This is the large area of jungle terrain between the Land of Waves, and Uzushiogakure and the Shinobi Village of the Land of Fire: Konohagakure.
These jungles are dangerous as all manner of poisonous plants and animals inhabit it, not to mention, there are rumours of cannibals spreading between travellers by the camp fire.
You would be wise to know a bit of medicine or to travel with a medical nin.

Hisashi put his feet on solid ground, then turned and waited for the others to join him.
"Welcome to the Land of Fire, kid." He told Kenshin with a grin. "We'll be travelling in a line. I'll be up front, Abi Ojiisan and Ken-kun in the middle and our medic, Ville at the back, K? Keep to the formation, don't wander. This goes especially for you kid, as these jungles've got all manner of lovely critters waiting to get a taste of ya, crystal?"
He looked about them.
"Have we got everything?" he asked, feeling like a teacher on a school outing for a second.
I got LOVELY cabbages, fresh from the horse's mouth....erm...
With a dark look at Hisashi, Abi shuffled down the gang-plank and slouched to inattention, sniffing and spitting every now and again, obviously unhappy about the arrangements, but saying nothing.
He looked suspiciously at the little dock and harbour village about them, and glared at the jungles before them.
I'm far too old for all this, he thought to himself, miserably, far, far too old for anything of this.
I'm the Uzushiogakure Market Cabbage Man, No, it smells worse than it sounds....
Kenshin nodded. "I understand Captain." Then he looked around. The terrain was quite different form Whirlpool Village. The jungles seemed like a mysterious yet deadly place. Hisashi even mentioned dangers. Maybe this would be a chance for Ken to use his sword. All in all he would still look at the sights with admiration. "After you Ojiisan." Kenshin's path to becoming a ninja officially begins now.
I got LOVELY cabbages, fresh from the horse's mouth....erm...
Abimlooked mournfully at Kenshin.
"So young," he said, shaking his head, "At that age one does not know much about the world. Poor thing. You do not know that we go to our deaths now."
He grabbed the boy's arm and made sure that the child was beside him, close beside him. His reasoning was that Hisashi was most likely going to keep an eye on the youngest member of the expedition, so being around the boy was most likely the safest place to be. So Abi had decided to hang onto Kenshin as if he was a lucky charm.
"You'll be a good boy and look after a poor old man, won't you Ken-kun?" he whined pleadingly.
Slouching even more pathetically, he shuffled after Hisashi, mumbling as he did about how wasteful the deaths of such wonderful young people will be....

Hisashi grinned at the old man's tactics, and felt sorry for Kenshin who was now to be subjected to a merciless onslaught of his sinuses.
"I hope your good with anti-venom, Ville." He told the green-haired medic with another fast grin, and shot off to lead the line-up through the jungle.
Ville Senju HP: 125 Chakra: 145 Classes: Medical/Kekkei Genkai Element: Wood Ville had finish his book and slept some on the boat ride. He got up and took the back like he was told. Well at least he wasn't in the front and the Kid and Hisashi were there with Abi-san. He put his hands behind his head as he started to wallk

Abi trudged mournfully, keeping close to Kenshin, as close as he could be, and was moaning under his breath all the way.
These children have no idea what they are getting into, he thought, remembering the horrors seen during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Most people, in fact, almost no one knew that Abi had been a nin who had taken part in that very war and had fought against a number of terrifying enemies.
Abi had, through all these trials become very good at one thing: not dying. It was not that he was a coward, as such, it was just that he knew when to high-tail it and scoot back under the protection of someone who could deal with the threat. He valued human life immensely, especially his own.
The old man shuffled along, looking about him in a most paranoid manner, then stumbled over something. Looking down, his eyes bulged, then he let out a loud and rather hysterical scream.

Kenshin followed behind Hisashi in a hurried fashion. The old man gripping his arm didn't bother him as it was his job to stay close to him anyway. Though the old man did have a tight, uncomfortable, grip. "Loosen up old man." Ken hoped the man wasn't right. How could he die now, so young?

Kenshin was trying to clam him, but the object on the ground was overpowering this well-meaning gesture.
"Meh...me....meh..." he stuttered, pointing down at what he had tripped over, eyes growing huge in their sockets. "Meh......." he added, pathetically.

Hisashi paused his step at the shriek Abi gave, then sighed as there seemed to be a commotion behind him and doubled back. He was rather annoyed at the old fart, even though he knew why they needed him to accompany them. He was cover, after all. Rather loud, annoying, and smelly cover.
Arriving back at where the old man was causing the trouble, and drawing attention they most likely did not want, Hisashi saw what Abi was still screaming at.
He had managed to trip over a severed arm.....
"Ken-kun!" He ordered immediately, whipping out a kunai and taking up a defensive position. "You keep an eye on Abi Ojiisan. Ville! Take a look at what the blazes that thing is, will you?"

Ville Senju HP: 125 Chakra: 145 Classes: Medical/Kekkei Genkai Element: Wood Ville wasn'r even phase from the screaming. "Its a arm. Can you not tell?" He asked walking over to it. He reached into his bag and pulled out some gloves and picked it up and looked at it. He ran his finger along the cut. "This was a clean quick cut. Like from a katana. Ken-kun, let me see yout sword please." he held out his hand for the sword
Hisashi kept his eyes on the area around them, knowing all about the rumours of cannibals in the vicinity.
"Damnit, Medic," he snapped, "I can tell what an arm looks like. Tell me if there anything else about, will ya? I mean where's the rest of him?"
He doubted the 'cannibal' thought, as it was unlikely that cannibals would leave a perfectly good piece of meat behind them. But then, this begged the question as to who was behind this quartering....and who, exactly, the arm belonged to.
"Clean cut, eh?" He added, eyes scanning the surroundings from behind his sunglasses. "Any trace of poison Ville?"
Kenshin immediately ran to Ojiisan. "Don't try to run away form me old man." He grabbed his arm. The medic planned to investigate the arm. Kenshin nodded to confirm his request. He then took his sword hilt off his back and tossed it to Ville. Why are there arms lying around? This might mean there are some monsters in the forest willing to attack the travelers. Kenshin wouldn't fret now. He believed in the Captain's decisions making.

Abi tried to turn and make a run for it, but Kenshin had grabbed his arm and he found he was basically treading air. He stopped, as he saw it was futile, but kept the boy in front of him, between himself and the horrible dismembered limb.
"Must we play with the thing?" He whined, "I can understand boyish curiosity, but this is taking things a bit too far. We should head back and get some help. In fact, I'll be more than happy to go back and get some help, and maybe stay there." He added, hopefully.
