskClan were scents blown across by the breeze. He hadn't anticipated much else; the gathering was tonight, and it wasn't often anyone wanted to stir up trouble right before.

The sky above was a rosy pink as the sun sank below the horizon. There was a bit of a chill to the air, the cool nights a solemn promise that greenleaf was officially over. Redbriar glanced back, seeing the rest of the dusk patrol was not far behind. Sunwhisper had paused, scenting the air herself. When their eyes met, she shook her head. Nodding, Redbriar continued along.

"Sometimes it feels like just yesterday I was leading you this way for the first time." Redbriar remarked lightly as Sunwhisper caught up to him, standing at his shoulder. She purred a bit, butting his shoulder with her head. Redbriar couldn't help but purr himself as they continued on their way, eventually padding into camp with nothing to report.

Those, he believed, were the best sorts of nights. He watched Sunwhisper wander over to the fresh-kill pile for a moment, wishing for a split second to hear her voice again as she called out in excitement for what lay there. He shook his head, padding over to the deputy and letting them know they hadn't found much.

When he turned to the fresh kill pile himself, he already saw Sunwhisper settled near Iceleap, tucking into a squirrel while Iceleap fought to de-feather a robin. Sunwhisper looked amused at the she-cat's struggles.

"Stupid feathers... I have to be mouse brained, why did I pick a bird?" He heard Iceleap grouse, before watching her finally tuck into her prize. Finally moving to pick up a chaffinch, Redbriar settled off to the side and began his own meal.

Stardancer looked through the trees in front of her, her ears swiveling as she scented the air. She had been sent out to patrol the Duskclan borders with two other warriors and they had spread out a bit to cover the area more quickly. The Silvery cat didn't see anything out of the ordinary and sadly she didn't see any other cats across the way either. As she continued along the border that separated their forest from Duskclan she pushed down her disappointment. She could smell some stale Duskclan cat scent but it stayed on their edge of the line. They had a few problems in the past with hunting area disputes but lately things had been rather calm. She didn't expect any problems today. Stretching Stardancer renewed the scent marker before once more continuing with her patrol

The She cat managed to catch a rabbit as she returned home and as she scrabbled down the ridge with it in her jaws she felt proud that she was helping to feed her clan. She tried to mew a greeting to Sunwhisper and Iceleap but the rabbit in her mouth prevented it. Embarrassed she raised her tail in greeting instead and moved out of their way as they continued their meal. As she laid the rabbit on the pile she nabbed a bird for herself. Taking it over to a patch of sunlight she began plucking the feathers out. Her eyes were drawn up as she saw her brother Dewheart making his way back into the camp with his apprentice. She waved her tail in greeting before she sat up, beginning to groom her thick fur into place. She spent special time on her tail, it was fluffier than most and tended to catch lots of burs. It would soon be time for their leader to come out and let them know who was going to the gathering tonight. She really hoped she was going. She always loved seeing all the other cats. Plus things had been so tense in camp lately. It was obvious they weren't particularly wanted here and it would be nice to get a breath of fresh air""

Dewheart watched with narrowed eyes as Silverpaw circled him. He kept her in his sights, keeping his weight on his back paws more. She was doing well, not telegraphing her planned movements and keeping her weight balanced. Suddenly she sprang at him. It was a good attack but he was ready. Sprinkling to the side he battered her flank as she passed him with sheathed paws. The younger she cat lost her balance as she flew by and landed on her side with a huff. As she regained her breath Dewheart sat, curling his tail around his paws "That was much better. You didn't make it apparent when you were going to attack. However when you did attack you left no room for adjustment. You lunged with all of your weight so it was easy to knock you off balance. " He finished.

Silverpaw looked a bit irritated so he rested his tail on her shoulder. "You have improved a lot. Now lets head back to camp. You go on ahead and see if you can catch anything. I will follow after and watch" He mewed. Silverpaw took off without much more prompting and after a few seconds he followed. It didn't take long for her to catch a squirrel and she made a short detour to catch a small vole as well. He was proud of her as he caught up right before she made her way onto the camp. He gave her a warm look and a nod before heading to the fresh kill pile. He grabbed a small mouse from the pile and noticed Stardancer off to the side, grooming her fur. Rolling his eyes he made his way over to her. Laying next to her and beginning to eat. He knew why she was grooming, she was hoping to go to the gathering tonight, not that she wouldn't, it was her first gathering as a warrior. Honestly he couldn't care less. He didn't often go to the gatherings because typically he caused problems at them. This time however he wanted to attend. He wanted to make sure no fights broke out and that if they did, he was there to back up his sister

Mistwalker stalked through the trees silently. She wanted to use the cool mist covering their territory to help her catch some unsuspecting prey. She had already caught a finch and two voles, now she had her sights set on a plump rabbit. She had been following it's scent silently for the last few minutes and she was growing close. It was soon within reach and with a slight adjustment of position Mistwalker leapt from her bush, pouncing on the unsuspecting rabbit and killing it quickly.

