Let's hope Kyrie is doing this right!
This will be a Private Roleplay between Dark Side (Kyrieko) and Ophiuchus (Uta)!

The air was cool as it sifted through her feathers and mane, making the mare shiver and toss her head back slightly. She pawed at the earth, looking towards the darkening sky, wings flared as she sighed. It felt nice to feel the wind. As if she were flying high in the sky. But her wings ached from the small bit of flying - or gliding - she had been doing earlier, to at least keep the muscles built up in her wings. And it had given her dear companion, silly creature that he was, the chance to expend some of his energy. Her familiar did love flying with her. However she'd sent him to find fruit. Which was... probably too difficult a task, really. But he'd manage.

Maybe...

The alicorn huffed, making a face. Perhaps she should have followed after her friend? But how was he going to get more confident and better if she didn't baby him! A strong gust of wind blew her mane into her face, causing Dark Side to sputter and shake her head while trying to untangle it from her horn.

After several minutes of head tossing and a little bit of cursing under her breath, she manged to free her horn, wings fluttering agitatedly as her tail flicked. Like it wasn't bad enough the thing was broken, but it also had to be an inconvenience at the best of times! Sometimes, Dark Side had to wonder how the Uni Soquili could stand having a horn!

"Maybe it would have been better if the entire thing had been broken off." She muttered quietly.

Kyrieko

The stallion picked his way through the woods, wings tucked tight against his body as he navigated through the trees. He was, thankfully, not a very large stallion, due to his breed, but he was unfamiliar and quite unaccustomed to the Kawani's terrain. Having grown up in the desert, having absolutely no knowledge of what had been outside their lands, Ophiuchus still found the woods, the ocean, the plains, a bit of a mystery.

But, here he was, trying not to get his own horns caught by low hanging branches, and trying to find an appropriate deer trail. He would need eat soon, as his hunting luck had been minimal at best, these past few days. He wasn't quite desperate, but he'd feel much better after making a kill. Unfortunately, the dark clouds blotting out stars on the horizon, and the occasional downdrafts of cold air, told the stallion that rain might very well be in store for the area this night.

Rain that would be refreshing, but would also clear the woods of any and all scent trails. Bah.

Creeping through the dark forests, looking akin to a ghost, the stallion paused as he heard a rustling sound. Movement. It wasn't far off, and from the sound of it, it was large enough to be. . . a buck? Elk? Moose? Hunger demanded he investigate, and so it was, he quietly stalked forward, doing his best to keep in the shadows, and not cause too much noise. Unfortunately for the stallion, all he managed to see was that of some soquili, shaking and tossing her head like some crazed thing.

Giving a loud snort, he glowered at the broken horned creature. While he could relate that having a horn, or in his case multiple horns, was trying from time to time, he was too proud to actually agree. "Perhaps you could stand to have your mane sheared. Then you would have little much of a fight." He spoke with disinterest, almost a haughty and van sort of air.

It seemed a practical solution.

The mare was startled by the snort, half jumping and half twisting to face the culprit. Her wings flared for both stability and to try and appear 'bigger'. There was that moment of silence, where bright blue eyes widened at suddenly having the presence of another soquili appear. And then her ears flattened against her skull and her tail whipped from side to side.

"Perhaps you should have your horns checked, as I fear they are putting too much pressure against that skull of yours." Speaking of horns... Dark Side took in the multiple set the stallion had. And his clawed feet. Strange tail...

She puffed out a breath, taking a hesitant step back. Was... was he one of them?! Those foul and despicable creatures!

Her eyes narrowed, a hint of fear creeping through her veins. "What are you?" She asked neutrally. Quietly. That was a valid question, was it not? Perhaps a bit rude, but she needed to know. Then again, wouldn't a Kalona lie? But he... didn't seem the same. Unless that was a trick too.

Dark Side waited for a response, standing... mostly still, with her wings folded tightly to her side.

Ophiuchs narrowed his gaze a bit as he stared at the dual toned mare. She was quite the sight, for having a broken horn on her head, and so much mane; no wonder she was getting caught on the limbs and branches of the forest! Still, her response to him was unpleasant, at best, despite being accustomed to the stares and the surprise.

