Not sure how many of you all know about this, but in addition to Go-Busters there's is set to be another Sentai set to run this year. Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger.

Set to premiere in April, Akibaranger is the first "Sentai" to be geared towards teens and young adults and as such will be on Tokyo MX.

Personally, I'm looking forward to this new series. Wether it's going to be a parody or lead to something more like its own series, Akibaranger is definitely something to keep in mind.

Your thoughts?

Can't wait. I hope it is better than Gobusters. So far, I am disappointed with the 36th series. The only thing that I like is Enter. And that's not saying much.

Really? I actually enjoy Go-Busters. :XP: Has a different feel then any previous Sentai to date.

I haven't watched all of the Sentai series, so I can't compare to all of them. I have thus far seen all of Gokaiger, Goseiger, and Gekiranger. I have watched nearly half of Dekaranger and Abaranger. I watched quite a few episodes or Boukenger, and Magiranger. And one or two of Go-onger, Fiveman, Timeranger, to name a few.

But, Gobusters hasn't really gotten me "hooked" into the show, quite yet. I am forcing myself to watch, because it might pick up, and I do want to be there for that.

I also like Enter. (The questions around him intrigue me enough to keep watching just for him, and he's not bad looking, so I'll also watch for that. I seem to have a thing for villain Japanese young men...it appears....[Long, Rio-sama, Ankh, and Vasco].

Sweet. I've watched about as much Sentai as you.(^^)v

Really? What do you think is wrong/different about it? I mean, it's only a few episodes in.

lol I seem to have a thing for the yellow heroines. Like Gokai Yellow, Gosei Yellow and Deka Yellow. Though I have a soft spot for BoukenPInk and Mele as well. ((^^))

And before anyone says anything, this is sorta still on topic. But just incase you don't believe me, I've recently read that the Akibarangers goal is to actually become their own series and be recognized as an official Sentai.

About Gobuster: I really don't like how the three main characters have irrelevant weaknesses:

Yellow runs out of energy, so she eat "candy" instead. Well, duh. Your sugar fix isn't going to cut it. haha. No seriously, why have a hero who drains quickly? Is that the BEST you can do?

Red freezes. Not like a panic attack, but freezes three dimensionally. Why do I feel like the whole "chicken-calling" is a reference to Back to The Future? He freezes up when someone calls him a chicken. Hm...er...so he can freeze up during important task, great, another highly flawed super hero.

Blue goes nuts when he over heats. And becomes a complete bad a**. (Now, I didn't mind that too much)...anger management problems aren't that far fetched...but his are related to an alternate ego. Then he passes out. I could work with that, except, if he's too "hot headed", then he would be a problem, but he appears to be very calm.

So the fainting yellow and freezing blue can go, and I would keep red. But, if your planet was at risk, would this REALLY be the team that you would choose? Really? Really? REALLY?

I think not.

While I find their weaknesses a bit too silly at times, I think it is a decent addition to the show. It keeps them from exerting their powers too much and it is an obstacle I am betting they overcome later as the series goes on.

The only thing I really don't like about it myself is Red's weakness to chickens. While it might be a nod to Back to the Future (a great movie trilogy) I think it doesn't fit him well. Blue overuses his strength, he overheats. Yellow uses her leaping and agility too much, she runs out of fuel. Red's isn't really tied to his ability though.

Technically he could just keep super speeding around. Most speedsters tend to have the weakness of running out of energy, so Yellow's weakness should have been applied to Red. I'm feeling they didn't go that route though since having a need for candy seems more childish and they like underlining that trait in Yellow.

I tend to agree. It's an interesting, realistic dynamic. I'd rather them not overcome them. LIke you said, it puts limits on their powers and offers something that shows don't.

I tend to agree. What do you think his (other then the one you mentioned below) should have been?

Or going to fast, yeah. They could have taken a different route. Though it's hard to make one that fits his powers and personality. And since the "weak points" also doubles as part of the comedy relief, it's hard to pick a better drawback.

Not to irrelevant. A different dynamic is all. Though like Itami mentioned it can get out of hand.

Yellow: Moves to much to fast, can't move. Makes a lot of practical sense. At least to me.

Red: The only thing I hate about it that its a freakin' chicken. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Blue: Again, uses his power to much he over-heats and becomes an a**. It's kind of like a twist on Multiple personalities or two sides of the same coin. One nice, the other not so much. Think Ichigo and Hollow Ichigo if you watch Bleach.

Other then the idiotic weak point, he's a capable leader and fighter.

I hope they have an episode that goes deeper into why chicken is Red's weakness.

I mean, I'm a vegetarian, and can look a live chicken in the face, see a dead chicken, smell dead chickens (cooked), and deal with all of the commercials selling chicken meat.... so, what IS his problem?

Well, if the Doc appears with Red in an old DeLorean, then I will have a better guess...

I guess I will have to wait and see...

It was taken down before I could see it, damn Japanese Speech Contest. xd

But yeah, I saw both the RAW and Subbed and I got to say I was blown away. A) By its sheer awesomeness and B) in that it's full of Japanese slang. >.<

Also, I loved the episode and series direction but there's just something I can't put my finger on. And that something I don't really like it either. I wish I knew what it was.

I'm already very into it. The first episode, the "red unofficial sentai ranger" has lots of parallels with my own life: I'm a huge fan, a few years younger than 29, and jump for joy when I see Sentai/Garo/Power Rangers/Kamen Rider stuff. Then I remember my age, and try to tone it down a couple notches. Then I remember that practically no one around me knows about my private fandom life, and then I just grin, and go on my marry way.

I freaked out this one woman, because her son had power ranger shoes. I commented to the kid about them, and asked him which ranger was his favorite. I ended up knowing more about the rangers than he did (he was 3 or 4 and I was 12). The mother asked me if I wanted his shoes. That was weird to me. She started taking them off and handing them to me, at that point I turned and ran away. I was freaked out.

I don't talk about my PR fandom to anyone, I usually dominate the conversation by getting "too deep". I'm not one who just talks about who's cuter: Tommy or Jason?" I am more of the: "If Zordon was around for a long time, then why didn't he know about Ivan Ooz, and why didn't he hard boil his egg, seal it in a dumpster, and dump it into a black hole? Why didn't he do that to Rita? If Zordon had many teams prior, we could get a way with a Gokaiger like script" etc., etc... At this point, I learn that no one wants to continue the discussion with me...and I am back to square one: The fan who has no friends.

haha. So, where was I going with this? Oh, so the first episode reminds me of : ME. The "Lone Ranger" if you will.

Lol You sound like me when I reveal, sometimes accidentally, my love for Tokusatsu... Namely Kamen Rider. It always surprises them and makes me feel sometimes I should watch shows more my age. But then again, I remind myself I've always been a fan of Super Heroes and that my Japanese level is that of an Elementary Student (The Target Audience) anyway. xd

Correction. The over-logical/serious fan has no friends. It's nice to talk about it occasionally I think so long as you don't get "to" into it. ^^;;

((Yes, I've experienced both extremes. The previously mentioned one and the way to into it one... kinda like the main characters of this show are. xd ))

I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. Probably wont spawn its own franchise by the looks of it (Yeah, I know to early to tell), but it's sure going to be good while it lasts. Hopefully I didn't jinx anything either.
