And it seems like some people, even the tolerant people or those in the LGBT community, are especially disgusted or repelled by this. So I was wondering, why? It's not like I crave sex more than the average guy or something. Yet my bi friend, a girl, is accepted for it. Do many people find it more acceptable for a girl to be bisexual? I'm rather naive when it comes to reasons for discrimination (and a lot of things, honestly,) so it may be something obvious I'm missing.

I think it's mostly that people tend to think bisexuals are promiscuous and date both a guy and girl at the same time. But that's just dumb 'cause not every bisexual is the same.

A few of my friends 'were' bi and just said that those people who classify themselves as such just haven't picked a side or are hiding being gay to protect themselves. I see their reasonings. But I don't agree with it.

Honestly, I see hate for both bi girls and boys (men and women). It goes with what someone said earlier. Most assume that bisexual means that people are dating men and women both at the same time and being promiscuous which is completely false. Usually, that's based on the idea you should pick a side to shoot for and stick with it. Most assume bisexual means you are just confused.
I'm bi and I have attraction towards some males and females. I'm not attracted to everything that breaths and has a pulse. Some bad eggs out there ruin it for those who aren't promiscuous, which I understand it's all about personal lifestyles. However, it really ruins it for people in general when people pretend and goof off, giving people the wrong impression by playing into stereotypes. Same thing can be said about those assuming the stereotypes are true. I wish we could get to a point where people took the time to stop and get to know the person before assumptions were made.

I guess that makes sense as a "reason." (albeit an unfair and discrimitory one.) I'm on the same level as you. It takes a lot for me to be attracted someone.

alot of people are idoits and belive only women can be bisexual, or worse, they are idiots and believe all women are bisexual but men can only be gay or straight. so yeah, i think that women usually have an easier time being bisexual
but overall there is still alot of biphobia found with straight people and from the lg part of the community. we are filthy sluts who cant pick a side and are very greedy. also we always have to cheat on our partners
also sadly most of the people i know who say they are bi are really just straight women who want to seem edgy or make men more interested in them. that hasnt helped the bisexual reputation at all
im married to a man and he is the only person ive had sex with, yet still when people find out im bi they assume that i cheat on my husband so quite often i will have to site someone down and explain to them how bisexuality works

I think true bisexuals are the luckiest people in the world actually, because no matter who you meet is open to you. I've had a lot of really sweet girls get crushes on me, but just have absolutely no feeling in return at all. If you're bi you can judge people only on personality alone. It's a nice advantage.
People who have to sigh and go "If only so-n-so were a ____!" are probably just hating on you out of jealousy for your superiority! whee yum_cupcake

I believe the people hating on you and accuse you of being a whore or whatever are projecting their own desires and/or fears onto you. They are either jealous, because they see bisexuality as a justification to have lots of different sexual partners or they feel threatened, because they think you're going to take their partner away or something like that.
As for me, I though of myself as bisexual for about a month before accepting myself as gay, it's probably because of people like me that some of the LG community aren't going to take you seriously... sweatdrop

From what I've seen, there seems to be a connection between hating on bisexuals and slut-shaming. It's assumed that if you're bisexual you'll either flip-flop about your sexual identify (and in doing so be perceived as a bad example) or will be promiscuous, and that's the real issue for some people. They don't like others being sexual in a way of which they don't approve.

I am generally told to "pick a side" or that "I am confused". neutral
I as a bi lady relatively young (23) get crap all the time that I am "going through a phase" and that I will "change my mind". rolleyes
I as a bi and poly lady, get lots of crap for being "promiscuous". I am the stereotype. I enjoy dating men and women at the same time - CONSENSUALLY. emotion_donotwant

Most people who are bi-haters think "You must bat for this team or the other team. Can't do both" emotion_eyebrow They feel to be bi you have to be desperate or sex crazy. I know you, and I know that's not true. It's just people being unfair to all bisexual people.

While I was considering my own orientation, I went through a time in my life where I thought I was bisexual, but had a lot of people treat it like a phase, too.
Well, I'm 25 years old now, and while I know I am not bisexual (I am polysexual, which gets around the same bad rep as bisexuality does), I know that those who are bisexual are not necessarily promiscuous or so desperate that they'll take anything that comes their way. Being bisexual only means that one is attracted to both males and females. That's it. It doesn't reflect a person's sexual activity.
When people say things like, "bisexual people are just confused" or "bisexual people are just desperate and have sex with anyone and everyone" they are being prejudiced. I would even call some of those people ignoramuses, but that is a strong word. ninja You have to consider the source and have patience with those who rely on misperceived ideas on sexual orientations.

I know in Southern California a lot of people are accepting. And it's a werid two way street: Straight Guys find girls on girls hot but guys on guys not so much. (from what I know). As well, some (or most idk) girls find guy on guy hot...and well...I'm fine with other girls making out. ;D Is it mostly other guys your having trouble with? Cause some guys can be plain douches. Just forget about those meanie poos and stand strong!
