When I got MH Tri, I got used to the switch axe for my main weapon. When MH3U came out I mained Dual Blades. From what I have seen it's almost a combination of both techniques and I hate how I can't play 4U yet. I also enjoy the gun lance for some reason, I guess because I like to get close quarters with the monster. Although if it came to gunner, I would have to use a bow, which I noticed gained huge improvements. (Sorry for this add on if you've heard it before x.x. The guild system is still broke so you would have to actually press reply for someone to know that you replied to them. Since subscription buttons don't exist, if you want another way you can add

Bow is good for staying safe, and the new mechanics for it help out significantly when aiming your various trick shots, but overall it's not the greatest weapon. It's good for online play, but you're going to be missing a lot of breaks and there's no way to cut tails.
Heavy Bow Gun is hands-down the most powerful hunting tool in the game; the Gravios bowgun in artillery mode absolutely shreds monsters to pieces. The trade-off for that power is an extreme lack of mobility, however, so you need to know your monsters before you can really take advantage of it.
The demo for MH4U is free and has been on the E-shop for a while now; you might still find people poking around on it to play some online hunts. The 3 hunts are Jaggi, Tetsucabra, and Gore Magala.

I'm actually really excited for the Insect Glaive 3nodding I don't have the funds either at this point, but I'm gonna get it soon hopefully. I currently use the Long Sword in Monster hunter 3 Ultimate.
Long Sword is amazing in 4U; there's a move that, so long as you start with enough spirit, you can extend a spirit combo indefinitely.
It also got a pretty harsh nerf in that critical draw no longer applies to the spirit combo.
In G rank and enjoying experimenting with new weapons. The new mechanics applied to some weapons are extremely fun.

INDEFINITE SPIRIT? wow such an improvement, sounds like the final combo on the 3U dual blades, just it doesn't stop. That would be perfect for a paralysis blade.

and there's still even better sets out there, and I've still got a handful of elder dragon hunts and apex monsters ahead of me. It's like this game never ends!

Haven't you figured it out? Monster Hunter is designed to last a long time. In fact there is even a Monster Hunter Online in Japan, which used to be called Monster Hunter Frontier.

This set is not visually appealing in the slightest, but the skills fit my playstyle so well.
