What is Cervical Cancer? It is a cancer that only affects woman as it grows in the tissues of the cervix, found between the uterus and v****a and usually referred to as the neck of the womb, and without proper care, few women recognize it until it has reached advanced stages.
There a few causes of cervical cancer. Of course smoking, bad diet, etc. However there are some bigger causes.
Taking Birth Control Pills for a long period of time seems to increase the risk of cervical cancer while decreasing the risk of other cancers. However, there is no need for panic as it does not appear to be a huge increase and after five years of stopping birth control pills that risk declines. Even if there is a risk, there is enough benefits to the birth control pill. If any woman is considering birth control, she should contact a gynecologist to discuss pro and cons and the strength of the dosage she can be put on. There are also many pills such as beyaz that include many important minerals the female body needs, and for woman who suffer from irregular periods accompanied by bad cramps and pains, a light dosage of regulated estrogen really does wonders. The pill’s main job is to prevent pregnancy, and Multiple Child Births can be a cause of cervical cancer, so the the pill’s increased risk of cervical cancer is not a major cause.
Chlamydia infection is a common bacterium that is spread by sex, and when it infected the cervix, it’s known as Cervicitis. Woman who have had cervicitis from chlamydia have a high risk for cervical cancer. This bacteria is a sexual transmitted disease, STD, and is usually identified when a woman goes to be tested for chlamydia during a pelvic exam.
As much as we hate to say it, there is a big cause of cervical cancer, one that causes 70% of all cervical cancers in the United States. Cervical cancer can be caused by a Virus called Human Papillomavirus, HPV . Yes, HPV is and STD, and anyone can get it, male or female. It’s hard to know if you have HPV unless something develops or you get tested.
What can develop? Well, HPV does not always cause cancer because there are several types of HPV, 30 typesin fact. Most, like HPV-2, will cause warts. Actually, HPV-6 and HPV-11 cause 90% of all genital warts.
But HPV is still the major cause of cervical cancer because the few and dangerous types, namely HPV-16 and HPV-18, these two viruses alone cause that 70% of all cervical cancer in the United States.
Woman at risk of getting infected by HPV are sexual active or were sexual active. Why? Cervical cancer will not develop immediately; the woman who get HPV from sexual activity are at risk of getting cancer in the future.
“And without proper care, few women recognize it until it has reached advanced stages.” Why? Because cervical cancer does not develop until much later after HPV has been contracted, so it is very hard to know if women even have contracted the HPV itself. Women usually do not know of the cancer until it has caused lots of problems, vaginal bleeding, back pains, and bone fractures. Well how can someone catch the cancer before it causes problems? A regular Papanicolaou test, a PAP smear, will catch cervical cancer in its early stages. Sexually active woman can set up regular appointments with a gynecologist to take PAP smears and pelvic exams to spot any STDs before it’s too late.
There Is A Way To PREVENT Cervical Cancer. There are two Vaccines that are available to prevent the infection of HPV-16 and HPV-18, which will GREATLY reduce the risk of cervical cancer. Cervarix and Gardasil are two different series of shots recommended for women ages 9 to 25 that can reduce the risk of getting cervical cancer. They are recommended for teens mostly, to get the vaccine in before a woman will get sexual active. The vaccine provides no benefit to women who already have HPV because it is not a cure, it is a series of shots that are weakened Proteins of the HPV virus so the body gets used to fighting it.
What is this? You heard from a certain woman in late 2011 saying that these vaccines, specifically Gardasil, caused mental retardation? That is a false statement, incredibly false with no reasoning behind it. There is no evidence that this vaccine causes autism or mental retardation or causes a young little girl to become a sex-driven monster, as much as the fear mongers would love to hype. These vaccines are for the SAFETY of people everywhere. When the claim first arose back in 2011, ”this statement” was release to disprove it. “Since the vaccine has been introduced, more than 35 million doses have been administered, and it has an excellent safety record.” Actually, that number is over 40 million, and there are have been no reports of case like mental retardation and autism as a result of taking the series of shots. The side effects of the vaccine are just like any vaccine, redness at the site of the shot, fatigue, soreness; other side effects may arise such as fainting, that is why after taking an vaccine, the doctors recommend close watch for 15 minutes after the shot.. The side effect of not getting vaccinated or having a girl vaccinated before she gets active? “In the U.S., about 6 million people, including teens, become infected with HPV each year, and 4,000 women die from cervical cancer.”
Protect a woman before she gets active, you can save a life.
In summary:
ღ Cervical cancer is mostly caused by STDs and mainly HPV-16 and HPV-18
ღ There are Vaccines available to prevent the infection of HPV and its consequences.
ღ Anyone can contact their regular/family doctor to point them to a Gynecologist to set up regular appointments.
ღ A gynecologist can set up any woman in need with a light dosage of a good birth control pills if needed, PAP smears, Pelvic Exams, Gardasil or Cervarix.
ღ Men may also be candidates to receive Gardasil to prevent HPV infections that can cause them genital cancers as well. Men who desire to receive the shots can contact their regular doctor who can point them in the right direction.
Some points everyone should consider for their wellbeing.
ღ Get regular appointments with physicians and or gynecologists ALWAYS before, during, or after you are sexually active.
ღ Be honest about any sexual activity to your doctors. They will never repeat anything you say because they are under oath. You want to let them know so they can do the best job they can do to care for you.
ღ All women should get PAP smears and pelvic exams regularly (as recommend by their gynecologist) to catch any STDs and cancer in early stages.
ღ If detected Early, cervical cancer can be treated without hindering fertility or causing much stress.
ღ If detected Late, the uterus (and more) may have to be removed and result in being sterile.
There is so much more about cervical cancer… Staging… Treatments…Symptoms... But some of the most important information for everyone to know is how they can save themselves from cervical cancer. Only 40% of women in the U.S. know about HPV and only about 20% know that there is a connection between HPV and Cervical Cancer.
The biggest part of the movement is to spread awareness. That is what we should do. So here it is. Man or Woman, know about this, tell it to friends, tell it to mates. Save a family member, save a loved one. If parents know about this, they can help their children get Vaccines, and if teachers know about this, they can bring it up to their school and help the students protect themselves. And even if it’s one student, all they need to do is tell people.

