"Clear ahead, Captain," she heard Flint whisper in her ear after returning from scouting ahead. She nodded her head, sending him flying into the air on accident.
"Sorry, Flint," she said stepping forward lightly and pursuing the adventure of the day that he had picked out for her. She began to run after a little while and then went into her usual full out gallop, tossing her mane in the air and pushing herself forward. She loved to run. It was so freeing. She only wished she had someone to race besides Flint, because he always won. She was glad to have him, though. After escaping from her father's clutches it had been a little lonely before meeting him. Though she was fully capable of surviving on her own, she didn't particularly enjoy being alone.
Her ears perked, picking up noise ahead and allowing Flint to direct her. She ran faster despite her heavy breathing, excited to reach whatever the day had in store for her. Flint shivered in the cold of the wind and huddled down in the warmth of Falling Rock's mane, wrapping himself in it as if it were a blanket. He peeked out, scanning the area to give her directions to the place he had seen earlier. He had found the most gorgeous miniature waterfall pouring into a little pond. He knew Fall would enjoy it, she liked pretty things just as much as he did. It might not be the adventure she was looking for though, and he worried about what she would think about the location he had scouted out for her. At least it would be a nice place for them to rest. She'd had him moving for days now and he wondered if the little filly ever slowed down.

Kadira had slowly wandered off while the group of mares that she traveled with rested after another grueling push to reach their herd lands. While she was exhausted and wanted nothing more to lay down and sleep Kadira knew that moments like this would be rare until the group reached their home. And so, she pushed back her weariness, something that Penthesilea insisted she learn to do anyways, and ventured off. The mares knew that she had left, no matter how quiet or sneaky she thought she was being they always knew. Part of it may be that she couldn't move almost silently as they could, plus her white coat made it easy for them to keep track of her even if she ventured off into trees.
As she walked she took a few mouthfuls of grass. Traveling with the mares she had learned quickly that unless Penthesilea was feeling extra kind it was best to eat on the move or else her stomach would remain empty. She wasn't really hungry but Kadira knew if she didn't pick away at it the hunger would hit her suddenly and the mares would not be entirely sympathetic with her. Stopping for a moment she chewed thoughtfully, wondering not for the first time what things would be like if she had been raised by her real parents, parents that she had no memory of. She had never seen her mother or father, though she had heard her fathers voice while still in her basket. But it was only Penthesilea's kindness mixed with the fortunate circumstance that she was female, that had set her upon the path she was now, traveling with a group of female warriors headed back to their herd lands. Her ears twitched as she heard a sound in the distance and her head shot up a bit. It wasn't any of the mares she traveled with, they moved silently even when trying to find the wayward filly, so what was it. She was torn between running back to the others and moving forward to see what it was.
Relax, she told herself, you are a warrior in training, don't let a little noise scare you. She snorted lightly, she may be a warrior in training but that didn't help calm her fears one bit. Instead of moving she stood there, half frozen waiting to see if the owner of the noise would come to her and hoped they were friendly. If not, one small scream and a group of angry warrior females would be descending upon the unfortunate soul.

"Fall, slow down a little. I see something ahead," Flint peeped through the cold, rushing wind of Falling Rock's running. "Captain!" he shouted a little louder when she didn't hear him the first time, or rather when she had ignored him the first time.
It was always hard to get her to stop after getting her started. The poor little filly hated hiding and staying in places for too long, but he insisted because that was safest for her. If she could only know how much he cared about her. But she was too young and naive to understand that. To her, he was a playmate, she didn't understand the word friend yet. He was alright with that. Her adventures and fun were enough for him at the moment, as long as she was safe.
Fall stopped hard, beginning to pout already. This couldn't be where he had wanted to take her. She was upset with him for a moment for making her stop and for picking such a boring location, but then she saw what he had seen. Another soquili! She thought for one moment to hide, to turn around and run the other way.
They were here to take her back to her father! They were here to capture her! No, don't run. Stand and fight for yourself. You're not going down without a fight. She thought to herself with determination. But after a bit of reasoning with herself she came to realize that the other was a foal like herself.

