Aria was being a mother hen over her first baskets. She knew it, and knew that it would neither help them be ready faster nor be good to do once the baskets opened. But they were so precious and wonderful to her. Even if there was an occasional bit of flame that needed to be avoided. She wasn’t really sure what to make of those flames. After a bit she had realized she should have expected it, but somehow the fact that her children could have the fire that their father so wonderfully controlled had not crossed her mind.
But here Aria was, carefully watching the baskets for any sign that they needed something. The baskets were tucked in under the shade of a tree in a dirt circle she had made just in case. Aria was not sure what would happen when the babies came out of the baskets, but she didn’t want to be responsible for a repeat of the great fires.
The baskets were warm enough and not too hot, but Aria was fretting all the same. She fluttered her wings a little in agitation. It seemed like so long ago that the babies had been put in the baskets and they should be almost ready to come out, at least Aria thought so. In fact Aria had been hovering around the baskets for days now, determined to be there when they opened. She was barely eating and drinking, only enough to keep her from falling faint.
Aria watched the baskets and reflected on the luck that she had. The father, a kind fellow that had a great heart, had decided to stick around and help get the foals going. With the addition of the flames, Aria was grateful. She would have been lost in teaching the foals how to control their wonderful ability. Ash could have simply gone on his way when she told him about the coming foals and told her to deal with them herself. There had been no plans for foals after all.
With a bit of a start, because she had been so intent on watching the baskets, she realized it had been long enough that she could make music again. With a bit of concentration she began a soft melody that had tones of happiness and love. It was something she had composed upon finding out she was pregnant for the babies. She played it often, but alternated it with other melodies so as to not have the babies only know the one. She would have sung along with the music, but it took too much concentration for her to do both. Smiling down at the baskets, Aria believed she was one of the most fortunate souls out there right then.
