Deneb picked her way through the trees taking a rare moment to spend some time alone away from the herd, and her daughter. She loved the girl, but it was high time to talk a walk. She let her mind wander thinking over things. Of course that was dangerous, and led to bad places, places best not discussed, or brought into light, but it kept happening anyway.
She mindlessly weaved around vines and trees, not really caring how branches kept dragging against her scales. As long as there wasn't blood she didn't care. She stopped and looked around realizing that she only had a vague notion of where in the jungle she was now. She silently cursed herself, but figured it wouldn't be to hard to find her way back. She hadn't been very good about hiding her trail after all.

Large yellow eyes peered out at the mare from a nearby a tree, the rest of his form hidden by the foliage. Ship had heard the mare coming for quite some time now, since she'd hardly made the effort to conceal her presence. The little jaguar had felt threatened by the excess noise (only a top predator would heedlessly make noise in a jungle, they were the only ones with nothing to fear), and quickly scaled the tree. He was glad to see that this was simply a Soquili, like his Soquili. The one he'd left blundering about further back in the jungle. Fears assuaged, he sniffed at the mare curiously, and made an inquisitive cough. Loud enough for her to hear. Maybe she'd give him some food?

Deneb jumped slightly at the sound. Although the Angeni kept the area round the herd clear of some of the larger predators, it didn't stop them from venturing in to test the waters so to speak. She looked around unsure of where exactly the noise had come from and then randomly decided to just look up. She stared into a pair of golden eyes, much like her own. She debated bolting, but realized the cat was looking at her more quizzically than hungrily. She let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.
"Hello there." she said softly. "Are you lost little one?" she asked hoping to coax what was obviously someone's familiar down out of the tree.

Lost? Not likely. He was exactly where he wanted to be, even if he wasn't sure where this place was in relation to everything else. Nevertheless, he was pleased at the attention, and leaped down to the ground, tail high.
"I'm not lost." he replied, a little smugly. "But I know someone who is. Follow me. I'll take you to him, and in return, you'll take us to food!"
He obviously didn't bother to consider whether she would have any objections.

Deneb blinked, she hadn't had a lot of contact with familiars, not having one of her own, and wondered if they all acted like this one. She shrugged it off and figured it was probably easier to not argue with the cat.
"Alright." she said, following after and ducking under a branch. "How long has he been lost?" she asked, considering the possibilities. "Are they hurt?" she remembered the last thing she'd helped that was hurt, and that hadn't ended...well it hadn't ended as she'd expected anyway.

"More than usual? Maybe a few scrapes." he replied, flowing like water over the jungle terrain. "And he's always lost."
"I'm Ship, by the way. Battle usually likes to introduce me to strangers himself, so when we find him, just pretend I didn't tell you. Oh, and pretend I didn't tell you his name. He's particular about his introductions. But it's silly trying to hold a conversation when you don't even know who you're talking to, I say."
He paused at the base of a tree, and looked up through the canopy to where the sun was only visible as dappled light. He nodded, and changed direction.
"This way! Anyway, the trick to not getting lost is to not care where you are. Like you Soquili will say that this meadow is your home, and then you go wander away from it, and if you can't find it again, you get all upset, even if you find a meadow that's just as good as the other one."

She smiled in spite of herself. "I'm Deneb." she stepped over a tangle of roots. "I've found most stallions to be particular about one thing or another. It's in their nature, I suppose." she said ducking around some vines that threatened to snag her horn. "I won't be able to do anything about the scrapes...not really my sort of healing...then again I'm not very good at kirin healing either."
She paused when the little cat did and watched him curiously. She understood what he was up to when he nodded and changed course. She figured that if the master was forever getting lost, it was probably a good thing that the companion at least knew his way around.
She chuckled slightly at the cat's rant about wandering. "I've never felt like that...I've wandered most of my life. My mother and I used to wander all over a range of mountains...and then I went into the lowlands to live in a forest...and now I'm here. This is the closest I've ever had to a home. I suppose I'm strange among my kind in that respect." she said. "How much further do you think?" she asked having to weave around some low brush, that the cat had easily slipped through.

"Shhhh." Ship replied, ears perking to attention. If Deneb listened carefully, she might have made out the sound of something large crashing through the undergrowth.
"Shiiip! Ship, where are yooooou?" came a faint cry. Ship turned and gave Deneb a feline grin.
"Question answered?" he asked, and slipped towards the sound.
"Battle! Battle, compose yourself. We're not alone."
"Ship! Where have you been?! Wait- not alone?"
There was a pause.
"A mare?" came a whisper.
Another pause.
"Is she cute?"

Deneb blinked at the sudden cries and only managed to give the cat a sheepish look at not hearing the stallion crashing through the undergrowth. She managed to extract herself from a bush that had gotten tangled in her mane when she heard the cute comment.
Deneb choked and felt herself going warm with embarrassement, thankful that any blush wouldn't show on her dark fur. She tossed her forelock out of her eyes and cleared her throat. "My name is Deneb." she said in a way that she hoped didn't make her sound flustered. "Your familiar brought me...he said you were lost."

There was a long silence, followed by a furious whispered exchange. Finally, Battle pushed his way through a stand of foliage, careful of catching his chains and branches on anything. And he did indeed have a number of scratches from his time in the jungle. He seemed singularly unfazed, considering the tree growing on him had roots burrowing through his flesh, the superficial damage caused by the jungle was a small burden.
"Ah. I'm very sorry about that." he said, looking sheepish. After another awkward pause, he cleared his throat, and bowed to her. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Battle, and this-"
He nodded to Ship, who'd reappeared beside Battle. Ship winked at Deneb, and twined around Battle's legs.
"is Ship, my familiar."
"Wonderful!" Ship said, clearly impatient with the introductions. "Now. Food."

Deneb's eyes swept over the odd looking stallion, hoping he wouldn't think she was being overly rude. While the tree that appeared to be growing out of him didn't phase her over much, the glowing red orb on his chest combined with the silver chain and dark coloration, brought up images of a another set of red orbs, a cruel smile, a flash of wing, and the sensation of being hot and cold at the same time. She blinked a few times clearing the images, and focused properly on the stallion in front of her. She would not think of of him! Not now, not ever!
She managed a small smile at the cat. Then looked up at Battle. "I'm sorry, you remi--" she cut herself off. "I didn't mean to be rude and stare. Like I said, I'm Deneb." she chuckled a bit. "And I do know where some food is."