Her throat rumbled as a purr forced it's way up. Mistwalker knew she wasn't much help during battles, she was a horrendous fighter. But she tried to make up for it by being the best hunter she could be. She was silent and sneaky and one of the clans best hunters. Grabbing the rabbit by it's scruff she dragged it back to her pile. When she reached it her ears flattened momentarily, noticing the ground was disturbed, but as a familiar scent hit her nose she just sighed, dropping her rabbit and preparing for the inevitable. Even now she was just staring up at him balefully "Was that really necessary?" she groused, not bothering to try and get up. "It's always necessary dear sister" He said with a grin swatting her on the ear much to her displeasure "What would you have done if I were a Duskclan cat and not your loving caring perfect brother? Hmm, I am preparing you for battle" He yowled again, pretending to bite and tear at her throat as she lay there, unamused. "Runningfeather you pest, let me up and make yourself useful" She growled, batting at his face.

Sighing and realizing he wasn't going to her to play along Runningfeather rolled off of her and grabbed half of the kills to carry back "Honestly you are going to thank me one day" He groused, mouth full of fur. Mistwalker's only response was to swat him on the back of the head and lecture him about talking with his mouth full.

The two walked back to camp in companionable silence, reaching their destination with no issue and depositing her kills on the pile.

The two shared tongues for a while, both tired from all of the extra patrols they had been on to make up for the traitorous cats that had left. After both her and Adderstrikes fur were shiny and groomed she stretchd and stood. Following the tom out of the den.

Once he finished he began cleaning his muzzle "Do you think Stormstar will take us to the gathering tonight?" He asked Nightstalker, glancing over at his mate in curiosity. She huffed and finished off the last bite of her prey before replying "I hope not. I would rather stay here and protect the camp from a possible attack from those traitors." She growled, her claws sinking into the ground and the thought of those so called floodclan cats attacking her camp while they were away at the gathering.

Silverpaw made her way through the trees away from her mentor. She was still steaming from her loss. She hadn't won one of their bouts that day. Granted Dewheart was one of the best fighters in the clan but it was still frustrating. He gave her so many tips it was impossible to keep them all in mind at once. She gave a nasty bat at a leaf before sighing. It wouldn't do any good to focus on it. Instead she scented the air, catching the scent of a nearby squirrel. It was a quick clean kill and soon she was making her way back to camp. She caught scent of a vole when she was almost back and after a second of deliberation she put down her squirrel.

She tracked the vole to a nearby burrow, seeing it gathering nuts right outside. She gathered herself and lunged, batting the creature into the air, stunning it before delivering the killing blow. She was quite proud as she made her way back to camp. Dewheart even gave her a look of approval which warmed her fur. She put the vole on the fresh kill pile before bringing the squirrel to the Queen's den giving a small nod to the cats there. Once she had done that she made her way over to her brother Oakpaw. Purring out a small greeting "Hey Oakpaw" She mewed, nudging him with a paw.

Oakpaw looked up as Silverpaw joined him. He purred stretching his legs and gesturing with his tail for his sister to sit with him. He had been out practicing his hunting all day and was a bit tired. Oakpaw had come back and fed the elders before grabbing a squirrel for himself. He was rather full now though and pushed the rest of it towards Silverpaw "Here, I'm done, you can have the rest" he mewed.

