Mommy used to say that if I wished really hard, I can make the bad dreams go away. She said I could light up the darkness and make all the pain go away.
Melody keeps having a lot of nightmares. She doesn't want to sleep anymore.
I made her try to sleep, then I wished really really hard that she would have nice dreams.
I stayed up all night wishing. And when Melody woke up, she said she didn't have any nightmares. She still dreamed about that girl. The one in the painting wearing a black dress.
That lady looks just like Melody. That's so weird. I want to ask an adult what's wrong with Melody. But I don't think they will tell me. I want to find out about that lady.
Daddy said he lived here in the sanctuary a long time ago. I think I know where daddy keeps his old journals. Maybe he knows who she is and why Melody keeps dreaming about her.

When I went to look at daddy's journal, I found a picture in there. It was of him when he was little and that lady in the painting. I recognized the building in the background of the photo. It was that really big house in the trees. I waited until Melody fell asleep and went to go there. This was the last chance I had to sneak out like this, since I was going to live with daddy now. I was able to get into the house okay. I think that lady and daddy are related because there are a lot of pictures of them together and with a girl with a horn. There is also pictures of that lady and a guy with a marking on his face like Melody. I think that guy is her daddy? Maybe if I ask my daddy, he can tell me who Melody's daddy is. And who the lady is. Were they both her parents? What happened to them? I want to ask Daddy if Melody can come with us. She has nowhere to go. I promised I wouldn't let her be alone. I took the picture of the man and lady. I'm going to show it to daddy. I don't want to tell Melody until I know for sure. Yeah.. that's what I'm going to do.
Leukos stared down at the ground as he shuffled his feet slightly, standing in the Main Building, waiting for his father to show up. It had been so long, he almost forgot what he looked like, what he sounded like. Leukos missed him dearly and even more so missed his mother. Leukos fiddled with the photo in his hand, staring at it intently, his eyes narrowed in deep thought.
“Hey kiddo, you’re gonna get wrinkles thinking that hard.” Lucian joked as he approached the small boy. His smile was soft but excited. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
Despite being being intent on his thoughts about the subjects of the photo, it was easily broken by the voice of his father. “Daddy!” he exclaimed and a smile swept over his face, running to hug him.
Lucian chuckled at Leukos’ enthusiasm, though he was just as happy to be reunited with his son. “Sorry it took so long.” He apologized then his eye caught something, whatever Leukos had been holding. “What do you got there?” he asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
Leukos hesitated then handed the photo over to Lucian. “I found this when I was walking around the sanctuary. Who are they?” Leukos stared at Lucian with concern and anticipation for any kind of answer.
Lucian’s face softened lovingly as he saw the picture of his mother but then it dropped into a grim frown as he noticed Rasiel was also in the picture. He sighed, then offered a hand to Leukos. “Let’s walk to our new house. I’ll explain on the way.”
Leukos nodded and took his hand, walking with him. He was relieved that he might actually get a real answer, maybe even find out if they were Melody’s parents.
“The girl in the picture is my mother. So your grandmother. Her name was Alice. She died a long time ago, before you were born. Alice was killed by the man in the picture now known as Rasiel the Killer. He disappeared and no one has seen him since.” Lucian tensed up, “I’ve been searching for him, the man that killed my mother. He will pay for what he did. Alice wasn’t the only one either. He is dangerous, and he’s killed so many people. Be thankful that Rhun has protected you in my absence, and that now there is a sanctuary to protect us all from people like him.” As they reached the house, he unlocked the door and paused, looking to Leukos. Lucian handed the photo back to him. “Why were you so interested in them?”
Leukos shifted uneasily, his eyes darting away. “No reason.” He forced out quickly.
Lucian opened his mouth to question him but then his eyes caught sight of something. Someone. A small girl was hiding behind a lamp post, peeking out shyly, a look of concern on her face. He looked curiously at her then back down to Leukos. Lucian sighed and waved her closer.
Leukos whipped his head to look at Melody with concern. As she approached cautiously and fell right behind Leukos to cling to his hand with her own, Leukos stood firm and looked at Lucian with determined eyes. “She’s alone… Please let her stay… I’m all she has.” He half-pleaded.
Melody peeked her head out and Lucian’s eyes widened. It all made sense now why Leukos had questioned the picture. She looked just like his mother, but the faint marking seemed to suggest a similarity of Rasiel though it was faint enough to be unsure about it. Though, it could be a pretty good assumption on who Melody’s father was. Lucian could feel tears threatening to find surface as the memories of Alice stirred violently. “Yes. Absolutely.” He answered simply, motioning for them to both enter. “What’s her name?”
“Her name is Melody. Professor Rhun watched over us together since she was born.”
Lucian took note of how close they seemed to be, nodding in response. “Well, Melody, I’ll take care of you. So know that you are safe here.” He felt uneasy about taking her in with the possibility of her being Rasiel’s daughter, but that was a chance he was willing to take. Especially to make his son happy.

“PUT ME DOWN!” Leukos screamed through a mess of tears as he struggled hard within Lucian grasp. “DON’T TOUCH ME, YOU LET HER DIE!!” he shrieked as he began to glow brighter.
Lucian hesitated, a pained expression on his face as he came close to the ground and simply dropped him, landing feet to the ground himself as he stared down at Leukos. He paused then kneeled down and hugged Leukos suddenly. “That could have been you.” He choked out, terrified of losing his son in the mess the EE had carved through the war.
Leukos shoved Lucian hard, knocking him back as he glared with an intensity that challenged the burning anger of the sun itself. “I wish it had been. I could have saved her. She didn’t deserve this.” He spoke with his voice bitter and full of spite.
