A few days ago I was going through our courtyard, happened to look into our fountain and saw these little black seeds suspended in the fountain. I thought it was weird but I soon forgot. Later on my boyfriend said "Did you see the frog eggs in the fountain?" and I realized that's what the black things were, lol. Yesterday the tadpoles all hatched and now there's gotta be a few hundred in there. There are also some tadpoles that are significantly larger in my pond, I don't know if they're older 'poles of the same species or a different type, but I have pics of those too.

I have some pictures so maybe you guys could help me identify them and together we can figure out a strategy on how best to help them so as many survive as possible. Anything that eats mosquitoes is a friend of mine (plus they're so cute). There's not a lot in the fountain that they can eat and they're too small to really start eating any bugs that might fall in or that I could catch for them, so I sprinkled a few Hikari Micro Pellets in there and they seem to be eating them. Should I boil water and use it to do small water changes every so often, or would that do more harm than good (I would cool it off before using =P)?

Anyway, on to the pics:

eeww take the cig butt out Dx I find they eat algae pellets smile I used to water change mine, just so you know,I find tat tadpoles who are inside things with enough water grow their legs slower,if your other ones in your pond are like the size of a quarter or larger they might be bull frogs, but I dont know...

Wow, I didn't even see that in there. I'll get it out. The larger ones are smaller than bullfrogs tadpoles but they could just be shrimpy.

yea,I have seen small bullfrog tads, however, usually bullfrogs dont go far from water,so they would have had to get there some how :/ maybe a toad species?

They're supposed to be vegetarians so I'm giving them mustard greens. Seem to love it so far.

They're so cute!!!!!!!!! Makes me wish we had a pond. I know we have lots of frogs and toads here, so it would be awesome to hopefully be able to watch some tadpoles grow! I hope most of them survive! biggrin

Most of the tadpoles are in our fountain, which only has a few gallons of water in it. I'd say if you can keep the mosquitoes out, just put a bucket of water in your yard that frogs can get into when they mate and you'll probably end up with tadpoles :3

They're doing well so far, I think we're gonna get a good amount of frogs.

Keeping the mosquitoes out of it would be the difficult part... I might try that. ^_^

I'm glad they're doing well. :3

I know, that's how I'm keeping everyone from vacuuming them up. "Frogs eat mosquitoes guys!!!"

I don't think I'll name them since I'll probably never see them again after they turn into frogs.

We don't have quite as many anymore, a few have died, but they're also developing at different rates, so a bunch of them grew legs and jumped away. We've had a lot of rain and my pond refilled up, there are now dozens of GIANT tadpoles in the pond. It's pretty exciting to go see them every day and see how they've changed.

nooo, keeping the skeekos out is SSSSSOOOOOOOO easy! check every day for fresh skeeto nests, and simply remove any with your finger, and flick it into the grass, this is what the nests look like (only much smaller, they float on the water) it also helps keep down the skeeter pop, cause they dont fly off and lay them somewhere else!