As Silverpaw dug in Oakpaw made his way over and began sharing tongues. "So how did training with Dewheart go?" he asked. The disgruntled huff he received in reply made him sigh and run his tongue of the silver she cat's ear "He is just intense and sees a lot of potential in you. Don't take it too hard." Silverpaw didn't reply but instead began grooming Oakpaw's fur. The two sat and shared tongues, resting from their day and waiting for their leader to let everyone know who was going to the gathering.

xxx Stormstar stalked into camp just after sunset, without so much as an explanation as to where he'd been all day, and of course not one dared ask him either. There was a clear dichotomy between the two types of cats and how they saw him: They either admired and loved him or hated and resented him. But the common factor in those that remained in DawnClan was that every cat that stayed feared him. Leaping onto the stump just outside his own den he called out to his clan, his deep voice carrying throughout the camp.

"Let all cats old enough to climb the trees gather beneath the great stump for a clan meeting" He watched as warriors, elders, apprentices and queens gathered beneath them, his large brindle frame a stark silhouette against the darkening sky. "As you all know, tonight is a full moon, and I will be choosing a patrol to attend tonight's Gathering." He eyed the crowd, his tail tip whipping back and forth slightly. In truth he looked at his clan with a swell of pride. They were his kin, his new ShadowClan. There were some blemishes but the majority of those that polluted their blood had been purged and cut off like a diseased branch.

"Shadowstone, Iceleap, Mistwalker, Forestfern and apprentice" he couldn't be bothered to know the medicine cat's apprentice's name. But Forestfern was pure and loyal and he could afford to let her rogue apprentice tag along. "... and Stardancer" The she-cat wasn't one he'd normally have chosen. But he needed his loyal ShadowClan warriors to guard the camp lest Lynxstar foolishly launch an attack. Stormstar had spent the entire day tracking his traitorous brother and his tainted clan but had been unsuccessful, hence his foul mood. But he was nothing if not prudent, and kept his temper in check. He would find some cat to take it out on later, for now he needed to concentrate on the Gathering.

"If Lynxstar dares show his traitorous face tonight StarClan should hide the moon. His kind don't belong in this forest." He sneered, accepting the cheers that emanated from the mixed crowd. "Don't break the truce with DuskClan. But this so called FloodClan is a farce. We shall see if they even have the gall to make an appearance." His eyes glittered dangerously with dark unsaid promises. Dismounting the stump, he led his chosen cats out of the camp and towards the Gathering Hollow.

Shadowstone sat deep in thought as he watched over the clan in Stormstar's absence. He was curious to see how the gathering would go. He prayed that every cat would honor the sight of the full moon and not break out into a mass of fur and claws. Just as the black furred deputy rose to his paws, Stormstar reentered the camp; not one cat daring to ask where he'd been. Shadowstone didn't know everything, but he was assumed the responsible thing was to actually tell your deputy if you were going to be gone all day. Not that he would bring it up, he wasn't itching for a claw to the head.

Giving his head a shake, Shadowstone padded over to the foot of the great stump for the clan meeting. He supposed it was getting near time to head out to the gathering. Please let everything go relatively smoothly. A small nod as his name was called, Shadowstone listened carefully to see who else was joining the patrol. He was bringing Stardancer? Maybe his heart was warming? The thought was banished as soon at it had come at Stormstar's next words.

"What will we do if Starclan decides to hide the moon?" Shadowstone fell into step beside their leader. He prayed that didn't happen, he really hoped the truce would last as it was supposed to. But he couldn't predict the future.

Seeing their leader pad into camp, the cats in the clearing remained silent, most simply raising their tail in greeting out of politeness rather then a desire to engage. Stormstar kept many emotions close to the chest. Anger he wore like a trophy, radiating off him in a way that could create a barrier.

The cats gathered quickly, no cat among them feeling a particularly strong desire to have particular attention paid them when their leader was in an obvious foul mood.

When he finished speaking, the cats chosen rose to their paws, following him out. Redbriar stretched, commenting lightly to one of the passing warriors to let him know how it went. Sunwhisper moved back off to the side, shooting an uncertain look at her former mentor; she'd heard him among the cats who cheered, and she wasn't all that sure how comfortable she was with Redbriar of all cats starting to turn into a cat like-minded with Stormstar's beliefs. As far as she was concerned, all cats did belong in the forest, and if StarClan had granted Lynxstar nine lives... Well, he had to have his own rights, didn't he?

Petalfall had been quiet during the cheering, though she dug her claws into the Earth. She passed by her sister briefly, offering Forestfern a quick farewell and asking her what she thought Starclan would do. Forestfern's silence was telling enough, in Petalfall's mind. Her sister doubted StarClan would send any omen at all.