“Leukos, you don’t understand! Those people would have killed you! Or worse…” his voice trailed off. “It’s why we fought to protect the future.. to protect you.”
“I don’t care about any of that!! You think I’m too young to understand what’s going on here! That you, and mom, and Andy…. You all fight to protect us. And with that comes enemies, but don’t you dare try to act like Melody is just a casualty in all this. She’s more of a family than you or anyone else has been!!” he yelled, finally letting out all the anger he kept within.
Lucian was silent as Leukos revealed how much he knew. “Luekos…” he whispered, fighting back tears. “I’ll find her.” He whispered. “The bullet… there’s a chance it didn’t kill her. If she’s still alive, they would want to keep her alive once they realize how important she could be.”
“Because she’s Rasiel’s daughter.”
Lucian’s eyes widened for a moment, then softened them again. He simply nodded, finally realizing just how smart Leukos was. “I’ll prepare to leave. I’ll get back Andy and Melody.”
Leukos glared, “I’m going too.”
Lucian glared back, “Absolutely not. You saw what they did to them, you think they’d treat you any better. You don’t have the luxury of being what they want to survive against them.”
“You don’t even know who they are,..”
“Luekos, I will not fight with you on this! I will have to talk to Rhun about all this anyway, and I will arrange for you to stay with him again until I return. That’s final.”
“What, because you think I’m too young to fight in the renegade? I’ve seen metas my age fighting on the news. I want to save her! She needs me!!”
“LEUKOS.” He shouted his name, anger rising.
Leukos narrowed his eyes then took a deep forced breath, still furious about it all as he turned and ran to house they stayed in without another word.
Lucian sighed. This was the worst, fighting with his son. But he knew Rhun will probably be just as upset to hear what happened to Melody. He dreaded it but still took out his cellphone and texted Rhun. They needed to talk. He said it was about Melody, but nothing more. He hoped this went well. He wanted to stay here at the house to make sure Leukos didn’t try anything stupid.
Blaise had been standing patiently in the park as she checked the time on her phone. Counting down the minutes before she would need to intervene. This was the reason why they always traveled in pairs, in case something went wrong. Which rarely happened, but it was always good to have back up when it did. She had let Michael take first contact this time around as he was the one given the mission specifically from Kate, despite her own orders from Rhun. Either way, they needed to retrieve Zaku and that seemed simple enough as she glanced back down at the time again, ’I know it’s not time to intervene, but he certainly is taking his sweet time…’ she thought as she looked up to the hospital in the distance. Maybe she should intervene already, Michael was usually finished by now, it was rare that he ever used the full time and the minutes were counting down fast. She put her phone away and began to walk toward the park exit, moving toward the hospital. She stopped suddenly as an obviously meta child came into the park. Quirking her eyebrow curiously. ”Hey.. what are you doing here by yourself?” she called out in a bit of concern.
Leukos tensed as Blaise called out to him. He narrowed his eyes in determination, looking over Blaise who looked definitely like a meta. ”I could ask the same.” he challenged.
Blaise laughed suddenly, entertained over his defiant nature, something she really like. ”I’m Blaise. What’s your name?”
”Leukos. Have you seen my friend, Melody? Some people took her and I’m looking for her.” he asked, his look still stern as he wasn’t sure if she was an enemy or ally.
”Melody… you know.. I’ve heard of her. We are looking for her too.” she noticed Leukos’ glare intensify. ”I’m part of the renegade. We are trying to get her back safely.” she further explained.
Leukos seemed to relax as he heard she was from the renegade. ”Let me help.”
”But you’re just a-..”
”A kid. I know. That doesn’t matter. I’ll do whatever it takes to get her back. I don’t care about anything else.” he interjected suddenly, his face still stern as he was fairly determined to save her.
Blaise smiled down at him, ”Alright, if you think you can handle it, you can help. You know what the renegade does, right? You know the sights might not be pretty, and you may never actually see her again..”
”It’s worth it. I will fight forever just to find her and save her. Please help me find her.”
Blaise nodded and then leaned down, removing his bracelet. ”Okay. But first..” she clenched her fist around the bracelet, crushing it with her super strength. ”We can’t have anyone claiming you. You are your own person.” she moved to pet his head when suddenly a roaring began slowly. Blaise narrowed her eyes listening, then gasped and shoved Leukos aside as Michael appeared right where they had been standing, with such a force that cracked the ground. As Blaise took in the sights, her eyes widened. ”Michael! What happened?!” she exclaimed in horror as Zaku was unconscious and bleeding out bad. Michael simply gave her a weak thumbs up and laid his head down on the floor, closing his eyes and sighed. ”Kate is so going to kill us!”
”Tell me about it.” he retorted bluntly. ”Hurry up and heal him, so we can get out of here, they’ll probably be here any minute.”
Blaise nodded quickly and started in on healing him. ”Dammit, he’s resistant to healing, it’s going to take some time.”
”We don’t have time, we have to get out of here.”
”No choice then.” she then heated her hands and began to cortorize the wound as best as she could for now, so they could get him to a hideout to heal him.
Michael opened his eyes and looked at Leukos. ”Not another one..” he glared as he winced to come to a sitting position.
”Another?..” she shook her head, ”He’s on our side. Luekos, help Michael. We need to get to the hideout.” she commanded as she picked up Zaku into her arms and took to the air to fly off to the hideout.
Leukos moved help up Michael but he swatted his hand away. ”Don’t worry about it.” he then grabbed Leukos by the collar and released gravity from them, floating off after Blaise. ”My name is Michael. I guess.. welcome to the team?” he was unsure if he was an addition to the team, or just a kid they were picking up temporarily. He never knew what Blaise intended.
