Edel was feeling rather apologetic for having left Ivar alone hanging while she was exchanging greetings with some of her old friends and classmates. It at least served to let her know who she could contact for help, though she would later be informed that the phones would be of no help in this place of poor reception. She would assure him that they would be most helpful, despite the dodgy looks of a certain reaper and the brash wildness of a certain Valkyrie, though it was an unspoken understanding that it would only apply to situations calling for a fist fight.
It wouldn't be a matter, she hoped, since when it came down to people who were able to reason calmly, there was the two of them.
They had both arrived at the same conclusion that the best they could do for now, was to enter the village and get some information. At best, they would be able to find a secure way back home, if not, lodging for until that option is available.
They avoided taking into account the idea that they may end up sleeping on the streets just yet.
Walking down the street of worn down, dilapidated buildings, the ghoul turned to her company. “Would you have heard of the rumours?” she spoke calmly, while keeping an eye out for someone they could ask for directions. The man simply scoffed, but his tone was grave, “Experimentations? I'd sooner believe that it's merely a cover-up for some less than good party to take over the plot of land.” They continued to walk in step, scouring the empty streets.
It was a while before he spoke again.
“Are you perhaps worried?”
“Of course I am. Afraid too.” she answered back casually, despite showing no sign of being so.
“Why? Would you be able to provide some reassurance?” she teased nonchalantly.
The two of them fell silent once again.
Turning the corner, the pair spotted a cloaked figure crouched on the ground, quivering and muttering to themselves slightly. Ivar took it upon himself to make the introductions, asking if there were any landlines or means to contact anyone outside the town. The figure simply stared at its toes, keeping mum.

“Would you be able to tell us a place to stay then?” she spoke next, crouching down herself to level her gaze with the villager. From a corner of her eye she could see that the dark elf was uneasy, but she assured him that it would be alright.
The villager continued to stare blankly at their toes, not letting slip a word.
Edel peered up at Ivar, who simply gave a shrug. The ghoul then thanked the villager and got up, and the two continued to make their way down the street. Neither of them would admit aloud that the exchange had been a little unnerving, and wished not to think that this would the the response they would be getting from now on.
“Sorry to have brought this upon you,” she finally broke the silence. The man simply sighed but did not reply immediately, more concerned about the present than what had already happened.
“Well, I agreed to it,” he answered, slowing down his pace a little. “And it was not as though I had no interest in this place either. This used to be quite a popular tourist attraction, but I wonder what happened...” Whoever it was that caused this did not seem to have monetary interests in mind. His thoughts drifted back to the rumours of experimentation, but he quickly dismissed them as they came.

The light stood out from within the fog, and the pair found themselves standing outside an open pub. They would surely find someone to speak to in there, but the man was rather hesitant on letting her enter the premises. The other option to leave her waiting alone was far less ideal, however, and after much contemplation they entered the pub one after another.
They would be relieved to find the pub mostly empty, save for a figure or so slumped over the tables. While that hardly guaranteed the safety of the place, it at least meant that they would have to fend off fewer people.
At least, the ones that were not hidden.
A bartender, also cloaked, stood behind the counter wiping dry a mug. Yet the shelves behind him that were supposed to be lined with drinks were empty.
Ivar supposed it wouldn't be rude to begin by ordering a drink anyway, pulling up a seat by the counter and ushering Edel to sit beside him. A bottle of red liquid was conjured up from under the counter and served into a simply glass.
“Thank you,” he nodded, sliding a few silver seeds over the counter. The dark elf's eyes drifted to the phone tucked away at the end of the counter table. “And if you don't mind, may I borrow the phone to make a call?”
The bartender obliged with a hearty grunt, and the man got up from his seat to dial a few numbers. It was a rather long conversation, which left the ghoul dangling her feet awkwardly as she waited.
The man finally returned, looking much more relieved.
“I've managed to secure the trip back, but that would be in a day or two,” he explained, fishing out his wallet once again. “Meanwhile,” he turned back to the bartender, “Could we have a place to stay? There is an inn above the premises, am I right?”
The bartender simply grunted again, and another dozen silver seeds were slipped onto the counter.
“We will be back later in the day,” Ivar nodded, taking a look at his drink that had been left sitting. A look of uncertainty crossed his face briefly, before he picked it up and downed the drink in one go.
“Shall we?” he asked, the look on his face inscrutable. Edel nodded quickly and rose from her seat, bowing shortly to the bartender as they made their leave.
Outside once more, the ghoul loosened her lips and spoke. “Are you alright?” she asked, her tone laced with worry. Ivar simply coughed and cleared his throat.
“It was very dry.” he replied simply, turning to look at her with an assuring smile.

Keeping along the main street, the pair found themselves retracing their steps.
“It may appear,” he divulged he contents of his phone call conversation, “That not all of the rumours are unfounded.” His tone was grim, and his voice a little hoarse from the drink before. He couldn't quite grasp the true nature of this “Insanity” from the brief exchange, but he understood that there was an alleged virus that they had to be wary of. That would explain his hesitance in taking the drink from before, but seeing as there were no immediate effects, it would be best not to panic.
“Then, we should stick in groups perhaps,” she frowned, “It would be good to find Shun and Hel again.”
She drew a little closer to him, making way for a cloaked villager that was stumbling down the street. Edel had intended to stop them and ask about the village, but an arm quickly pulled her aside to just in time while the village simply crashed onto the floor, unconscious.
“Uhm.” An arm was offered out for her to take, but the man averted his gaze. “Please stay close to me.”