"Come on, Flarepaw. You remember the name of the other medicine cat, right?" Forestfern nudged her apprentice gently, leading her after Stormstar when he started out of camp. She hoped Flarepaw wouldn't take his actions to heart; He was being cold, certainly, but Flarepaw was a good apprentice and she knew it would be a crime to let what happened to Moonpool happen to Flarepaw. Hopefully, Stormstar would allow her to keep the apprentice.

"You don't really think Lynxstar will have the nerve to show up?" Iceleap mewed. Personally, she thought the idea was insane; the tom was already trying to pretend they had formed a real clan. Showing up to the gathering had to be crossing the line, didn't it?

Flicking the droplets of water from his whiskers, he stopped Shadowstone and Forestfern. "We have things to discuss, meet me in my den when you've had a chance to dry off. Forestfern, make sure Iceleap's shoulder is treated before coming. I will speak with her tomorrow morning." He said the last sentence loud enough for the wounded warrior to hear as she passed. It was unlikely she would have a restful sleep tonight. He looked up as curious DawnClan warriors, queens and elders began poking their heads out of their dens to welcome the returning cats. Speaking up, he addressed their curiosity. "This Gathering has been long and eventful. Let your clanmates and questions rest until morning. You will have your answers tomorrow morning." This seemed to satisfy most of them, as Stormstar was many things but he did not break promises to his clan.

Stormstar entered his den, his eyes adjusting quickly to the darkness. Working the water from his pelt he was able to go from dripping wet to damp by the time his deputy and medicine cat joined him in the den. It was designed for such meetings, and all three cats fit comfortably with room to spare. "You probably have questions for me. I'll let you speak first. I would like to hear whatever you're thinking-- nothing is off the table." Stormstar was tired and undoubtedly his cats were too. But a lot had happened tonight and he wanted clear air between himself and the most trusted members of his clan.

Shadowstone padded into the camp, ears flicking every so often in attempt to be a little less wet. Nodding to Stormstar, the deputy veered off to a drier place and gave his pelt a thorough shake. Deep in thought, Shadowstone padded to Stormstar's den with a sigh. Taking a seat and trying to make himself comfortable.

"It's a lot to take in." The black pelted tom murmured. It felt like so much had happened in a short time. "Floodclan is growing. We can't deny that the thought of joining would appeal to a few cats." Shadowstone looked up at his leader. "You know I'll stand by Dawnclan whatever arises. But what happens if we lose more of our clan? If we grow steadily smaller while Floodclan gains cats, what then?" Dawnclan was his home, he wasn't sure what he would do if it became too small to be a clan. "Starclan knows Lynxstar probably won't deny any cat to join his clan." Shadowstone sighed.

"If Starclan accepted Lynxstar and his new group of cats. If Starclan intends for Floodclan to be a clan, is there really anything we can do about it other than continue with clan life as best we can?" He wasn't quite sure what to say, but he figured he should at least try to gather his jumbled thoughts.

Just the he remembered his surprise border lining on outrage at the gathering. "We won't just, hand over part of our territory. Will we?" They had hungry Dawnclan mouths to feed.

"Of course, Stormstar, I'll be there in a moment." Forestfern promised leading the cringing warrior and her apprentice to the den. She shook herself off outside her den, trying to bring as little moisture in to her herbs as possible. Iceleap did the same, before sitting where instructed. Forestfern chewed up some Marigold and applied it to the wound, before adding some cobweb over it to keep the herb in place.

"You'll live to fight apprentices another day. Maybe next time just not at a gathering." Forestfern mewed dryly, ignoring Iceleap's feeble attempt to defend herself. Dismissing the other cat with a flick of her tail, she glanced over at her apprentice, "It's been a long night, Flarepaw. Dry off and get some sleep, the rain will be good for making the plants perk up." She mewed to her, before heading back to Stormstar's den. She took a seat next to Shadowstone, grateful that her pelt was at least only damp now. Still, she recalled her rude awakening that morning, and realized that if anything was on the table, she owed it to her leader to share what StarClan had been telling her.

"I feel like I should mention a dream I've been having since before Doestar passed. She told me to dismiss it, and at the time that seemed wise, tonight only proved that was wrong. I think FloodClan is more of a threat than they seem." She mewed, speaking slowly as she tried to carefully pick her words. "Mosspelt keeps visiting me and saying: 'A falling star ushers in a storm. Beware the flood that follows'. I think FloodClan is going to prove a problem, especially if Lynxstar actually thinks he can back up his threat of taking land from us." She pondered over Shadowstone's words when he spoke, trying not to let the thought sink to deep. He was right - she could see the appeal a fresh start would hold for many cats, especially since Stormstar was not always good at keeping his biases to himself.