His kind were not entirely well known; the claws, the beak, the whip-like tail, the jagged spikes jutting from his cheeks and forehead, the abundance of feathers, the peculiar cut wings. He knew he looked the unlikely sort of stallion, and he knew many assumed him a predator -- they weren't wrong. Though he ate meat, the grey beast was not at all a threat, at least not physically. . . His attitude could stand some improvement, but the wind 'suti halfbreed had picked up being as cold as ice for a reason.

It was easier that way.

He knew he didn't belong here in the Kawani any more than he belonged back in the desert, the outcast of his the air ulun'suti clan! He knew the shame he'd involuntarily brought his family, and their stares, and glares, and glowers had told him everyday he was separate and unequal. So, the bitterness had grown within, though his pride wore it like a sheild. He was not here to make friends -- it was simply easier to stay on his own, to not bother with others for long.

Dark Side was no exception.

"Charming." He retorted with a scowl, sizing up the mare, just in case she decided to become aggressive. Thankfully, she seemed more put off by him, which could serve to his advantage. The sooner he spooked her off, the better. He didn't have time to chit-chat, didn't have time to be stared at by the likes of some mare. His tail swished behind him, and he gave another small sniff. "What I am is a stallion on the hunt for my next meal. And what of you? What are you, mare?" He asked coolly, indifferently, though his violet gaze never left her own.

He didn't really care. . . He had a suspicion -- she was a wind of some sort. But he'd never actually known one to have a single horn like that. She was not of hipp'gryph blood, and the single spiral horn was of. . . . of a unicorn. So she was a mix, perhaps? A mix like him? Hmmph. He almost pitied her, if her lot growing up had been anything at all like his own.

Maybe she should have thought this out better. Been a little more socialable. But damnit! The stallion had spooked her from the start! And he did not resemble a cute and fluffy creature. Quite the opposite, really. So could she be completely blamed for her reaction, considering her past experiences with certain breeds of Soquili? Still... she may have felt a little bad. But only a little.

Studying him while she awaited his answer, she took in the portions of his appearance that frightened her the most. His teeth where sharp. So he probably ate meat. This made her swallow heavily. But he'd yet to snap at her - physically. Moving on to his horns, they were... not the same as she remembered from the time she'd met a Kalona. Interesting. What other species had... impressive horns like this stallion? None that she could currently think on. Definitely not a unicorn. Nose wrinkling, she moved on to his wings. Much more impressive than hers! And, okay there may have been a hint of jealousy at this. He could probably fly better than she could. But his taloned feet... Dark Side shivered a little.

And scowled right back.

Her own tail whipped back and forth as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, ears still pinned back, though they were slowly lifting inch by inch. "What... kind of meal?" She asked hesitantly, in a much quieter voice lacking the hostility from before. Dark Side considered the question he threw back at her, instead of tossing something sardonic back at him. "A wanderer." She finally replied. "Someone that does not quite belong in one place or another."

Shrugging her shoulders, her posture visibly seemed to shift into something more... accepting, yet not completely relaxed. No, she was still uncertain of this stallion, but if he wasn't going to attack her, he was alright.

But the one question still bothered her. And made her feel guilty all at the same time. "You... are not one of the Kalona... are you?" She finally asked, some of that blasted fear coloring her tone. Great. Now he'd know she was afraid of Kalona. And him, if he was one - or part one - of them.

The stallion was not at all perturbed by the mares scowl. He wasn't exactly known to be a bubbling ray of sunshine, and his curt words had been rather ungentlemanly. But, he was hungry, and thus, his patience for fools was running rather thin. To him, it had made sense to speak his mind, and if the mare couldn't handle her mess of hair, than it made sense to do something about it.

Especially running through a woods as thick as this one!

Ah, but Ophiuchus was not often in the habit of making friends, and he was known to be especially critical of strangers. His family, his breed (or at least half of them, at any rate) were rather notorious for being pure of blood and mind; cold, aloof, and calculating. It was not often in their nature to mingle with others, especially those they perceived to be of little use to them. Still, the pale stallion also understood he was not of their blood, just as he was not of anyone's, and these strange breeds he met in these just as strange lands could not possibly understand his lot.

That was, perhaps, just as well.

"A meal that is too stupid, or slow, or too sick, or too unsuspecting to get picked up by my jaws," he explained, giving his fanged, peculiarly beaked muzzle an audible snap for further explanation. The mare seemed genuinely wary of him, which was just as well -- it might mean he wasn't going to be stuck playing host to the stranger. He didn't know her, didn't care to know her, and certainly had a mission to fulfill sooner than later.