Here in the team thread, we have a few other rules just to keep the team together, you must follow these as well. If any team member fails to follow TDM rules or our own team rules, the team Captains have a right to bar said member from any events or contests.

ღSpirit for Strengthღ
Last year, we were the most spirited team, but that does not happen if only the Captains are spirited. We focus on the team members being the most spirited! Every week the Captains select who they think has been the most active, the most supportive, and in general the most spirited. If someone has been spreading cancer awareness, participating in events, and being caring and kind to everyone, they are those Spirited for Strength team members and we will post them on the front page. By the last pick, there will be 4 spirited team members, but only one will be the most spirited and it will be time for the team to pick who has done the best at representing team cervical!
Days
The spirited are picked Every Friday, 6, 13, 20, and 27! Starting the 27th and through the 29th, the team will vote on who is the most spirited
Prizes 
The four spirited members will receive avatar art from Faebella!
The most spirited will receive a clay figure made by Kichigo Suri, any design or animal or figure of their choosing. If desired, it could even be made into a necklace, so the possibilities are endless. For example of clay figures, see right images!
ღMini Easter Eventღ
During the Mini Easter Event, from Friday the 6th to Sunday the 8th, there will be an Easter egg hunt and a bunny avatar contest.

Search in Kichigo Suri's posts during this event for miscolored letters or hidden worlds like*Boing!* and reply with a fun response like "I recommend a bed without springs! ^.^" and anyone with a fun response will be awarded with a tiny prize!

Dress as a bunny with a little theme to your avatar! Are you the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland? Or are you the zodiac rabbit? Have fun with it!

Post a recipe you love to pieces that you wish to share. Make a mean fudge brownie or blondies are that are just the perfect amount of melty goodness and chewiness? How about yummy no bake cookies? Post them and I'll post them in the team post so everyone can see all the delicious things this Cafe Teal can make! It's not a contest, but it will certainly be fun!

Ever had a thought about something that could be really delicious? Well let's put that together with our team colors! Enter your own little idea with what ingredients it would include and in the end we will select the most creative and yummy sounding!

Take creativity to a new level, make a cervical cancer ribbon out of a collection of figurines, out of magazine clips, bottles, candy, food, makeup. Show your pride and your creativity!
How to enter
Make a cervical ribbon out of everything other than real ribbon. My picture (click the preview on the right!) here is made of two fabrics, but it could never be creative enough! And you don't need any decoration around it!
Take a picture of your "ribbon" with your username nearby. (note my white board has my username on it!)

Kichigo Suri Green Tea CookiesA cookie infused with the flavor of delicious green tea! Yield: Approximately 4 dozen cookies Ingredients • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder • 1 cup butter, softened • 1 1/2 cups white sugar • 1 egg • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2 1/2 teaspoon matcha green tea powder (Matcha can be purchased at oriental markets!) Directions 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, matcha green tea powder, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside. 2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll dough into balls about one inch in diameter and flatten slightly to create round discs, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. 3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