"The cats who have stayed until now hopefully wont see any need to leave for a clan that even admits it doesn't have enough territory." She tried to sound positive, but with her own exhaustion tugging at her paws and mind, it was hard to do. All she wanted at this point was to lie and rest until morning. Or hopefully have a dream from StarClan that gave her some idea of how to ensure their own safety.

xxx Stormstar listened carefully as each cat spoke, taking a moment to weigh each of their concerns before speaking. "I appreciate that, Shadowstone. StarClan knows that DawnClan will need the full loyalties of its warriors if it's to survive. But you're right. We can't afford to lose any more warriors to FloodClan. But we can't fight an enemy we can't see."

The big brindle tom curled his tail around himself as his medicine cat spoke of the reoccurring dream she'd had. This was the first he'd heard of the prophecy, and he was surprised that Doestar had not shared it with him as deputy, but he hid his displeasure with his old leader behind a thoughtful expression. "I see. You were wise to tell me, Forestfern. But I am not Doestar, and from now on if a dream has but a faint whiff of StarClan I want to know about it." He said the words without anger, but he said them in earnest. His medicine cat was his eyes and ears to StarClan, and for whatever reason Doestar had seen and heard these things from StarClan and ignored them. Stormstar would not be so careless.

"So it's decided. We need to know our enemy, and I say we start with where they are." Stormstar nodded to Shadowstone. "I don't want to raise alarm in our camp, so the two of us will begin searching for their camp independently. Shadowstone, tomorrow morning have Petalfall lead a dawn patrol of cats of her choosing. While they are out I want you to scout out a corner of our territory. See if you can pick up the FloodClan scent trail from the Gathering. I will call a clan meeting upon your return to discuss what transpired at the Gathering." When the dark furred deputy asked Stormstar about Lynxstar's demands Stormstar met the other tom's gaze steadily. "We have no idea what the will of StarClan is concerning these... traitors. But the true test of this so called clan will be their first leaf bare." Stormstar's claws dug into the soft earth beneath him. "Whatever happens, the warrior code must be upheld. This territory has been claimed by DawnClan, and the code states that we must challenge all trespassers." The big tom bared his teeth slightly at the last word. A few beats passed and Stormstar relaxed, letting his fatigue show for the first time that night.

"Thank you for your thoughts. Continue serving your clan as dutifully as you both have so far, and right now that means getting some rest." Stormstar turned away as he dismissed the two, padding to his nest and settling down in it before drifting off into a dreamless sleep.

Shadowstone looked at Forestfern as she spoke. What was Starclan warning them about? And how could they ensure the safety of their clan? Green eyes moving back to Stormstar, the black pelted tom nodded at the idea. It would be helpful to know where they were, so that they would know which direction to have an extra ear to. Shadowstone flexed his claws. "I'll see what I can find."

Rising to his paws with a nod, Shadowstone padded out of the den as they were dismissed; heading towards the warrior's den to get some sleep before he would do some scouting. Sitting in his nest, he licked his paw and drew it over his face a few times before curling up and letting his eyes slip closed, finally letting the exhaustion of everything that had transpired pull him into a sleep.

        //////////

Green eyes blinking open, his jaw opened in a yawn as he rose to his paws; shaking his head to rid himself of the tiredness that lingered. Blinking a few times in the darkness of the den, his eyes landed on Petalfall and Shadowstone padded over to the she-cat, prodding her with his paw. "Petalfall. I need you to lead the dawn patrol today." He meowed once he had her attention. "I know you were up at dawn yesterday, but it'd be appreciated if you'd lead it again. You can choose which cats to take with you." He hoped the last bit would make it a bit better. If she did the dawn patrol with cats she liked spending early mornings with; it might make it a bit less boring?

Making his way out of the warrior's den, Shadowstone cast one look around camp before he trotted out of camp; his scouting now underway. He would start at the Gathering Hollow and see if he could follow whatever scent Floodclan left. He supposed last night, that would be the strong scent of wild garlic - if the rain hasn't washed it away completely.