The longer he stayed unsuccessful on the hunt, the worse off it would be for him.

Still, he was not about to hunt her, he was not so crude as to cannibalize, but there was no way he could survive solely on plants. His hippo'gryph nature did not extend quite so far. "I am not," he assured with a small swish of his spiked tail. "Nor do I intend to cause you any harm. I am simply passing through," he assured with cool, curt confidence.

Now that they had that settled, maybe he could continue on his way?

Perhaps it was just his bad luck to touch on a matter she was slightly vain in. But her mane was something she worked to keep long and pristine. In an effort to keep attention drawn away from her horn. Which, at the moment, was a little easier than she had anticipated. Mostly thanks to the grumpy stallion that had stumbled across her here. Who still was making her nervous, yet his overall demeanor didn't seem dangerous? Or rather, that he wasn't going to do anything to her. Yet, anyways.

Dark Side scowled again, though she probably deserved being thought of as 'stupid'. Her tail swished behind her, as if it were batting at annoying flies. "I see." She murmured, head ducking a little bashfully.

The mare let out an audible sigh when when he denied being a Kalona. There was still some hesitancy in her to fully trust him, but if he wasn't going to attack her... or eat her, he was tolerable. "I... am glad." She admitted, glancing away for a moment before glancing back at him. Just passing through? "I thank you for that." Dark Side said in a small voice, body losing a lot of its tension. She bowed her head in some form of apology. "... Forgive me." It was almost whispered but she hoped he heard it. She had not meant to jump to conclusions, but it was so hard not to when the stallion looked like one of those Soquili she only saw in nightmares.

"Is it small game you seek, then?" She asked curiously, peeking back over at him. "There was a small game trail I crossed a little further that way. I... I could show you were it was." And hopefully find Bix soon. She didn't want him flying around out here if there were meat eaters about!

Kyrieko
((Sorry for the slowness!))

Ophiuchus watched the mare with his purple gaze, expression still reserved and cold. The half-air ‘suti was not prone to casual conversation, though a small part of the stallion was just as desperate for it. He was socially awkward and though he had not returned to the deserts, he felt even less comfortable in these foreign lands. The soquili here still stared at him, curious about his feathers, claws, and beak. Some, like Dark Side, seemed to assume him a twisted predator or mixed with kalona blood; others just thought him ugly and strange, or presumed him to be some sort of freak. Unfortunately for the latter group, they really were right. He came from a bloodline that was proud of its purity, and the fact that he had suti and gryph blood had been traumatizing among his kin, and devastating as a foal. He had been made an example of, and when the curse had been broken and the gryph and suti had been set free. . . . he had been told to explore. . .and discouraged to return.

So he roamed.

Dark Side, he knew, had every right to be concerned. There was wickedness in these lands the likes of which he had never heard of. Though there were cruel hearts back in the desert and among his own kin, there was no threat of skinwalkers or the predators often known as kalona. He supposed they had a similar appearance, and his own, whipe-like tail, despite it feathers, the spikes, his claws, and that beak, made him look like some sort of monster. Sometimes the stallion wondered if he actually WAS a monster. He didn't think so, but the way others looked at him and assumed he would cause them harm made him wonder; more importantly, the way his own blood had treated him, like something disgusting, something less than them. . . it had hurt and he wondered if it wouldn't have been better to never have been born at all. He had been their scapegoat, a reminder of his parents great sin. “I scavenge when I can,” he stated, allowing his feathers to ruffle some. “Though I’ll kill any prey if given an advantage. Rabbits, birds, rodents . . . I’ve feasted on them all since moving through these lands. Deer are particularly savory, though more difficult to hunt.” Deer and fish were perhaps his favorites, if only because the desert lacked such delectable fare. He had lived off desert game – insects, foxes, the occasional hare, hawk, or vulture. Big game was difficult to come by, but they managed. If he were in dire straits, even fruits and vegetables could sustain him, but it was meat that he preferred.

For a moment Ophiuchus considered the mares words—she wished to help him, or such was her claim. Whether or not she truly meant it was another thing all together. Still. . . cold as he could be, at least pointing out the trail would be a good thing. “If you feel so inclined, I would not dismiss the aid.” Otherwise he would find it himself.