Kadira's heart was pounding so hard she was certain it would burst within her chest. Just who or what was coming her way? Calm down, breath, she told herself. Her ears flicked nervously, tail flicked behind her, all she could hear was the beating of her racing heart. The first thing to appear was a hummingbird and then...there was a foal. Kadira's eyes had grown wide up until that moment and now she felt absolutely embarrassed that she had thought trouble was coming her way. What kind of trouble could another foal cause? Besides her guardians weren't far away and if needed it would only take them a few short seconds to get here.
Swallowing hard Kadira attempted to get her body under control, her breathing was a bit rapid but at least her heart was starting to slow down to a more normal pace. She was fairly certain her legs were shaking just from all the pent up fear over the moments when the noise was coming at her. It took a few more moments longer before Kadira could find her voice, some warrior she was being scared by another foal. "Uh...hi." Not quite the amazing greeting she normally would have given another foal, but given the circumstances of their meeting this would have to do, she could make it up later if the filly stuck around long enough. "What...uh...what were you doing out there?" Maybe if she could get the filly to talk she could stick around long enough for some fun.

He breathed outward in relief at the sight of the other foal. He was grateful that he hadn't led Fall to a larger being who could take her from him. He peered at the other foal while hovering in the air and zoomed towards her to examine her further with no regards to her comfort or personal space. He noticed she was not much bigger than Fall, perhaps only by a little. "Hmmm..." he muttered each time he moved around her, making sure she was a suitable playmate for his friend as he was sure Fall would want to play.
"Flint! Stop that!" Fall stammered at her orange blur of a friend. "You'll make her feel uncomfortable, come here!" she demanded, taking a step closer to the other foal and grinning at her, deciding she was safe to speak to.
"I was exploring. We were going to...well...where were we going, Flint?" She heard him mumble something about a waterfall under his breath as he returned to her side but she hadn't really been concerned about his answer so she nodded excitedly to the other foal. "A waterfall. That's where we're going. What were you doing?" she asked curiously, hopping forward a little with excitement. It was so nice to see someone who was her size and someone who wasn't trying to kidnap her. Just to be safe though she nodded to Flint, sending him on a scouting mission to make sure this other foal was not a trap. She watched as he zipped off and then returned her gaze to the other filly with a smile.

Kadira took a step back as the hummingbird flited around her. Was he inspecting her? How odd. She was used to being looked at that way by the mares that she traveled with to know that it was an inspection and not just a curious glance. But she doubted the hummingbird was checking her muscle tone or for any sign of injury like the mares did. When the bird flew back to the other filly Kadira relaxed a bit, though she hoped Penthesilea or one of the others didn't see that, imagine the scolding she would get if they had seen she was afraid of another filly and a hummingbird. Resisting the urge to look over her shoulder Kadira focused on the filly. They were going to a waterfall? "I didn't know there was a waterfall around here." She told them with a shrug. The group she traveled with wasn't much for pointing out interesting scenery whenever they did stop, it was strictly for rest and to train, not to site see.
The question made her pause before answering. What was she doing out here? Other than trying to escape another round of training. "Well I'm traveling with my mothe..." Kadira stopped and frowned slightly. No she wasn't with her mother, Penthesilea had made it clear that she was not her mother, nor were any of the other mares she traveled with, but they would raise her and take care of her and she was excepted to live up to te herds standards while they did so. "...with some mares that are taking care of me." She finally continued. "We stopped not long ago to rest and eat, I wandered off a bit and then I found you." It wasn't as grand sounding as going to visit a waterfall but it was the truth and truth was important to Penthesilea, it was one of the first lessons she had been drilled with, always tell the truth even if it will disappoint or anger the one you are speaking to. As she looked at the other filly she wondered if her parents were near by. The question lingered in mind but Kadira did not answer it. "I'm...Kadira Nym, but most just call me Kadira."

"Me either," she grinned, glancing at Flint and then back at the other filly, "you can come with, if you want." She looked at Flint again, half asking for permission, half demanding that the other foal be allowed to go with them to the waterfall. Waterfalls were boring, but perhaps this one wouldn't be if there was someone new to talk to.
Her ears perked after hearing the half mention of a mother...or not a mother? She wondered if this filly was in the same situation as she was. What she wouldn't give to know her mother. Perhaps this filly felt the same. Her eyes twinkled at the prospect of meeting another like herself. It was fantastic enough to meet someone new, but it was even better that she had met someone who might be able to relate to her situation. "Hi, Kadira! I'm Falling Rock. You can call me Fall, that's what Flint calls me. Oh! This is Flint," she said excitedly, nodding and looking for her little hummingbird body guard, who it seemed had disappeared.
He had flitted behind her head the moment she began introducing him. He didn't particularly like introductions. He could not avoid bringing the other foal to the waterfall with them, Fall would insist on that, but he could avoid any and all formalities. Introductions meant permanent recognition, and that wasn't exactly what they needed right now.
He was still suspicious of the new face, even if Kadira was just a foal, like Fall. She had said she had wandered away from mares. Mares...so controlling and fussy. Perhaps Fall could use a motherly figure in her life, but he knew they'd want her to stay forever, and that was certainly something she would despise. He flitted around Fall every time she turned, avoiding her stern gaze and avoiding any annoying introductions. He heard a huff from her and knew he had won and he perched on her head triumphantly.