"Of course, Stormstar. I'm sorry I didn't think of it again sooner." She mewed, listening attentively as he came up with a plan, instantly feeling better with the confidence in his mew. They would figure this out. She also couldn't help but feel grateful when he selected Petalfall to lead the next morning's patrol. Knowing her litter mate was trusted well enough for the task warmed her pelt a bit.

Nodding at their dismissal, she mewed a goodnight to her leader and deputy before padding to her own den to rest.

When she woke, it was reluctantly, from a kindly dreamless sleep. She couldn't help but purr as she stretched, grateful to feel rested after the night they'd had. She glanced over at her apprentice, seeing she was still asleep. She took the time to give herself a thorough groom, if only to allow Flarepaw a few moments more of rest. When she finished, she knew she couldn't leave her apprentice much longer, so she wandered to Flarepaw's nest and began to nudge her gently.

"Flarepaw... Flarepaw... It's time to get up. We have a big day ahead." Well, not that big. But it would be her apprentice's first trip to the abandoned two-leg dens since they had found her. It was one of the best places to find catmint, and with leafbare fast approaching, she wanted to have a decent supply prepared in case of a greencough outbreak.

--~--

Petalfall let out a small mew of surprise when she was nudged awake by her deputy. She had been dug in like a tick, dreaming of chasing something through low shady pines, the scent thick in her nose the way her father had once described. Blinking blearily awake, she realized it was her deputy trying to rouse her.

"Of course, Shadowstone, no problem." She mewed after a moment, taking a chance to stretch when he had padded away. Sitting up, she glanced about the den, trying to decide who would be pleasant company for the morning. Rousing Leopardspots and Redbriar, she lead the trio out of camp to trail along the northern border first.

"I hope we get back to camp in time for the clan meeting. I'm itching to know what happened last night." Redbriar complained.

"Mm, me too. Iceleap was limping, we must have missed something good." Petalfall agreed, following along the border next to the stream. At one point she paused, scenting the air and finding Shadowstone's scent. What was he doing out here? Dismissing the thought, she padded along.

When they finished their patrol of the border, Redbriar traveled back to camp to report their lack of findings to Stormstar, while she and Leopardspots split off to do some hunting. Petalfall found a rabbit, managing to catch it just before it darted into its burrow. When she met up with Leopardspots again, she had a chaffinch and a wood mouse. They padded back to camp with their clutch, setting it down on the fresh-kill pile.

--~--

Redbriar padded into camp and approached Stormstar, grateful they had nothing to report. "Everything was quiet on the border. If there's nothing else that needs to be done, I was thinking of grabbing Iceleap to do some hunting near the training maple." He mewed, waiting to hear what his leader had to say.

--~--

Iceleap had not slept well last night. Her shoulder ached just enough to make finding a comfortable position impossible, and Stormstar's quiet threat had plagued her thoughts throughout the night. He was going to claw her pelt off! She was reluctant to leave her nest when dawn came, but she knew she could only prolong the inevitable so long.

Stepping out into the morning light, she could see Redbriar with their leader. She saw the senior warrior glance in her direction, and hoped she would be able to go hunting with him. Perhaps if she could catch enough prey, she would be forgiven for last night's mistake.

--~--

Sunwhisper left the den shortly before Iceleap, picking an out of the way place to groom her pelt into reasonable shape. Just as she was about to head out of camp for the day, she saw Forestfern waving her over with her tail.

"Good morning, Sunwhisper! Will you accompany Flarepaw and I to the old two-leg dens today? It's one of the best places to find catmint, but I don't know if any rogues have moved in since new-leaf, and a little protection would be nice." Forestfern mewed. Sunwhisper dipped her head, waiting for the medicine cat and her apprentice to be ready.

𝔽𝕝𝕒𝕣𝕖𝕡𝕒𝕨 of DawnClan
Weariness crept through her slow-hardening muscles as Flarepaw followed her mentor along with the rest of the clan. The tri-colored cat was ready to drop if only because the Gathering was mentally exhausting, so full of tension and had far too many cats than Flarepaw was accustomed to. Forestfern mewed sarcastically to Iceleap about being able to get back to his paws.

When the she-cat suddenly turned her attention to the apprentice, the golden-eyed cat nodded readily. ""Yes Forestfern," she mewed even as she sat down and washed up, rasping her tongue against her fur to dry it of the water that had dripped onto them. As Forestfern left to speak with the leader, eventually the apprentice had settled into her moss nest and curled up. May as well try to sleep...