The invitation to join them in seeing the waterfall was definitely appealing. For as long as she could remember she had been traveling with the group of mare, following trails or rivers but rarely getting to see much. Oh they passed some beautiful landscapes but unless they were stopping to rest Kadira only got a passing glance at all of them. It would be nice to see this waterfall, actually see it, and maybe they could even go for a swim if the water as good for that. But...she wondered if wandering off with this filly was a good idea. Penthesilea would get her in so much trouble is she wandered off, and yet the appeal of having fun and getting to be with someone her own age eventually won her over. "I'd love to see the waterfall with you." Yes, this would be fun and if it wasn't too far they might even make it back before the others realized she had wandered off.
"Falling Rock? That's an interesting name!" She wasn't one to judge based on a name but never before had she heard such a name. She had heard plenty of strange sounding names from Penthesilea and her group but nothing like this. "Hello Flint." Kadira said with a laugh as she watched the hummingbirds antics. He didn't seem like the most social type but if Fall said he was a friend then she didn't mind his presence one bit. "So what way to the waterfall?" She wanted to get going so that they didn't miss otu of it. Kadira could never know when one of would come for her so time was of the essence.

"Yes, well don't go sharing it around!" Flint peeped protectively through the tuft of Fall's mane. Sometimes he wished the filly would not so readily give out information about herself. They would be caught in a week at the rate she was going. But he knew she was eager to have a friend and that was what the girl deserved right now. "Right," he squeaked, surfacing from the tangle of grey and orange hair, "It's this way!" And with that he whizzed off before the other two could exchange any more information.
Falling Rock rolled her eyes at her hummingbird friend and looked back at Kadira when he left. "He's too much like my father sometimes...But don't tell him I told you that," she giggled and took off running in the direction he had gone, not bothering to wait for her new friend. A lack of socialization meant she had a lack of manners as well. But they were on their way to fun now, and she had a friend! She trotted after what seemed to be a little orange dot among the trees and soon she could hear the water trickling ahead. Maybe she could fly to the top and jump off! But she would have to have Kadira distract Flint because he would surely not allow such a thing. At last she looked back to see if her new friend had followed, bouncing as Flint returned to his perch atop her head.
"Tadaa!" he hummed. "Oh, Flint, it's beautiful!"

"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." She told Flint. Really she wasn't about to go running off and telling everyone she saw that there was a waterfall around here. Besides outside of the occasional she had seen on the various stops the group had taken the only ones Kadira ever saw were the mares she traveled with and she highly doubted any of them would care if there was a waterfall around here unless they were desperate for a drink of water.
Kadira couldn't help but laugh along with Falling Rock. Flint did seem like a father to the filly...well at least as far as Kadira could tell, she had no idea what fathers were like, she could only assume they were like mothers, which she didn't exactly have. Penthesilea and the other mares were as close to a mother as she knew, but somewhere out there her real parents were or so she thought. No one seemed to know for sure who or where they were. Following after Falling Rock Kadira raced after the filly not at all caring that her friend had taken off so suddenly, it was just nice to get to spend time with someone her age.
She nearly ran into Fall when they reached waterfall. "Wow!" She exclaimed as she moved around her new friend and took a good look at the waterfall."This is amazing."

Flint puffed out his chest proudly, gazing at the waterfall as if it were an old friend. This would be a nice, safe place to recover from their travels. The best part was that Fall could hardly get into too much trouble here. There was a nice collection of water she could drink from and maybe splash her face in. Yes, they would be safe here.
Fall's grin was wide and her orange eyes were sparkling, tracing the path of many water droplets as they fell into a pool at the bottom. "Have you ever seen anything so pretty?" she asked, for once holding still in amazement. But then the initial awe wore off and she was ready to get wet. With a quick look at Kadira and a wink, she took off running for the top of the waterfall. Before Flint could say a word she was at the top and jumping off recklessly, spreading her wings wide to catch the air and laughing all the way. "WOOOHOOOO!" she shouted right before she hit the water, sending drops everywhere.