Before she really knew it, she was being nudged gently while Forestfern whispered her clan name. Sometimes the young she-cat found it hard to answer to it, but this time she did manage to slowly sit up, eyes blurry with sleep. "Mm'awake," she said with a yawn. Raising early was a habit she had to learn, especially when the clan needed you.

Following Forestfern out of the den, her paws stumbling a bit as she was waking up even as her mentor called to another cat. Blinking her eyes with a little more alertness, it registered that they were going to the old twoleg den she heard about that held the catmint. That was for treating what she learned as greencough. Thankfully she hadn't seen what it was yet, but she knew that it was super important to have catmint; that the illness could be deadly. Dipping her head to Sunwhisper politely, she began to keep pace with the two older cats. ""How do you gather catmint?" Flarepaw mewed her question as she followed, feeling a little more energetic now that they were going somewhere.

Leading the way out of camp, Forestfern headed toward the abandoned dens. After the rain, her paws were getting soaked, her pads sinking just slightly into the earth below. She couldn't help but think that she didn't envy the warriors - hunting like this had to be beyond frustrating. She also pitied Shadowstone - trying to look for FloodClan in this had to be a misery.

"We remove the leaves from the stem. I'll show you how when we find some." She mewed, eventually crossing the border and into the rows of abandoned two-leg dens. She opened her mouth slightly, letting the scents roll over the roof of her mouth, surprised when she was hit with the scents of at least a dozen cats. A few seemed vaguely familiar, but were so densely mixed with the others that she couldn't pick who they might have belonged to. Overwhelmed, she made a frustrated noise in the back of her throat.

"Stay close, Flarepaw - There are apparently a lot of rogues around here this year." She mewed, seeing Sunwhisper start padding closer to them, the mute cat's eyes scanning for any sign of the cats with her mouth open to scent the area. Forestfern lead them behind the first few rows of dens, eventually finding a den with catmint where the scents of cats was duller. Squeezing between two gaps in the fence, she padded over to the plant, grateful to see it seemed in good condition.

"Here we go. This is catmint, Flarepaw. Now, to pick it off, we do this..." She demonstrated herself nipping a leaf from the plant. "Now you try. Do your best not to chew the leaves. They taste and smell very good, but we're going to need to do our best to carry as many as we can back to camp. With so many cats around, I'm not sure we'll be able to visit again safely before the first frost. Sunwhisper, would you mind helping to carry some back?" She mewed. Sunwhisper nodded, dipping her head and waiting for the two medicine cats to make three piles, one for each cat to have their jaws full.

"Also... Let's not tell Stormstar about the rogues; so long as we don't run into any trouble. He's... Eager to find FloodClan, and I'd hate to make leafbare harder on cats who aren't doing anything wrong, especially with no confirmation. And we can't go find for ourselves with only one warrior." Sunwhisper nodded, purring to let Forestfern know she agreed with the medicine cat's logic. No need to bring trouble for no reason.

When they had picked enough, Forestfern let Sunwhisper take the lead back to camp, keeping her eyes pricked for any sign of trouble until they had safely crossed the border back into DawnClan territory.

((Sorry guys, keeping this in the DawnClan camp thread because I'm not intending it to be a long foray and I didn't want to waste a post on being short in here.))

Shadowstone paused for a moment outside of the camp before padding in with a rabbit in his jaws. He'd made it halfway back before he remembered the squirrel he had earlier and his promise to hunt again. Trying to forget the fact that he ate already, he placed it on the pile and padded over to Stormstar.

"Stormstar," Shadowstone dipped his head in greeting. Taking a seat by the furry tom, he flicked his ears before beginning his report. "The rain did a number on what little we have to go on; which, according to last night was the scent of wild garlic." The deputy scrunched up his nose at the memory. "I did follow the scent a little ways, starting from the gathering hollow - but I lost it after a while. I think our best bet, might be to keep our noses up and aware for any new scents as we patrol. And quite possibly increase the border patrols." Shadowstone shrugged. "I can try again once things have dried off? Maybe the rain didn't wash everything away." The black pelted tom murmured, looking at his leader for input. If he was going to act like he didn't have anything to hide, he would act like he normally did - which meant he had to look at Stormstar, because he was never one to shy away from their leader.
